I just downloaded GW Freak's character calculator in the download section and want to know if its a keylogger. It asks for your email and password at the title page. Its doesnt make sense why it need that info. I clicked skip and it downloaded something. I had Gw on and im very worried that there might be a chance that I got my account stollen. If any of you guys has had experience with these please reply. Any help will be appreciated. :)

it is not a keylogger, thousands of people use this builder. the login is for update usage. that's all, if u are still worried about it, you can also download the light version of it, without the login, but u will not have a map then.

There's no problems with that program - if you want to get rid of the update just open the ConfigUpdater.xml in notepad and change

<CheckForUpdate>Always</CheckForUpdate>

to

<CheckForUpdate>Never</CheckForUpdate>

Actually the new version is "almost" ready [will be released next week-end]... there is no more password at all to remove confusion.

Just to make give you an idea of the new look :)

Looks quite interesting, but I think I'll wait for this next update to start using it. A healthy does of paranoia never hurt anyone.

The ensuing wire traps and automatic gun emplacements - not to mention the hired assassins - do tend to hurt several people. But, well, you can't make an omelette without spending thousands of dollars on murdering your suspected enemies. ;>

You can always just cancel the update request without entering anything, and happily go about your building.

I have that program, it flashes the log in for a bit but doesnt give you time to enter any info (not that I tried) before its gone. That pretty much told me it wasn't after my info...well that and I checked the forums here :p

The guy that hates zips first of all don't tell us tell gwfreaks. But I say use zips your foolish if you download an EXE directly from the internet for three reasons one if you choose Open file after download by mistake, 2 Was a virus or hack, 3 the EXE is considered a virus by most networks and Email servers you couldn't get it.

Also that prompt at the begaining was older version that doesn't do that anymore. You can and should use a firewall on all applications and windows kernels/dlls to stop issues like sending info across without a firewall prompt. Also shows when DLL changes prompting you if it changes something. Next you should scan for keyloggers using ad-aware from lavasoft or something. Lastly this isn't a keylogger from what I can tell I see no evil intent on Gwfreaks and see almost all XML in the code which basically is makes it easier to edit of course without source code its hard to know what VBasic is doing, however I used my firewall which can detect Network connections and changes it found no issue in that gwfreaks opening so I know it doesn't go on internet unless you push update so I just never push update.

Zapper, whilst your response is no doubt appreciated, take a little looky at the original thread post date...

And I can state that GWFreaks is clean, for the record. I use it, its clean.
