Hi all, since we already have a Gaile sighting thread, we certainly wouldn't want Alex to feel left out. So, here is a thread devoted to Alex sightings. Again please refrain from posting your replies in this thread, we'd like to keep this thread as clean as possible.

5/5/2006 - New respect for Alesia (http://forums.gwonline.net/showthread.php?p=4067468#post4067468)

Not stealth updated, no... There's a couple of lines from the most recent patch notes that notifies of adjustments made to the Healer and Spirit henchmen. Specifically:

The dev team are aware of player concerns posted in threads (such as this one) on fan sites. This is where streaming tech really shows how good it is - there's no substitute for having thousands upon thousands of players playing the game, it's inevitable that after release players are going to find things that were overlooked by the testers for one reason or another.

Just as happened last year with Prophecies, I think you'll see Factions continually being improved upon based on your feedback over the next weeks.

5/5/2006 - Birthday Presents (http://forums.gwonline.net/showthread.php?p=4067423#post4067423)

They're great, huh? There will be some more detailed information about the mini-monsters on the websites early next week. For now ... I believe I've seen all of the current gifts listed, and yes the colour of the gift title means the same thing as for other items in the game (white = common, purple = uncommon, gold = rare and green = very rare). What you get is random, but obviously you are more likely to receive a white than a gold or green due to rarity.

The above are Alex's posts after Factions' release. From here on, it will be new posts by Alex.

5/8/2006 - Summarized List of Factions Community Feedback 5/7/06 (http://forums.gwonline.net/showthread.php?p=4073432#post4073432)

Fantastic thread ... Makes my job a little easier . I just want to assure you all that the dev team (and especially Gaile, myself and other community-oriented staff) are reading your threads and passing information along to the dev team. What you like, what you don't like, your suggestions and constructive criticism are all being compiled.

All that feedback will be useful to the Dev team as they progress with improving Factions post-release. They've already put in place some smaller adjustments (such as changes to the Healer and Spirit henchies) due to feedback.

Threads such as this one that put forth feedback without hype/anger colouring the text are by far the most useful to us.

5/11/2006 - GW is suffering from developing strategy (http://forums.gwonline.net/showthread.php?p=4081786#post4081786)

There's two dev teams at ArenaNet working on staggered 12 month schedules to give the 6 monthly release windows, as mentioned. C3 was started back in November, and is already advancing quite well.

I think it goes without saying by now that the dev team will make any changes that they believe are warranted based on player feedback. If they decide to change aspects of Factions based on your feedback, then the changes will be made. Not just for Factions, either, any changes made to Prophecies or Factions that have an impact on C3 will be rolled into C3 during development.

5/19/2006 - Give Factions a chance (http://forums.gwonline.net/showthread.php?p=4101109#post4101109)

Perhaps here is a good point to suggest leaving behind any preconceived (from Prophecies) assumptions of how best to play Factions and try a different approach? I know that I had to change many of my favourite strategies (especially when playing with Hench) to get through Factions.

Factions is very similar to Prophecies - same type of game, after all - but there are definite key differences in some elements of Factions that means it isn't as simple as just transfering you old Prophecies play style to factions and playing.

I've seen a lot of people saying Factions has 'half as much content' and many of those are directly comparing the mission counts. Thing is ... in Factions those mission maps are re-used with quests to be completed that help flesh out the story. The content is presented differently ... if you stick to the missions only, you're going to miss a lot. It's also more densely packed, so a mission failure doesn't cost you as much time as it used to.

Branch out, try new things :). We're not ignoring your feedback (eg Elite missions and access to the early missions for characters to change continents are being looked at for revision), but equally it's worth remembering that with each campaign the dev team is trying to present new playing options. You might not like them all; that's part of why each campaign does not require previous campaigns, it allows you to pick and choose.

5/24/2006 - Give Factions a chance (http://forums.gwonline.net/showthread.php?p=4113493#post4113493)

This is a very good point. Lag is not always within our control - there's an average of 10-15 hops between where you are playing on your PC and the servers, depending on where you live and which territory you are connecting to (the high end is a European player connecting to America). A problem at any one of those hops can introduce lag.

Now, admittedly, sometimes that lag is within our control. When it is, we need as much player information about the lag as possible to help isolate the cause. The more information we get from you if you have a lag issue, the easier it becomes to find the source.

And, thankfully, a patch overnight will have hopefully solved the lag issues that some Factions towns were experiencing :).

6/15/2006 - June's Official Suggestion Thread (http://forums.gwonline.net/showthread.php?p=4171945#post4171945)

Expertise already applies to all non-Ranger skills that are valid. For example, Warrior attack skills have their energy cost reduced (those that cost energy), as do the Necromancer touch-range skills such as Vampiric Touch. Expertise does not, however, apply to any skills marked as spells as the attribute does not cover these types of skills at all.

6/28/2006 - I think GW is programmed to screw you out of Gladiator points (http://forums.gwonline.net/showthread.php?p=4202606#post4202606)

Hey guys,

Anyone having trouble with maintaining a solid connection to the servers should read article number 2744 in our support database (http://support.plaync.com/). Just do a search for 2744 and you'll find the right one. The article goes through a lot of initial trouble-shooting steps. It's targeted towards lag, but realistically can be applied to any network issues you may be having with GW. Certainly, following these steps (all the way to the bottom) will improve the ability of our support team to assist you should you submit a ticket.

6/28/2006 - London Film & Comic Con (http://forums.gwonline.net/showthread.php?p=4202635#post4202635)

OK, so I guess people are now wondering what this has to do with Guild Wars. It's simple, really :) - NCsoft Europe is attending the Con and we'll have some Guild Wars goodies to give out, demo machines and possibly some simple little contests so you can win some prizes.

On the Saturday we'll have Martin Kerstein (German CC) at the stand, and I'll be there Sunday (and possibly Saturday as well). Come join us, have some fun and a chat.

Find out more (including times and location) on the London Film & Comic Con site (http://www.londonfilmandcomiccon.com/). We look forward to meeting anyone who can drag themselves away from the Dragon Festival! :D

7/5/2006 - London Film & Comic Con (http://forums.gwonline.net/showthread.php?p=4218224#post4218224)

As it turned out, I was there Saturday and not on Sunday due to having developed a nasty blister. Anyway, a lot of fun was had by a lot of people. For those interested, there's a photo set (http://www.flickr.com/photos/93318459@N00/sets/72157594188053786/) on flickr. Don't be fooled by Ghost Widow, we found ourselves frequently talking GW with people and the freebies we had at the stand disappeared in a hurry. The guys had to take new stock on the train with them for Sunday!

Anyway, I'd also like to remind everyone that we'll be at Continuum (http://www.continuum.uk.net/) at the end of this month (28th-31st). We'll have plenty of skill pins to give away, and we're planning some fun Guild Wars activities that I'll let you all know about as soon as we have it all finalised.

7/18/2006 - Omg Nightfall Proffesions Announced!!!! (http://forums.gwonline.net/showthread.php?p=4247921#post4247921)
Now now ;). *We* never said anything about a martial artist. Remember that the press made their own conclusions after seeing some concept artwork; concept art often may be misleading, for example if it's meant for the model creation team it might omit weaponry so that the actual character details can be seen clearly.

7/20/2006 - Nightfall Slots? (http://forums.gwonline.net/showthread.php?p=4253979#post4253979)

Actually, we care about all our customers. That's one of the advantages of the standalone campaigns - players can choose which campaigns appeal to them and buy the ones they want. Of course, we'd all love it if everyone enjoyed all of the campaigns and bought them all. At the end of the day, however, you always need to remember that you can never please everyone.

Now, on the topic of character slots ... I see a large-ish thread based on nothing but pure speculation. I'd urge everyone to remember that and not get too involved with this topic for now. There's nothing announced yet.

cheers,

8/02/2006 - Nightfall release date (http://forums.gwonline.net/showpost.php?p=4289909&postcount=38)

no way? The official launch of factions was on a saturday (even though pre-orders got early access and the game was in shops slightly before that)

Official launch for Factions was April 28th ... a Friday. The early access was on the 27th.

Not sure if this was mentioned or not.. but in Australia, they don't care if it's saturday, as GW Factions was released on.. A SATURDAY! Luckily, the shops aren't far from where we were and ducking in Saturday morning wasn't a hassle.

Same date for the box to be on shelves (28th April in the case of Factions), except that because Australia is 18+ hours ahead of the US, the servers will not give you access until late in the day (after most stores will have closed).

Sidenote: yeesh, that was a lot of "quoting" and i apologize, but thought it'd better to attempt all of it in order to keep it in context.

8/04/2006 - Prophecies GOTY No Bonus Weapons?!? (http://forums.gwonline.net/showpost.php?p=4295166&postcount=6)

/bonusitems and /preorder both do the same thing, and they are *not* limited to people who preordered. Anyone who should have access to bonus items of any sort can use either command to spawn the items in their inventory.

The items automatically spawned at character creation in the past, but with so many possible items now (Prophecies and Factions preorders, GotY or EU 2006 edition bonus items, soon to be Nightfall bonus items) it was decided to make it a player decision whether the items are spawned or not.

Simply type either /bonusitems or /preorder and the items should appear.

8/04/2006 - Prophecies GOTY No Bonus Weapons?!? (http://forums.gwonline.net/showpost.php?p=4295283&postcount=9)

The wiki mentions the /preorder command and says that /goty or /gameoftheyear may work for the GOTY edition but we tried and only got "unknown command".

I will ask her to try /bonusitem(s) and if that works well I'll credit the first person who stated that when I update the wiki.

Thanks again! Any other ideas are welcome in the meantime.

I've just tested and both /preorder and /bonusitems work fine for my account. Make sure that the commands are being entered exactly as above, no spaces, no hyphens etc. If they still are not working for you, then you can contact the support team (http://eu.guildwars.com/support/) relevant to your region (US I assume) and they'll assist you with accessing the items.

A little information, to help clear up a touch of confusion in this thread:

For the European 2006 edition that offers the bonus items, the key to access them is separate from the key to enable the game.

For the American GotY edition that offers the bonus items, the bonus items and enabling the game are through the same key.

Say Alex Weekes, might you be able to clear up why the EU version isnt available in Denmark? As stated in another thread were I talked of the bonus weapons, I had to get a friend from the Netherlands to get it for me.You'll need to find out from the retailer or distributor. If they haven't got it, it's because they haven't ordered it. It may be that they have leftover stock of older editions they are selling through first. Basically, we can encourage a retailer / distributor to take the product, but we can't *force* them to. We make it available to them, they make it available to you ... hence you need to talk to them, then they talk to us.

ALEX WAKE UP! How about some confirmations here and there eh? :PBe fair, it was 8:10 am my time when you posted. I was just in the process of crawling out of bed... :)

Anyway, I have got some information for you:

1. As always, take anything you hear from a non-official source with a grain of salt. There's no official release date available yet, and the story your manager told you about Guild Wars release in Aus bears very little relation to fact.

2. Sales and Marketing team here confirmed earlier this week that the Pre-Release package will be shipped to Australia. There should be sufficient quantities for all EB stores in Aust/NZ, arriving the 15th September.

3. I'm always passing on your feedback about GW availability downunder (being an Aussie myself :) ), so please don't hesitate to contact me if you want to.

Some way of letting users know. This message is merely an advisory to the player about loot drop rates. It is not used as evidence of botting, so the message already says everything it needs to :).

Anyway, I can't give you numbers but the fact of that matter is that the population on the EU servers has only grown over time, and we're continuing to see this growth in the lead-up to Nightfall's release.

9/12/2006 - Nightfall Pre-Release Package - Europe (http://forums.gwonline.net/showthread.php?p=4375320#post4375320)
The whole of the Netherlands and Belgium is missing on that list...

I demand satisfaction! We do have shops here that sell it also! And they will be ... I just can't post any information that I don't have yet  . I'll hopefully have it by the end of the week and be able to pass it along.

Re: the question on Russia, I answered on Guru and will say the same here - I'll see what I can find out.

Re: Brazil, I have no idea ... other than that it's highly unlikely that NCsoft Europe will be supplying Brazil directly. If I ever do find out anything, I'll make sure to let you know.

9/13/2006 - Availability of Gray Giant in EU? (http://forums.gwonline.net/showthread.php?p=4376756#post4376756)

We'll add each magazine to the page as the information becomes available.

PC Gamer is the only one that I know of that will have this mini pet.For America, I believe that is correct, yes. For other areas of the world ... no, it's not correct. As stated in yesterday's press release (EU version), there will be magazines in Europe offering the Gray Giant as well.
