i realy want to make a forum for my guild, (which is free)
but i dont know any places where to get one :(

i would like to be able to name the differnt palces (pvp, events, questions etc.)
and it could also be cool if i could put pictures on the page and banenrs which represents us.

i have noticed that many guilds uses Vbulletine (or Vbullet),
where can i get that?

http://www.vbulletin.com/ - You do have to pay for it sorry
I personally use proboards (http://www.proboards.com/index.html) or forumer(http://www.forumer.com/) because they are free and easy to use. hope this helps

vBulletin is not free. If you get the code and host forums without a paid license then Jellsoft will sue you. I know people who this has hapenned to.

Some free alternatives (if you already have hosting w/ PHP support) are: PHPBB2, PunBB, Phorum

Some free hosted alternatives: InvisionFree (it has ads though)

There is also http://www.simplemachines.org (Simple Machines Forum), which is just like vbulletin and phpbb, only it has some of those extra bells and whistles for free (like games and such).

I like and use http://www.invisionplus.net/ because of the free subdomain you get. Almost the same as invisionfree.com though.

If you can't finda forums which really isn't nessary for a guild unless you want other guilds to visist you.I would recommend Msn or Yahoo groups it is just as good as a forum to keep in touch with guild members. It is what we use for private talks between one another.

Thank you so much flexiboy. You are a lifesaver. I was able to set up a forum for my guild since we are working on website. We grow daily and it is hard to keep up with all of the members. Again I thank you. Yeah.

I recommend forumer.com ('http://www.forumer.com').

Here's why:

I have used many free forum hosts in the past, including all the mainstream ones and some of the less well known. However, one stuck out by far - Forumer.com ('http://www.forumer.com') - I have now been using them for about 2 years! :)

Many of the other hosts were always going down, and there support was appauling... However, forumer is different they have 16 + servers and they are all up 99% of the time, at least that is what I have found... Their support is also awesome, expect a reply within 1 hour! and they certainly know what they are talking about.

Damn, I realised i have not told you what they host - they host phpBB2 and IPB forums...

Also forumer have unlimited bandwidth and space!

Even more, as an added bonus, they have fmods a modifications/skining center ('http://www.fmods.com') for IPB, they have hundreds of resources and are really cool! :)

I highly recommend forumer, have a good day! :)

o_0 ... I tried this and I found it great! I think this is one of the best free hosting companies that I've ever seen in my life! But he's wrong about the Support Forums replying in one hour. They replied in a maximum of 10 minutes!!! Time went by quickly when I was playing with their Arcade while I was waiting for a response for my question(s).
Thanks for the reply Apple Man! Without you, I wouldn't have seen this awesome free hosting company! Cheers!

You may also want to look into http://www.guildportal.com. Very customizable and includes a forum.

It's free if you host your images somewhere else... or you can pay if you want storage space on the site.

I would reccomend AGAINST using Guild Portal. That was the original place I used, and a week after all our members had joined, all the ones who used the same e-mail address as their GW account, and also used the same password ended up getting their GW accounts hacked. I'm talking 6 or 7 out of our 20 members at the time.

Then I found invisionplus.net and we camped out there for a while. Pretty sweet forum setup. Great admin panel. Good community out there with plenty of addons and tweaks posted on their forum.

Then I caved and paid for some hosting. For $2.99 a month we get 5Gig of space, 250Gb of monthly transfer, a free domain (yourname.com/.net/.org/etc..), 500 e-mail addresses @yourname.com/.net/.org/etc..., 25 sub-domains, full PHP support, 10x100Mb MySQL databases, and plenty other tasty features. That is all through 1and1.com. If you ever feel like diving in and trying to make a whole site, go with them. They have a 90-day full moneyback guaruntee. If you feel overwhelmed by it, or just don't have the patience to run a site then you can get all your cash back and forget it ever happened.

The best part is you can totally just do a whole webpage with an image gallery (I reccommend the free, php based, Gallery2), webmail (squirrellmail rocks), forums (phpBB is the way to go), downloads, news, etc..

Feel free to take a peek at our PhPBB2 powered forums at http://sumthingstoopid.com/phpbb2/index.php

Free is nice, but $3 a month is practically nothing and it allows all your guildmates to have a unique e-mail address, which is pretty sweet. If only they allowed you to run a Voice Com server they would be the best in the universe.

That's interesting to note. I've been involved in a WOW guild that uses it and a GW guild and never any issue. HOWEVER, I don't use the same user/email and password on websites that I setup in MMO's EVER  *paranoia*

I've just started playing around with a free forum for our guild. The one I practiced on has all the features I could want, except I can't find a list of registered users, and it has ads across the top. There are some great suggestions here, but I am starting to confuse myself on what is best (and my apologies if I'm trying to get a little too technical with not enough knowledge). My forum, and I noticed the forumer.com, are both phpBB. PhPBB2 was also mentioned. Is this a direct sequel or just something different? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each? Any other suggestions on the topic? :undecided:

Thanks!

Ok, I wish I could edit my last post... in any case, is it true that PhPBB2 is the non-free version of PhPBB? The highly-recommended forumer site offers both phpbb and IPB, which was also recommended here. Are there any objective differences between those two, or is it basically a matter of which looks nicer to me?

Thanks!

I have tried many free boards such as this but Forumotion.com is by far the best one yet, I am happy and confident to say i have stopped my search for free message boards as this has been the best service by far.
My members have been great and have followed my every move to different boards, and they to are very happy.

You could use xFire - a bit limited in what you can do but it is free.

I've tried that one out, but it didn't compete at all with Forumotion in my opinion, both are free btw

If anyone has any questions feel free to ask :)
I have extensive experience with it, give me a PM when you need help.
I've ran over 3 forums over 2 years, plus being a co admin at another.
