Well, if youve read the new on community, and if note here
http://www.guildwars.com/events/ingame/factionsheadstart.php
well, I was wondering if any one here has the prorder, We could use this time to find out about the tengu, and why they are hostile one tyria, about the war, etc. :smiley:

I propose, that those who have the headstart, could you gather lore about the tengu, and post them here.

any comments :huh:

There is no reason to confine this kind of research to only people who have preorder time. Research on the Tengu will likely take more than one day, and can and should include anyone who has Factions and wishes to aide.

Initially, yes, those who have the preorder time can do preliminary research into the topic, but once the world opens publicly, everyone is welcome to participate.

People who are on during that time should post about that topic, but in my post, I meant in general, everyone can participate in Tengu culture research, as I'm sure it won't be limited to one event.

There was not a whole lot of lore involved with that Tengu Mask event... It was just farm, farm, farm, get a reward, and farm again to get another one.

Still, if anyone finds anything on the Tengu during the course of Factions, please post it here. Remember though, if it has to do with a storyline spoiler, make sure to follow the forum guidelines in the sticky thread on the main Lore Forum page.

Well this is what Guildwiki tells me about the Tengu

General Description

Tengu are humanoid, intelligent, quick-moving creatures who resemble a mixture of human and bird, with a feathered body and a bird-like head and beak. They are unable to fly, but can hold weapons and items.

Note: "Tengu" in Japanese folklore are a type of "kami" (roughly "spirit") described as "crow-headed humanoids" with "beaks ... sometimes lined with sharp teeth." See Wikipedia's entry on Tengu (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tengu).

Note: The plural of Tengu is Tengu, not Tengus.

Tengu in Tyria

The Tengu encountered by the player in Tyria are hostile to humans throughout.

The Tyrian Tengu split up into two peoples:

* The Caromi, found in Kryta
* The Avicara, found in the Southern Shiverpeaks (The vast majority of the Avicara bosses are located in Mineral Springs).

Tengu in Cantha

In Cantha, the Tengu are divided into two main tribes, the Sensali and the Angchu. The primitive and more aggressive Sensali-Tengu will attack humans and Angchu-Tengu. The Angchu learned to live with the humans who rule their land, whereas the Sensali prefer life as nomads. The Angchu learned to articulate and, generally, live in peace with their human neighbours. The Angchu deeply hate the Yeti people in the mountains, their archenemies since before the time Cantha was united as a Kingdom.

The Canthans tolerate the Angchu but few consider them equal to men. Nonetheless, humans and Angchu-Tengu jointly celebrate the end of the Tengu Wars. The anniversary of the peace treaty is celebrated by humans as the "Day of the Tengu".

Tengu Masks have been available during the Head Start Event for Guild Wars Factions.

A Tengu henchman named Talon Silverwing can be employed in some Canthan locations. He is recognized by Emperor Kisu as one of the individuals instrumental in bringing an end to the Tengu Wars.

Characteristics

Tengu are usually found in mixed groups of melee attackers, ranged attackers and spellcasters. This mixture, combined with their speed, makes them dangerous foes for any profession.

Furthermore Tengu ...

* are fleshy creatures.
* are susceptible to all conditions, incl. bleeding, poison and disease.
* leave a corpse behind.
* are not undead.
* can be knocked down.

there is additional information in a quest that involves a tengu village in Xaquang skyway, unfortunately i did the quest and forgot screenshots.

If anyone hasnt done that quest already it provides some interesting insight into the assimilation of tengu into canthan society.

*some spoiler of that specific quest*

the basic plot of it is that the tengu have established a roost there and the ministry wants to burn it down to make room for more refugees. you end up having to bribe a minister 2 plat. I know at one point a tengu makes the statement that soon the ministrys will have tengu working for them.

*end spoiler*

The Tengu Wars started 192 years ago, but there is no indication of when they ended. I'd imagine it was more than one year thing, as the Guild Wars of Tyria raged for almost a century.
