View Full Version : Preview Armor before paying for crafting....

I did a search and found nothing active remotely like this suggestion:
I am suggesting that Anet implement a way for us to get a preview of what Armor looks like before we pay to craft it and waste gold on something we may not like.
I mean come on who buys clothes without trying them on or at least getting to look at them on a rack / hanger?
So would you like Anet to create a system for Armorers / Collecters to give us a Preview of the Armor before we pay to have it Crafted? I know I would..../signed.
FYI MODS, I posted this outside Official Suggestion Thread for April because of being so close to the end of the month, feel free to move it to May.

They have that in DDO to and its great. You can see what it looks like and what it does. I had forgotten that you couldnt do that here and kept wondering why I couldnt see it, stupid me.

I would love this, and I think it's so necessary. I tried to figure out which Rit armor I wanted by testing on a PVP char, but the names don't apply now that you can have any design armor with any stats, so it was still really hard to figure out what I'd picked out when I got to the armorer. That little thumbnail is so unhelpful. It's okay at this point with Prophecies, because hundreds of people have taken screenshots so you know what each armor type looks like, or know where to go and look it up. I don't want to just pick at random, or wait until someone figures it out and posts up screenshots. This would be a really cool feature.
Very good idea. I agree completely. When I brought my Necro into Cantha, late evening on the Head Start, I immidately wanted to get her a new set of armor. Then I noticed three armor crafters with different varations of the same armor. Confusing to say the least. I decided on the Canthan Minion Master set and was very pleased by the look of it. I posted a shot of it on anouther thread but am too lazy at the moment to dig up that that thread.
I'm glad I got one that I liked the look of it. Only problem with the game being brand new is when you ask around to see someone elses, you might not find anyone that has that set (I didn't in this case). If Anet doesn't implement a /preview(item) sort of thing, we'll have to keep doing it the old way, by posting pictures of everything on forums.

I was rather surprised when this feature wasn't included in the game already when I bought it. You don't go out to buy clothes before trying them on, so why wouldn't you do the same for armor?

Yes please! I can think of absolutely no reasons for not implementing this; they could even show how your future armor will dye in the preview or make a seperate dye preview for dying armors...

I agree they should have a preview of armor you buy. I've done this a few times bought armor I couldn't stand.
Good idea. Perhaps this should be extended to previewing the outcome of dyes on your armours as well?

I would love to know how the new ranger outfits look like on my ranger. But I'm not going to spend a lot of money (and crafting material) to see if it looks good. And not all armour look good on all characters.

Lol @ no vote.

Definitely!!
Armour previewing would be nice. But I think being able to preview dye mixes would be even more important. Regarding armour I can at least find other people with the same armour to see how it looks like, but to test dye mixes I have no other choice but to waste a ton of gold.
I want this badly.

i was actually wondering why Anet haven't thought about this in the first place.
would also be great if they could also implement a way to preview armor when trying to dye it. Or better yet, have the armorer be able to offer you the armor in different colors-at a much higher price of course.

For the preview, it should be able to show our characters wearing the armor as how they look when seeing a character on the inventory window.

Voted yes, like everyone else- I don't see why anyone would think this would be a bad thing. However, there's a difference between people wanting it and ANet doing it, due to other things having other priority, etc. etc.
That said, I'd really love this- I spent a good half an hour in Vashburg Armory tonight agonizing over whether to buy the 15k ranger mask, and only bought it after someone wearing it happened to walk buy, giving me a chance to preview it.
I did a search and found nothing active remotely like this suggestion.
Although this is on my monthly suggestion list for almost a year now.....

I would love to see an armour preview!
With having the armor crafters setup each with a different look that we can choose the stats on the look we want it is rather confusing as to what the armor is supposed to look like. The thumbnail images never were any good at showing what the armor looks like. I've always said from the begginning that we should have been able to preview the armor in game. Kind of like when shopping you try on the cloths before you buy to see how they look on you.

Yes of course, how could anyone be against it??
Still, you can look on the forums for examples of how the armour will look. Things like hairdressers, more storage and so on have a far higher prioritry of course!
Yes this would be a nice feature
But as like Findariel there are other things i would like to see implimented a bit more urgently than this.
Its still quiet nice to see what youve bought for the first time on your character.
i can imagine myself sat at the armor merchants for even longer than i do now!
Naru Soulfire
I vote "no".
BUT i think there should be a difference. Collector and 1.5 k armorers should have the option.
But since 15K armor is a money sink, I think it should be a risk. It's a money sink, so bought arm you don't like. Get another. If you can afford 15k arm a week after the release then it shows you had money enough in GWP asswell. Otherzise you don't buy 15k straight away.
My idea how to implement this:
1. Spawn a doppleganger of your char posing in that armor!
It would then do exactly the same emotes as you and maybe even walk within a small circle around the armor crafter.
2. Spawn a magic Mirror through which you can see yourself in that armor
3. Simply temporarily change your armor to the one you have selected at the armor trader
Not all of these ideas are too easy to implement. Maybe you have a better one?

This is the best suggestion ever. Two thumbs up!

I dunno - but we already have an image of ourselves in our inventory, that shows the armor we're wearing. How about the armor crafter has a preview pane in his window, showing the customer in the armor of his/her choice? It should definitely be doable - think of how the guild emblemer NPC is done.

While I agree that things like more storage capacity , larger selection of aesthetic options when creating characters and more options in the guild Status / Roster window would be of a higher priority, we now know that Anet could have implemented these with Factions or at anytime for that matter. Anet could have increased storage, added more aesthetic options or ability to choose from both Tyrian and Canthan create options(not either or), and they did change the Guild Status / Roster slightly but not with anything we've been asking for (seeing when a member quits / Additional rank options) , for a year, for some reason they chose not to which suggests to me they won't be anytime soon. So I figured since this was peeving me and guildmates at the moment(because of all the armor options) I'd throw yet another good suggestion out there for Anet to probably ignore. Don't get me wrong the game is really good , but as the players we all know ways to make it better.

You can view the thread as many times as you want, but you can only vote once. The number of views will rarely match the number of votes.
For my characters, though, I ran down to Shing Jea Monastery and bought armor there. It cost less than 200 gold and a handful of materials to get the most basic armor. It's worthless as armor -- but allowed me to see what the styles look like. And from Kaineng Center down to the Marketplace there's only one group of Afflicted. From Seitung Harbor to the monastery it's a breeze for a single level 20 character.
But I would still like a preview option. Just like the cape emblemer. It could be a simple button on the crafter window, which brings up the preview like the emblemer or inventory window, that you can move and see from all angles.
I voted yes.

It would really help save us the trouble of having to buy the wrong armor... put it on and realise it's not what we actually wanted... I blew my gold and resources on the Male Rit Exotic outfit and it looks bad...
With the preview you can easily avoid making silly purchase mistakes...

A dye feature might be nice - I.E. when you double click the dye and then put your cursor over the amror you're going to dye, the appearance changes to color to preview it. And an amror preview would be awesome. Like the cape creation screen, except front view and rotatable.

I actually put in a bug report after buying Canthan armor for my warrior, because it looked so much like starter armor. Tech Support was really nice about it, but informed me that the armor was displaying exactly as it's supposed to. I'm so disappointed--I spent a fortune on that armor and I'm stuck with it.
It's irritating, because in the thumbnail versions in my inventory, it looks great. It's just on my character that it looks so crappy.

I also bought several armors just for compare the look of them, its a waste of materials and money, and for better armors thats something many people cant afford.

I would really like to see the dye one or a dye crafter where you can choose the colors like a guild cape.

This is a great idea. Saves some of the trouble of having to seach the net to see what armors look like. I would even settle for a generic characters being displayed with the male & female versions. Something larger then what you see now.

Wow, how many times has this been suggested and...uh gone "around" by by ANet? I'm sorry, but as I've said many times in many threads, ANet won't grant it unless it suits their own agenda.

I have to say this is the most one sided poll i've ever encountered- and I agree too! Lets keep the ball rolling and maybe this one will happen.
squid out
I think its an awesome idea. I shot in the dark when I picked a set of 15K to get in factions....my necro had been waiting for one. She had some before but had been very picky about her armor stats. In fact, when I first started playing factions during the headstart, the first thing I brought was a set of the 1.5K MM armor. Now, I know there were several threads and sites posting pictures of the factions armor, but was I the only one confused when they had at least 3 different variations of each type of armor? With that much variaty, it really becomes a must to have a preview feature of some sort. The selections in the first game were limited compared to this. It was easy to go to Marhans and just advertise "Hey, does someone have the 15K Tormentors so I can see what it looks like?" Or whatever set. I pulled that one out of the air. Part of the problem with factions is its brand new. Some people saved up to get a set of 15K on at least one toon. Some people are slower on the learning curve then others. No offense met, I only mean to bring up that the pictures of different armor sets aren't available yet. I do plan on making a full picture set of my necros 15K armor, and find a good thread to post it too, but for now, heres a little tease.

I would LOVE this suggestion to be used. I cant stand those tiny little "previews" in the armourers. They arent helpful, and they dont even show you want they will look like on your chara.
So have a window to the left of right of the armourer, and have it show you what youll look like. Otherwise, the only thing you can do is look at those not-so-good pics on guildwiki. Id rather have a rotating 3d model. >_>
two hands up! nothing i couldnt live without (there are pics of everything on guildwiki), but it would surely make a nice addition to the game.
also, a some sort of preview mechanism for dyes and dye combos would be great (with prices being as they are)

Yes, a dye preview would be nice too. Ive gone through a lot of dyes (only the cheaper ones) simply because they (1. didnt work at all, or (2. they looked tacky.

There should ALSO be a dye preview for when you dye your armor, so you can see what it looks like on your armor before you buy it. During this process you should be able to combine the dyes to see what THEY would look like on you as well.

This has been suggested about 7 times on another forum, but went largely ignored for some reason. It's a great suggestion, and I hope to see it implemented in the future.
I think that the armorer NPC should have a menu where you can choose the armor pieces and it will show how it looks on your character. You can then purchase the armor from that menu.

they REALLY need to do this. it is really important to invest money into armor expecially when your poor and you wouldn't want to do something wrong. i think personally theres 2 things GW needs to do to make the gameplay last longer, preview the armor before purchase and the auction house. since it's obivous not everyone in Guild Wars know how to make money. theres only so much you can do, killing things over and over gets boring, playing RA isn't great in the long run since you will run up again'st a lot of new players that dont reconize the word "teamwork" trying to start in Hall of Heros is hard as well, unless you IWAY or know someone ranked high enough that's willing to help you out. GvG is well...GvG, trying to find a good stable guild takes time. not to mention the Role Playing part in GW is nearly non-exsistent. there are things ArenaNet needs to do to make GW an overall better game. i have hopes since there ex-Blizzard creaters, and i have great respect for them and the games they turn out, they will get around to it...hopefully.
