What exactly does a ritualist do??

Yeah, so I wasn't there for the Factions event or whatever it was. I have no idea what a ritualist can do, be it skills, attacks or anything. Can some please explain, because I don't have time to read through every individual thread....

Ritualist can be both offensive or defensive. It can summon spirits, hold ashes and use weapon spells. The offensive aspect is, it can summon spirit or drop ashes that does dmg. The defensive aspect is, it can summon spirit or hold ashes or use weapon spells to heal or buff players up!

at least a couple of their skills are enhanced if they meet conditions related to spirits/Weapon spells/carrying items.

Ash-pots spells summon items, but things like flags in PvP also meet the "carrying item" requirement.

Ritualist spirits are more active than Ranger spirits. Instead of a globally applied effect, their provide benefits to allies or penalties to opponents though general area effect (e.g. allies get health regen), actual attacks (e.g. interrupt attacks), used abilities (like casting heals every few seconds).

only 1 Weapon Spells can affect a single person at a time, but they can provide both protective (e.g. dodge %, regen) and offensive (e.g. health stealing, interrupt) effects.

The ritualist is a bizarre combo of Ranger/Necro/Mesmer/Monk, and in someways Ele too.
