Tonight, for the first time, I used Ventrillo. I was forced to sit in stunned silence as I realized that it seems the purpose of Ventrillo is so people can vocalize the very same trite garbage that they'd otherwise type. In essence, all the petty arguments and repeatedly saying "noob" isn't just chat spam, it's what people actual think.
The whole of every conversation went something like this....
"Look at that guy over there, he's such a noob..."
"Yeah, look at him using that noob spell..." <casts the same spell>
"Dude, he's attacking me with empathy on him, what a noob" <continues to attack the person he's calling a noob while HE has empathy on him too>
Repeat ad nauseum
To say the least, the conversations I believed people would have with Ventrillo, the strategic organization, was apparently all fantasy.

To the contrary, you get someone like Tarrant, Chantal or I on TS/Vent for a GvG match or something, and, we may joke around a bit, but our conversations are nothing like that. It all has to do with the mindset of the people on TS/Vent, as well as the people themselves.
TS/Vent give you a huge advantage in terms of being able to say something instead of having to type out the same thing. Im sure you can agree that it would be easier to say "Fall back to the guild lord" than it would be to type it in the heat of battle. I dont find it all that useful for PvE, but it is fun to log on and talk with friends while doing missions. PvP is where TS/Vent really shine if people know how to use them correctly.

My group uses Ventrilo and our conversations are nothing like that. We understand that everyone is a "noob" once. We are here for the fun of the game and if you catch us belittleing someone is one of our own group and in fun. Hey, everyone screws up sometime or another. I would much rather use Ventrilo than trying to type everything.

In what context was this......... (I.E. PUG tombs group??)
If you've ever done serious PvPing, you'd realize TS/Vent is very essential.

It has little to do with the medium (TS, Vent, in-game chat) and more to do with the people you are talking to.

Its not fanasty but its still the 60%-40% good PUG /bad PUG rule. It doesnt change with voice communications.
Often I use my own vent server and don't allow someone to endlessy run their mouth or degrade others.
But ,yes the same rude morons spamming nonsense or greifing parties, do the same thing on vent. I've heard some horrible things on vent. Then there was more than one moron who played music into vent.
Just take it with a grain of salt, and utilize it to your best interest. As you see your productivity in game go up you will just see it as an occupational hazard. As you build your friends list you will actually begin to look forward to talking to your ingame friends on vent. And you will wonder how you ever played without it.
