View Full Version : Gaile Log [April 11 06]
Here are the logs from Gaile's visit to Lion's Arch today. I jumped in for Mal after he had some err7 issues. I don't have the very beginning and I think I missed 4 lines near the end. I'm a rookie at this still. but here they are!

LOL, yeah I've noticed that too.
By now I think Gaile has something in her head which sees that question and automatically puts the answer out there with her having to think about it.

PvE rewards = horrible horrible feeling this is the beginning of PvE Elitism
Storage improvements = sounds more and more like its going to be increased stack numbers rather than extra inventory slots.
No clarification on the whole names that happen to be the same as someone elses on some forum.
Hint that the 'new frog' will be a cat in Cantha, I wonder if it'll be the same person at different times or different people at the same time or something? Oh I can't wait for all the pussy jokes from the w/mo's lol  /sarcasm
What was the question she said we'd not like the answer to? Thats something all these logs miss.. the questions to the answers

I agree with Ash (yet again lol. Always seem to be doing it).
No further word on the player name similarity thing which just ranks. You can't say something one day which raises more questions than provides answers that could spoil a persons game completely and then drop it.
Also it irritates me too that we do not know any of the questions. However I fully appreciate the work you guys do to bring these logs to us so its not a complaint as that would be unfair. It would just be nice to know why Gaile says something like "wow fantastic idea we will impliment that next week" kind of thing.
I've done a Gaile log before, and it's *impossible* to log the questions as well as the answers unless you guys give us a few hours to compile things. There is so much going on in local in between the questions that do get answered. For every question answered there's about 30 or more unanswered, someone being a troll. Someone egging on the troll, a few people just being... odd and people just randomly asking for shoutouts or asking things that have been asked before.
For an hour long log I take about 40 or so screenshots. And that's just with the answers. I'd probably fill up my whole screenshot folder if I had to screenshot all of local as well.
Another idea is if we all ask Gaile nicely if she would say "in regards to FOO... yadda yadda answer" when it's not clear. :)

Maybe she got in trouble by they who must be obeyed for having said anything in the first place, and now she's having to keep quiet in the hopes it'll be forgotton. I get the impression everything Anet say and do is well planned out beforehand.. And her outbust didn't seem like it was.

Well I for one wouldn't mind waiting longer. As far as I'm concerned its not a race to see who can get it up the quickest. And if you guys want to take longer with putting one up with questions then I wouldn't mind that in the slightest. I know what LA can get like and I know how difficult it is to read well... anything in LA local chat lol.
Course they could update the chat system to allow the recording of logs from any or all chat tabs to a regular text file. That would make things easier for you guys logging the convo and then being able to format it into an easy to read way for posting. No strain on your HDD from the millions of screenshots I bet you all end up with already from logging it :)

I'd be surprised if you could do it at all. At all the Gaile chats i've been to, the scroll moves way too fast if you keep local on. There's a lot of spamming of the same silly questions (how do you get here, will you marry me, etc), requests for her to say something in various languages, insults, and childish demands for attention. Mixed in with all of that, you have that actual game related questions.
Half the time, i'll go back and check local to see what she's responsing to, and can't find it anyway.

Ive been thinking on possible ways to get the questions, one of which is 2 people logging, one local one the answers. I havnt had the energy to try and complie a local yet while Mal is logging. Maybe soon

it would be harder because you would have to pick out the questions in the local related to the answer from gaile.

It is possible but only if you have an empty screenshot folder and can press the print screen key every half second. Usually though Gaile answers with a reference to the original question when it's either a good question or raises an intresting point.
And to be perfectly honest as much as I enjoy doing these logs I don't enjoy them enough to spend a good few hours sorting the questions from the spam, linking them with the answers then compiling it into a log.

The beginning?!?!
You've never played a PvE mesmer have you? You know, the class that sucks too much to get in groups?
And what about "n00bs" without 15k/FoW armors or the best green items out there? Or that whammo spamming "I'm weilding a Crystalline Sword of Wootness!" in team chat?
PvE elitism is already alive and thriving, I'm sorry if I'm the first to break it to ya.

No kidding. I was surprised she even saw my (stupidly-worded) question about simple features.
"How difficult is it to implement simple changes like the often-requested "walk" feature and such."
She responded with the proper questions. :) Pointing out that it's a matter of priority and importance....
What I should have asked is something like "Do you know what the top 5 priorities dev has planned for future updates other than Factions and the skill balance?" (Hindsight is 20/20).
I guess it's like a sort of definite feedback about the suggestion forums here. If Gaile says, "First, they're planning/working on PvE rewards. Second, they want to get Guild Storage functional" etc., then I guess it's like okay so we can expect to see PvE rewards before Guild Storage or something to that effect. Those priorities may change of course according to needs/requests, but I guess it would be nice to have kind of an outlook on what they have for future updates. It's not like we would be holding them to it.
But hey, that's one little person's thought. :) Others may not like such a procedural request.
P.S. I think Gaile needs podium/staircase or something so that she isn't
covered in three or more deer emotes at any given time...

I asked a few questions, and I think I got answers:
Q: Will any decisions be affected if Last Pride continually win the PvP competitions?
A: "Some time ago everyone though War Machine would "win everything", now it's Last Pride. Next season it may be Fred's Silly Bunny Guild, who knows?"
Q: Will there be Prophecies-related quests in Factions (similar to the current ones that have appeared round Lion's arch recently. "crush the luxons" etc)?
A: "I think that Cantha is Cantha and Tyria is Tyria, and I don't expect to see many crossworld stories. But you've already seen how the story can span two continents."
Q: Are there any plans to update the prophecies collector staffs to the new base skin (e.g. the new water staff instead of the generic dead staff)?
A: "If some items need reskinning, and you're not sure if we know it, I'd suggest a forum post is a good thing."
I had one unaswered question about whether Prophecies collector wands would be upgraded to match the double bonus greens/Factions collector wands, but I think we ran out of time.

Six ascended and fully completed characters, one of each class, all with 15k armors, all but a few elites left to unlock (never used faction to unlock anything).
So yeah I have played as a mesmer  And the way people treat them is simply from lack of understanding, not elitism.
Go into PvP and well, try do anything without rank 6+. Watch how your treated like dirt and run out of the district being made to think "hey, why the hell should I play this game anymore"
Then go back to PvE, and imagine what its going to be like if the rewards aren't perfectly thought out before hand eg: absolutely NOTHING like PvP. Yup, enough to make anyone want to stick with henchies over other people.

Yeah PvE rewards have always been something I'd like to see implemented, but if it comes at the cost of something similar to rank elitism, I'd rather it wasn't.
Still lets hope Anet have thought this one out and it'll just be something cool to have without being something that "defines" your character to other players.

Where is the difference? Itīs both because of stupidity, no? Both think you "need" to be/have this or that, just because.

If someone doesn't take a mesmer because they think the class sucks, it's elitism regardless of *why* they think the class sucks. I could make the same argument that people that are elitist about rank just don't understand that rank isn't necessarily an indicator of skill.
Go into PvP and well, try do anything without rank 6+. Watch how your treated like dirt and run out of the district being made to think "hey, why the hell should I play this game anymore"
Been there, done that. Met some jerks, made some friends, same as my first time through the PvE game. It was no different... after I acquired a friends list of PvPers I stopped pugging.
Then go back to PvE, and imagine what its going to be like if the rewards aren't perfectly thought out before hand eg: absolutely NOTHING like PvP. Yup, enough to make anyone want to stick with henchies over other people.
In PvE I stopped pugging even earlier because the hench option is available. You can't convince me that PvE'ers don't get excluded based on what class they are and what armor they are wearing. I've seen it and it's rampant.
I think both PvP and PvE are already guilty of elitism and adding PvE rewards isn't going to make it any worse than it is already. The people that are already elitist are going to have one more criteria for excluding people but I don't want to play with those people anyway. So no big loss. :girly:

PvE rewards that could work...
Faction for your side for doing the bonus in a mission (gives another reason for players to choose a side) This could be added yo Tyrian missions.
Faction rewards for leveling up. Since Faction can't be given away like gold, its not too harmful even if its farmed.
Rewards for doing certain things, eg: completing every mission + bonus, like having the choice of a perfect item that can be custom named (and its customised so you can't give it to anyone) This would be a nice reward, but like greens, not overpowered, and ofcourse only one per character. So you'd have to choose wisely.
Complete all missions and bonuses to unlock a one time per character name change service.
As above, only a way to change your hairstyle
But please, for the love of god and all things purple. No rank type emotes, or fancy capes or crowns or frilly knickers or surfboards or anything that can be used to cause PvP style elitism, it'll just force more people to play with henchies alone or with a close group of friends. Forcing out newcomers and causing the same them and us scenario PvP has, very very unfriendly to new players.
Where is the difference? Itīs both because of stupidity, no? Both think you "need" to be/have this or that, just because.
Well one elitism is on purpose, because they have a high rank they think they are better than you.
Feelings toward Mesmers is lack of education / understanding. Unlike obvious classes like a monk and a necro and a warrior etc. A Mesmers function in a group is harder to grasp for many players

PvE rewards that could work...
I think some kind of emote reward could work, as long as it's not something easily seen. Say, a Mesmer emote that only appears when a Mesmer casts a spell, or a Necromancer emote that only appears when the Necromancer raises a minion. These kinds of thing, invisible at the outposts in which we sellect a party, would be a nice reward, IMO.
But I think we're going to have problems. It's hard to give a reward, any kind of reward, that couldn't be used somehow to be elitist.

i think a good reward would be money in the quests we have now some money is giving max i seen was 500 on a quests and in a mian mission in forest if you do one of the bonus missions you got 2k from it. i think money would be a good idea

Argh, the first few lines that are missing contained the part where I asked Gaile about a translation of the lore on the Japanese official site! I was hoping that would be included so people could see I wasn't BSing when I said I talked to Gaile...

I'm totally digging the idea of being able to reconnet to my team if I get booted!
Ok for the parts that were missed, im sorry I really couldnt be bothered figuring out what was missed and cutting and pasting it into a new log so heres one I posted on another site:
http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/3874/gg2dsas5ma.th.jpg (http://img81.imageshack.us/my.php?image=gg2dsas5ma.jpg)
As to the logging all questions thing along with the answers I usually have a 2nd account in the district if I can now and I leave Fraps taking auto screenshots every 2 seconds, this means I can go back over it myself later and fully understand what was talked about as im usually too busy cutting and pasting to even read what was said in the first place.
I'm guessing the rewards will be linked to accomplishments in PvE somehow; that is, stuff your character has done, not linked to XP, skills, time spent or how much money/uber-stuff you have. It may be something like a special emote you get when you've completed the game, when you've completed the game AND all bonuses, when you've completed the Titan quests, Sorrow's Furnace, all the Underworld quests (though that might be hard considering they're repeatable) etc.
People can use anything to claim an elite status.

In the log 9/4/06 it was:
"We're still finalizing storage but the designers told me there will be improvements very, very soon. If not at release of factions than soon thereafter."
and now it's:
"Storage may or may not be increased. We will assuredly be making changes to make storage more efficient"
Now what's that supposed to mean? That we can now make piles of 900 glittering dust in stead of 250? :undecided:

Money is worthless - it doesnīt mean anything at all, and few actually need it.
Risk of elitism or not, I think a PVE reward should be something to show off. It is useless if others canīt tell at once that you did something worthy. So it should be something that can only be gained through PVE, by dedicatedly playing. (Either one time, or many times, but not something you can "pick up" like money.)

I totally agree, people who are elitists are people I don't want to party with anyway, if they won't let me join because I haven't got so and so rank then good for them, I'll find a group who doesn't have a stick up their butt. However while all those accomplishments and time played shouldn't give players an advantage in pvp it SHOULD give them something to show off, thats what pve is about (atleast beyond seeing the story). Getting cool stuff to show off. Its something the game is very much lacking right now and causes interest in the pve to peeter off after they hit the level 20 cap for many players.

I normally carry an Eternal Bow that I earned as a drop and I do enjoy the compliments I get from owning it but at the same time, it could've easily been purchased. I like the idea of rewarding a PvE player with something that can only be earned and not purchased but isn't just some words. Having infused armor is a good reward (and necessary actually) but it is just a word added to your armor description, no glowy effect or anything. I guess it would be cool for a visible reward to be given and I don't see how you would need to have one to be invited to a pug (like Rank is in PvP).

That wont even help me out. Rarely do I ever keep enough of any crafting items to go over 250. Only time I do this is when I know I am going to get the 15K armor and need 350 of something.
