View Full Version : Not that good for PvE?

From what I saw in the brief time I played tonight, it seems there are two things the ritualist does.

1. It heals, albeit in a very unconventional fashion. Not quite a monk.
2. It puts up stationary spirits, many of which seem to revolve around harming enemies that get too close.

This sounds great for PvP, because it means playing that king of the hill-esque mode will be made much easier by the defensive pylons of the ritualist. But these sound almost worthless for PvE play, unless you want to charge into the fray, throw up a spirit, and get back out before being mauled to death.

I may be jumping the gun here, though--what do you guys think?

Offensive:

Rt/Mo smiter

They would carry the binding rituals of 'Pain', 'Blood Song' and 'Shadowsong', supplementing with some nasty smites ('Balth's', 'SoW' and even the elite 'SoJ'), not to mention 'Wunderlust' and 'Earthbind' type smiters.

Wa/Rt Using the various 'weapon spells' available. 'Brutal Weapon', 'Guided Weapon', 'Vengeful Weapon', 'Weapon of Warding', etc.

The Rt/Mes Spirit Killer - see what build you'd come up with. ;)

Defensive:

A primary Rt in PvM is a fantastic party-wide healer/buffer, even without Monk as secondary.

Concentrating on the Communing/Restoration attr. lines, the binding rituals of 'Restoration', 'Shelter' and 'Union' (which all have quite a nice covering radius), serve to provide some pretty impressive healing and damage reduction, where 'Spirit Light', 'Mend Body & Soul' and 'FoMF' ('Flesh of My Flesh') serve for self/party healing boosts and resurrects.

There is sooo, so much more I coud list but would probably get my wrist slapped for spoiling it. :p

Suffice to say though with the Rt, there is versatility and scope there; you just gotta go out and find it (or rather, unlock it ).

I loved the Rit BEFORE it came out, and I love it even MORE now!

Now people in Thirsty River type missions wont have to wait for a goddamn monk to come along... I'm POSITIVE they go to thirsty river and go afk just to piss the rest of us off.

hmmm ritualists will be pretty decent in pvp
i imagine killing glint with ritualists would be pretty easy
thanks to 2 spirits that keep people on the floor whenever they aren't moving ;)

also
spirit deaths still count towards soul reaping *big cheesy grin*
so N/rt can be pretty fun aswell ;)

only downside on ritualist is ... it takes so long for the spirits to recharge (is fine in pvp but in pve....)
in pve people will just keep hearing
"don't attack yet all my spirits are still recharging"

Are you going to be able to play the old game with the new profs? Somehow I doubt that, seeing the new PVE creation screens.

Also you can probably count on it that in the PVE part of the expansion you will find more uses for the spirits and monsters AI will work their way around them.

Not 100% on ALL the facts on that one, I'll keep you updated tho.

It's way way way too early to say how Rts would fare in PvE. Anet has surely thought of the same objections the OP has raised. Let us see what they came up with before revving up our whinebagos.

Well my concern is the opposite... aren't Rt and A too powerful and without proper counter for the first game PvE part?

THK with spirits all around the king would be different... and more likely than not even easier!

Damnit /fistshake

Been putting a similar build of mine through its paces, the trick is to have a teammate heal you (not a primary monk, e-mo seemed to kept me alive) this way people seem to target the rt/mo first, they come near me and my spirits, they are blinded *shadowsong*, take damage from the spirits and completely wiped out from balths/sow. Gonna try judges insight on pain, see how that works out.

I think that ritualists will be more popular than monks. As Rts are cooler than Mos more people will use them as primary and that will make a diference when forming pugs. People would rather take a couple of comun Rts than wait ages for a single monk to acept joining their partys.

We are looking to the healer of the future my friends.

They have an elite that could make them not so slow in PvE.

Soul Twisting 5/1/10. Destroy a spirit. The next Binding Ritual you perform casts 66% faster and recharges instantly. This means once you're done on one spot, just destroy your spirit and make a new one.

And not all they have is spirit-based. Weapon Spells are really something. They have some nice healing, etc.

A R/Rt with Oath Shot could likely do good too hehe. Plant all spirits needed for the fight, then Oath Shot a mob in the end and you're ready for the next!

Also the cloth is more exotic than female monks

I was thinking just the opposite. At first I was surprised I got any spirits off in the first place, but that is probably because with all the people trying new chars out people forgot to bring interrupts. I was imagining a Ritualist as a great protector of casters PvE. Bring out the spirits around the area the casters are in, and you can replace a Bodyguard Warrior with a Ritualist.

I thought he lacked a bit in PvP, but I didn’t play the healer version. I can’t wait to bring him out in PvE
