View Full Version : Comments on Gaile and Alex Sightings on GWOnline
Hi all, I have started to compile a thread containing the Gaile sightings on GWOnline. It can be found here (http://forums.gwonline.net/showthread.php?p=4067342).
Please refrain posting your comments in that thread, instead, please post your comments here.

I'd usually post my comments on Gaile's posts in the thread she puts them in. Don't really see a need to post in a completely different one.

Huh? Did I mess something up? Please let me know if I did.

Sorry if I wasn't clear. This thread is for if you felt a need to post in the other thread. Otherwise, I agree, you should post your comments in the original threads.

I prefer this: http://forums.gwonline.net/search.php?do=finduser&u=235
There's also a whole forum dedicated to list all posts of ArenaNet or NCSoft employees at GWGuru, but GWO has a policy that forbids linking to other sites.
I cast flurry before I posted, just beat ya druidika :p

Too bad that your link doesn't work, eh?

Yes, that will also work. Personally, I think it's easier to have a thread solely devoted to this subject.

Yes, I'm aware of this also. In fact, it is the exact reason why I decided to start a similar thread here :-)
Doesn't work? I think someone pulling my leg ;)

Your link doesnt work. We do appreciate the effort, though.
Man, thats not good! This is how I always post links. Hmmm, wonder why no one else can resolve it....
OT: ArichValtrahn, I'm just trying to make sure this doesn't happen in the future. You should be able to see the link, any ideas why it doesn't work?
Zamyle, the link you posted has a search ID string in it...
http://forums.gwonline.net/search.php?searchid=386629
...this is a temporary ID for the search. So a while after doing it, it'll cease to remember what you searched for.
Druidika posted a search based on the user ID of Gaile...

I'm still not clear on the purpose of this thread. According to what you said in the part I quoted, this thread is for posting in if I feel a need to post in the other thead. Otherwise I should post in the other thread? What?
There're 3 threads:
1. The original thread that Gaile posted in
2. Thread titled "Gaile Sightings on GWOnline"
3. This thread titled "Comments on Gaile Sightings on GWOnline"
If you have comments on Gaile's posts found in thread 2, post in thread 1. If you have comments on the mechanics of thread 2, post in thread 3. Hope this helps...

Not sure why we need a thread for this (or Gaile sightings for that matter).
Here's the link to all of Alex's posts through ye olde trusty forum search engine.
http://forums.gwonline.net/search.php?searchid=388037
It's true that you can use the search engine to search for Gaile/Alex sightings; however, I believe it is easier for all forums users, old and new alike, if we had a consolidated thread on this topic. Furthermore, guru has a similar thread, of course GWOnline wouldn't want to be outdone :-)
Also, could one of the mods please move the replies in this thread to another thread? I asked users to refrain from posting in this thread in the OP, but it doesn't look like it has been followed...

you do know we can type gaile in the GWO search engine get her profile and then page through her posts?
First off milias, nice of you to put this up together. Though I know it gets fustrating when everyone keeps mentioning Gaile and Alex's Profiles as a better resource.
Furthermore, guru has a similar thread, of course GWOnline wouldn't want to be outdone :-)
I have to disagree with you trying to compare GWO and GW Guru, they're both great fansites, in no way GWO will be "outdone" if it doesn't have this, we are merely copying them. But in any case, you have the community in mind, nice job for following the idea through. Also I don't see the harm in other's adding Gaile/Alex sighting posts if they catch them before you do. Unless you had your post count in mind, which I hope you didn't. It should be something the whole community can add to, not just one member.

I have the feeling it would be a better way to spend time just to convert the Gaile & Frog Logs into text (using one of those scanning programs that convert image into text) and put them in one single topic, so we could search them with easy.

the point is he only put in the posts by Gaile by just copying and pasting the posts and adding a date, which is utterly and completely pointless as we have a profile function. I and a few others suspect that it's a way to rack up his post count from 1800 posts to 2000 posts and beyond. I am now thinking about opening a thread titled "Xunlai's Search Thread", basically people would give me a word and I would use the search function after I have read the post and would then post my result in the thread. What do you think?
EDIT: This is not a flame. It's simply questioning why the thread exists seeing as we have Gaile's profile here: http://forums.gwonline.net/member.php?u=235

Well, what more is there to do? I put in the date, put in the quote by Gaile, and also a link to the original post, what else would you have me put in there? And seriously, please stop saying that I'm doing this to up my post count. What evidence do you have? All you've got is speculation on your part. Like I said before, if you've got a problem with me, talk to me directly or speak to one of the mods, instead of going behind my back and badmouthing me! I mean come on, this is just ethically wrong, I would never do that to other people behind their backs!
And as I said before, if you keep doing this, I will report you to the mods. Now consider yourself reported. I try to do something nice for the community, I don't expect anything in return, but I didn't expect this either.

Look at the thread title it's called comments on your thread which is what I am doing. This isn't badmouthing or talking behind your back ~ it's feedback, which is the objective of the thread. I am far from the only one, who is questioning your motivation for making the thread, there are quite a few others who cannot understand why you are doing this or why the thread exists. Why you ask? Because we have something called a profile function which does what you are currently doing in your thread. Furthermore just because Guru has something that GWO doesn't, it doesn't mean that we need to copy them and make our very own version of it. So this leads us back to the original question of why you are copying and pasting Gaile's post into a thread. It makes no sense to me and to quite a few others which is why I suspect that you could be doing it to up your postcount to 2000 or for some other unknown reason. You can report me for questioning the existance of your thread, I have no problem with that.
Still don't understand why we need it when we have: http://forums.gwonline.net/member.php?u=235
Note: I am not the only one who thinks that you made the thread to up your postcount and I am not the only one who thinks the thread is rather pointless.
Why don't you make a thread in which you convert the Frogtalk and the Gailetalk into text that could be grouped into subject areas based on suggestions made by the people who attended the meeting?
This makes far more sense than the copy and paste Gaile Thread of GWO posts imo and it would actually be far more helpful. Instead of your thread I vote for a Sticky with a link to gaile's profile...
~Xunlai Agent~
No, I don't have a problem with constructive feedback. I didn't have a problem with any of the other posts, except yours, because you're saying that I'm doing this to up my post count, and the implications are very clear, which I also find offensive. If it was just one time that you mention it, I would've just laughed it off, but you have done this in several of my threads, and it's getting a bit old. I don't want to argue with you on this, but please stop this behavior; otherwise, I'll leave it to the mods to sort it out.

I only mentioned it twice. I have given you constructive Feedback and ideas for better threads and a way to save your current thread by making it much more than the profile of Gaile. I am not going to follow up the issue. You seem to think that my posts are direct insults aimed at yourself, which they are not and you refuse to reply to any of my incentives and suggestions. As you seem to be not even taking note of what I am suggesting as improvements it seems silly to further the issue. Before the mods accuse me of flaming or making inappropriate remarks I am going to drop the issue right here...

I believe this is done for the sake of convenience and having all the quotes in one thread. I like it, thanks.

And now I stop this argument before it becomes a flame war.
I personally have no desire to constantly click on Gaile's profile if I want to see what she has said about matters. Putting the quotes here means I can browse them all at leisure rather than having to click back and forth from the post log in Gaile's profile.
When I started logging, and in some small way got the ball rolling for other fansites to do the same, there was a thread here that listed all of Gaile's posts here at GWO. This was long before Guru started to do their detailed logging of both chats and posts by Gaile and Alex. If milias wishes to continue this then he is more than welcome to without having accusations thrown at him.
And to put it bluntly if I thought milias was just doing this to just to increase his post count there would be a few messages sitting in his inbox and we wouldn't be having this conversation.
Consider this a warning because if this continues I will quite happily dish out time outs.

I've made this thread for both Gaile and Alex sightings and have merged all the non sighting related posts from the Alex sighting thread to this one.

Now thats something that I think will be very much welcomed.
Hopefully it will appease many peoples concerns - whether unfounded or real - that their own voice is unheard. Even with polls in this community one cannot be certain that the results are listened to let alone actioned upon.
At least if its on the official site, and a regular thing which addresses concerns, we can know that the developers have the info first hand.

Thanks Damcyan and Xunlai Agent for updating the Gaile sighting thread! I wasn't around last night to update it, I had something else to do other than GW, if you can believe that :P
As long as the format of the thread is followed, I don't mind at all if someone else updated it.
Xunlai Agent: I tried the links to the original Gaile posts, the last one doesn't work. Also, the links should point to the original post, not the original thread. Could you please fix it when you get a chance to? If not, could one of the mods please fix it? Thanks.

Ah, that's not good. I experienced a problem with firefox and linking on this site in the post above my ones. So I wasn't sure what the exact content of the link was. So I assumed it would be the thread itself from the OP onwards. As this isn't the case maybe Mal can let me change it or change the links himself. Firefox has had a few problems in the past with the server (20 minutes loading time for a page) and so it was when I made the posts. I made a false assumption due to missing information, oh well it was a 50/50 situation

I don't mean to be a stickler, but Alex actually works for NCSoft *with* ArenaNet. He doesn't actually work for ArenaNet. Subtle difference, I know, but it's a difference.
Hmm, I just noticed that guru is linking to Gaile/Alex posts on GWOnline, is that allowed?
Since Guru doesn't have a policy against it, and the administration is doing it, nobody's really going to say they can't. Anybody can link to GWO.
Hi guys, sorry I haven't updated the Gaile/Alex sightings for a while, I've been away on vacation
I'll update them now
Meh...looks like Gaile's been keeping busy. I updated as many as I could, but I'm feeling way too sleepy after spending the whole day on planes/airports/buses. I'll finish updating them tomorrow, I'm going to bed :undecided:
Woohoo! Finally, done updating! Enjoy!
EDIT:
Oops, forgot to update the Alex sighting thread
It's updated too now
Please note that for this post (http://forums.gwonline.net/showthread.php?p=4231227#post4231227), since the original thread was closed before I could update it, I couldn't quote the post, and had to use copy and paste, so it may not be an exact copy of the original, although I've tried to make it as close to the original as possible. The only difference would probably be in the spacing. Just an FYI.
If I see your slacking on the posts I'll help you catch up:grin: , Don't Worry I've already done one
Again, the original thread for this post (http://forums.gwonline.net/showthread.php?p=4233106#post4233106) was also temporarily closed. So I've tried to make it as close to the original as possible.
P.S. Thanks DrD! I could use all the help I can get at the rate Gaile is posting now
