You could just host your own server and run dyndns for a static dyns addy.
I do this off my linux server and it works great. This allows you to have a free TS server and you can control it all, the Bandwidth is not that much just run a lesser codec I've found Speek 12.3Kb to be a far balance of low BW and quality.
Dyndns is a method of allowing you to redirect a dyn address to your ip, helpful if your ip is not static. For example say you used guildw.dyndns.org it would map to your ip always thus saving the hassle of telling everyone your ip everytime you reboot etc.

You know Pisnaz, a lot of people don't know they can host their own Counter-strike (or whatever) game and think they have to buy a dedicated server to play with firnds....

That's obviously the same problem here, Chalupagod thinks he has to buy a TS server to speak with his friends...

I'm beginning to think that marketing propaganda is formatting people's mind sometimes :)

Teamspeak Anti-Piracy Initiative Update - (HIGH Priority)
Posted By:florence on Fri Jul 22, 2005 @ 00:06 CEST

The Teamspeak Team would like to thank you all for your overwhelming response to our anti-piracy initiative. We are pleased to announce that as a result of your ongoing efforts to help us identify illegal Teamspeak hosters we have compiled a list of known illegal Teamspeak hosters that will be posted for public viewing via our Hosters & Renting page. With the release of this list, it is our goal to increase consumer awareness to ultimately eliminate any possibility of Teamspeak piracy, giving our legally licensed customers the business and recognition that they deserve.

This list will obviously be an ongoing work in progress, so we encourage you all to continue notifying us of any witnessed illegal activity via our piracy email address

Please keep in mind that due to the volume of emails received our piracy team generally will not respond to your emails unless additional information is required. With that said, be assured that every email we receive will be properly investigated and that appropriate action will be taken.

In addition to the list, each Authorized Teamspeak Host Provider (ATHP) can now link directly to a unique, static page on the Hosters & Renting area. Simply search for your company name on the Hosters & Renting page, click on your company in the search results, and the web address will reflect your company's unique URL that you can link to from your site to show your customers that your company is in fact an ATHP.

Again, we thank you all for your hard work as your contributions and dedication have helped make this project possible.

Go ahead and illegally host a server... just dont post it all around. :howdy:

I think that it should really be pointed out that most game-voice communication systems such as Ventrilo, Teamspeak, and GameComm, all allow for people to host their own servers with a maximum of usually 8 to 10 people on at the same time. This should serve for most small guild pvp purposes and what not. Out of my personal experience, it is my opinion that Ventrilo has the best voice codec.

However, Ventrilo requires a business license in order to purchase a license for hosting more than 8 people at any given time (unless I'm mistaken). Because of that, I went with TeamSpeak since TeamSpeak also has an option where it allows for non-profit organizations to host up to 100 people at the same time on their TS server.

Now, to answer the request of the original thread poster, Chalupagod: if you are still looking for a TS channel for your guild (I'm assuming it's your guild), then send me a PM and I'll see if I can set something up for you since I run a dedicated TS server myself.

I host teamspeak for our little clan, i made sure to double check i wasn't breaking any agreements before hand.

# Non-Profit Organizations

If you host a Teamspeak server strictly for non-profit AND you are not a commercial entity then you will not be subject to licensing fees. Each physical server that qualifies as a non-profit organization cannot exceed 100 slots for all instances of Teamspeak running on that server. If more than 100 slots is detected by our automated tracking system, your server may be subject to review (or suspended) and you may be held liable for ATHP-based or Single Server Use-based licensing fees.

EXAMPLES OF NON-PROFIT ENTITIES:
# An individual hosting a small Teamspeak server for their online gaming clan using their home Cable/DSL connection for non-profit.
# An individual that rents a dedicated server from a hosting company but does NOT ask for fees from clan members AND does NOT rent or share space to others for profit.
# A church or other non-profit organization hosting a free Teamspeak server for online bible study discussions.
# A school hosting a free Teamspeak server that allows students to receive help with homework for their classes online.

Ditto to the question above (although I'm sure I can probably figure it out), but also, what are the security implications, as people would technically be accessing your PC, wouldn't they? Also, I assume I'd need to leave my computer on all the time for others to use Teamspeak?

Thanks in advance for any replies!

I am new here, but have seen so many people being given misinformation about TS on other games, I just had to add my two cents...
I have operated a TS server for over a year now, and it costs nothing, and I have the capability of unlimited members.
If someone asks you to pay for TS through their gaming server, run as far and fastly as you can in the other direction.
Visit goteamspeak.com and get the server and client downloads free.

As far as Teamspeak security goes I would set it up on a linux based server (such as ubuntu) and close off ALL ports on the system that are not used by team speak and then if you have a good inet conneciton such as cable or dsl. Go into your router configuration and set the IP address of the linux box to demilitarized that way your router will not interfear with it and you should be good to go. I recomend linux cuz many distros are free, its more stable, heck of alot more secure and best of all it will not require half the PC power to run so you can get a good ole 486 if you want and it still will run teampeak. Up your system to a 350Mhz AMD or so and you can use it as a websever also..
IMHO,
Joey

As for TS I can't really help you, but if you'd like your own guild channels or just a place to make pvp/pve groups then you could use the gw-vent server - it's a 400 person server I think? Maybe 500 it's for the community so anyone can use it. (Ventrilo) Just PM me if you want the info, I'm an admin so I could set you up a guild channel.

Wait you're an admin on gw-vent? Guess you got lucky when fighter was finding admins. Well, I can vouch that gw-vent is good, but it doesn't have the best latency and doesn't support tts binds.

I do host a TS Server on Rackshack.

ts.endersworld.com:8777

I have a couple of public channels that you are welcome to use, however I caution you that I have some strict rules in place.
Public channels are normally restricted to 8 players, immature behavior, racial or sexist behavior will buy an instant ban if I hear of it. You want to hang out and talk, no problem, however pickup groups and people who want to GvG take precedence in the GWplayers channel (HoH groups have another channel)
If you see Ender's Shadow in channel it means I'm wandering thru with my backup computer (Which has no mic) so don't expect a response.
If you show a reasonable amount of maturity, and would like a private channel, you may request one from me while I'm on or in game (A Wiggin)
Spamming me in game will result in no response, or if I get too many requests I will have to limit the number of private channels until such time as a slot opens.

email is tsserver@endersworld.com

Well if you have a BB connection you can host a TS server at you home if your isp allows it.
If you don't know how to set up a server i assume you are using windows so this is for windows users.

1. Find out your Internet IP address. This isn't a 192.168.x.x or 172.16.x.x number and write down save for later.
http://www.showmyip.com/

Skip to step 3 if you don't have a additional router and are directly connected to your modem
2. If you have a router configure it to do a port forward to you computers ip address which is something like 192.168.x.x
Easiest way to find out your ip address is
start->run->type "cmd" in text box->
This will bring up a command prompt
Type "ipconfig"
It will respond with some numbers look for IP 192.168.x.x

3. Download and install the server software from goteamspeak.org
Read the documentation
4. Since you have a broadband connection it is likely you have a dynamic ip address. To counter this you can use services like http://www.no-ip.com/ or http://www.zoneedit.com/. Install their software and follow their instructions.
They will give you an easy to remember name for your ever changing ip address from step 1
This will get you in the general direction to set up your own ts or whatever server. Remember to read the documentation.
abty use at own risk
Feel free to add own steps.
Faqs
If you have a firewall ex sp2 zonealarm etc you are going to have to configure it yourself
Your ISP ex time warner Cox cable may not allow it, check with them
This is as said earlier very general only meant to get you in the right direction

YOU DID WHAT? Please recognize you did no such thing, that was ALL me and Standard. Don't take credit for my work and all the time that I put into that community. You didn't even get admin until just recently because I removed mine since I'm shipping off into the Army in a week.

Created the forums? Ha, you don't even have mod status, let alone Admin.

But don't think for a second that I won't have your admin removed if I catch you pullin' this **** again. Just because I dropped the Admin from the front of my name doesn't mean I don't have that power anymore.

- Admin Faith

P.S. Regarding the loss of support of TTS binds, we removed those when we moved the server this past time, from the older sB server. We were having serious problems with bind spamming when you figure 400 people into the mix. So that's just a decision we had to make for the sake of the admin's sanity.

Are you retarded or what..? The original gw-vent forums I made, yes I was Admin of those forums and on the vent. I think what you did here, was thread necromancy.. 3 month old thread, you popped in and assumed that the new forums were the only forums - which is not the case. That and, eh.. I don't even have to say anything you're just a noob. -.-" I doubt you even read these forums anymore.

Oh, and if anyone's wondering why the hell I'm posting here now.. I googled gw-vent trying to find something and I found this. >.>"
