View Full Version : Thier secret?
How can a game with such low reqs have such great graphics?
my guess is because you play in an instanced world, so really the world is loaded directly from your computer to myour computer?
i'm probably wrong, anyone else have ideas?

No idea.. Could be that they toy a lot with instances.. I think this might be the case.. However, the minimum graphics could look really crappy.

Low requirements? Was there an official word as to the requirements for the game??
I think the requirements are 800 mhz, geforce 2, 128 RAM.
I've wondered the same thing Echod... I believe you're partly right. Games like UT 2k4 have amazing graphics because they don't have to load nearly as many characters.
However, you may be forgetting that the town in Guild Wars will be the meeting place for every single player. (There aren't 'servers' so EVERYONE meets here.) At least I believe that's how it'll work...
But I believe the main reason is that well... when you set it on low graphics, it's going to look pretty bad. Remember the earliest Guild Wars screenshots and trailer? Well... perhaps it'll look even worse than that.

nice..thx! :)
My guess is that all the screenshots are on high spec machines. So in other words hte graphics engine is extremely scalable.
But i could be wrong.

I agree with Bendover it;s great seeing the changes every time you logon, it's come on leaps and bounds in the past 2 months.
You play it BenDover?
Yup, I've tested it for the past few weeks. So far I'm very positive about it. It's just getting better and better, everytime I log on.
I'm really looking forward to see how it will be received at E3. I've never been in an alpha test before, but I doubt many games have looked this good in their alpha stage. :)

Hmmm, who edited my post above? I never wrote the first paragraph before the quote
Perhaps a fellow mod/admin who hit Edit instead of Reply...

If thats so then i doubt youll be able to do anything In-Town without lagging... theyll probally implement diffrent servers or sumtin... or maby have multiple starting towns. Either way i hope they do sumtin or else you might aswell flush it.
i'm sure they'll have some way to avoid the in-town lag...but for now that's a mystery
and i understand the screenies are from high spec machines, but even so that's pretty good for reqs... (thinks EQ2 reqs... heh)

Also, I could be wrong (dont have much knowledge on it) But will you be able to coustomize the physical looks of your character? If not, that reduces memory usage by alot.

hmm, this is true, maybe they have few starting character options, but you get your uniqueness from the items?
There's only one race, right? So that already saves some memory.. no?
I'm not even going to wonder how they do it! I'm just going to be very happy!!
they use a really advanced server program, forget what its called, but notice how the E3 client was only like 60kb?

Lol, no man that's just the client downloader. When you boot up the game it starts downloading it (main game physics etc), whenever you go to a (new) map it gets downloaded (or updated). But still my game is about 200mb now, so it's still a pretty small (hd) game compared to other games.
game looks great on both minimum AND maximum settings..
i prefer minimum though, because some effects tend to remove alot of the character-detail etc, but it does look alot better on max i can tell you..
and yes, the screenshots are taken with settings at max(right now, if you press print scrn it will change to max settings, grab the screen and switch back to whatever your setting was).
@whoever mentioned the new map: i HATE the new map :D

my theory is...
the graphics you see are actually image documents pasted on the model, so what we are seeing is actually a picture not real graphics.
Did you notice that this thread is more than a year old? xD
