The Reno Brothers have updated their utility The Edge to v1.6.1. Changes include updated data and the ability to flag skills as acquired or "of interest". Grab The Edge v1.6.1 here (http://www.gwonline.net/files/files.php?&id=19). If you have questions, comments or feedback on The Edge, please post here.

I've been using the latest version for over a month (beta) and I really like the way you can check off skills you've acquired and also flag skills that you are interested in. This lets me sort by "missing skills" and I can see what I still need to unlock. I use the "flagged skills" feature to prioritize which skills I most want to unlock.

BTW, I see what you mean by the file problem. The file size is only 160kb and it should be more like 7gb so I'm not surprised it isn't working properly. I'll drop the chief programmer a note and let him know. It may also have been a problem with the initial upload to the GWO server. It'll get fixed, I'm sure, so check back here again soon for an update!

Maybe it's just a timing issue between the announcement and when the file was actually posted. I just downloaded and ran it successfully from the web site without a problem. The file size was 8 meg.

Can you try it again?

Also, I've heard of reports of at least one free anti-virus program incorrectly flagging The Edge as having a virus. I've scanned it with Norton and it is clean.

I've been experimenting with downloading files from GWO and I've noticed that every once and awhile, they time out or stop. I'm guessing the server might be overly busy for that moment. In any case, this version of The Edge is 7,889kb when I download it from the GWO server. I think if you make sure you get the whole file on the download, the problem first mentioned above will go away.

This time I saved it to my hardrive before i ran the exec and heres what i got:
NSIS Error:
The installer you are trying to use is corrupted or incomplete.
This could be the result of a dmaged disk, a failed download, or a virus. You may want to contact the author of this installer to obtain a new copy.

Eh, oh well it may just be some messed up file in the internals of xp2 :muddle: .

I'd guess it's your XP installation. Works fine on my PC and on the ones my friends use too. Good luck.

I've been reading up on this error, and it looks like a common problem with all sorts of installers. For example, do a search in google for this:

nsis "The installer you are trying to use is corrupted or incomplete"

However, I don't see many good solutions. Here are the suggestions I've found. You can try any or all of these:
- Download the file to a different file name and run the installer

- Make sure you aren't running out of hard disk space. You should probably have at least 100 meg free before running the installer. The Edge doesn't take anything close to that amount of space, but the OS needs extra hard drive space for creating temporary files, etc.

- Clear your browser's cache. In IE, that means deleting the temporary files

- If you have a download excellerator, disable it before downloading the installer

- Run the installer from a DOS prompt. Navigate to the directory where you downloaded the Edge Installer and type

theedge_v161 /NCRC

you may get an error at the end of the installation, but it should install ok

- Make sure your machine is clean of adware and spyware. These often can interfer with downloads

- Try using a different browser to download the installer. For example, try Firefox

If any of these solutions work for you, please let us know. It would be a big help to other users facing the same issue. If I was to make a guess, I'll bet you don't have enough disk space.

well not sure what the problem was, but i simply re-downloaded it several times, over and over and over (and you get the point) and finally the last time i tried the download seemed to take longer and, with it came a fully functional The Edge :happy65: .

BTW, Great Program.
