Ok folks... I'll be guessing that you want to get your grubby little mits on the new green daggers, the Ungues of the Oni.
Destination - Rhea's Crater.
Build - Standard Troll/Ice Cave Traps Set
Troll Unguent
Flame Trap
Barbed Trap
{Spike Trap}
Dust Trap
Serpents Quickness
Storm Chaser
Whirling Defences
Standard 14 Expertise & 16 Wilderness attribute set (minimum)
Spike Trap is *essential* here, Oni are lvl 28 and have a skill that boosts their health, so max dmg is the name of the game.
http://www.beyond-the-rim.demon.co.uk/pics/oni_map.bmp
OK, the starting point is Leviathan Pits in the Jade Sea, take the Gyala Hatchery exit. Go North and there is a battle between Outcast and Luxons. Hit Storm Chaser and burn straight through. As soon as your through the gates turn right run through the last group of fighting outcast/luxons and keep going. Cross the bridge and then follow it around in a circle until you get to the entrance to Rhea's Crater.
Ok, once you rezone the fun begins.
Run up the hill and on your left will be a shrine to Melandru (M on the map)... god of the Rangers - ah, it was almosted fated. Now, you don't need to do this, but hey, who can pass up 17 WS. Yep, pay Melandru 150 gold to have your attributes buffed by 1 point. Hey, a 15/17 trapper... woot!
The 1st Oni spawn point (1 on the map) is directly opposite the statue of Melandru, on the plateau to your right, up against the back wall. Run over there, trigger the spawn and then run away (yes, run away!).
If you're lucky they won't have gotten aggro, if they have and they start advancing when you go back to trap them then just wait a while for the aggro to break. (One Oni sometimes spawns as an evil reef lurker - this may be a bug).
OK, get as close as you can, drop a marker and then start trapping. You're going to need all you can to kill these guys. 4 full sets of the 4 traps - minimum!
You need to take aggro for a short time as the Oni hang around and don't pull 'alltogether'. Move out infront of your traps and wait, as they advance hit Whirling and move to your traps once they've clumped together. Hitting Trolls is a good safety measure because you *will* get hit.
Rinse and repeat until the Oni are dead (you will probably not get them all in one hit).
Right, onto the tricky bit. You will be following the trail of breadcrumbs on the map, in an anti-clockwise circle round to the bridge where there are 2 large groups of Oni (one fixed mob, one fixed spawn point). Each mob will be 5 or 6 Oni strong (Mumsie!)
Remember that Outcasts & Fishies will fight each other so keep running. Use Storm Chaser and burn through. (The rez point is at Melandru's Shrine so you'll have chance to practise plenty!)
There are two Outcast patrols who stop at the points marked on the map (o). There is a 'clear' space where you can rest before assaulting the Oni on the bridge. The 1st group will be there on the far side, the 2nd group will only spawn one you cross the bridge all the way.
Trap, rinse & repeat.

And, yes I wish I wasn't dyslexic and could edit the thread title to FTW ! :)

forgot to blur out the name in the 2nd screen of the bridge.
i wont say it so you get a chance to fix it...
:D
I have been trapping Oni(s) in Echovald Forest too..
Maybe I should start doing those Luxon quests to get my 10k luxon factions..
edit: i was gona ask for you IGN, but nvm i got it now lol
Maybe I should start doing those Luxon quests to get my 10k luxon factions..Off topic: I got almost all of my Luxon Faction (at least, for the "Befriending the Luxons" quest) from playing a trapper in Fort Aspenwood, Luxon side (of course). Just run up, and hit Serpent's, then start trapping those teleport pads. Use Dodge to get in/out of position quickly. If you have tempo (which Luxon's typically do, as they bash down the gates fairly quickly), you can easily prevent the Kurzick side from sending effective reinforcements on the pads, at least on your side. Once you have penetrated past the inner gates, run to the center teleport pad and trap away. Evil on a stick.

Got them on my third run and they really are sweet.
Just a thought, I think that the Ranger community is much more helpful than the other communities; the Ranger forums seem to get the most posts per day and everyone is so helpful and willing to share all their build ideas, farming builds/areas/strategies and it makes it all that much better having a Ranger as a main char. I love you guys!

I've never played a trapper before- but i was wondering how you lay down 4 of each trap, 4 times -- and still have time to draw the oni in.. do they all go down that quick?
I really should get my ranger further. :)

Yep, that's what Serpent's Quickness is there for. I actually manage to get down 3.5 sets (3 full sets of 4 + another spike + barbed) in about 60 seconds which leaves me 30 seconds for a normal pull. (Shortly after the SQ expires.)
Against the Oni though this is a really marginal kill. Laying an extra trap or 2 gives less time for the pull - maybe only 20 seconds, but you should be close enough to the Oni to make it. What I normally so though is lay the 3.5 sets, pull, hit Whirling and then add a trap or two while the bad guys are trying to bite on me. Feel free to experiment - that's what its all about
[I have confirmed this just to be accurate..
3.5 sets in 60 seconds - 30 seconds for pull,
4.0 sets in 70 seconds - 20 seconds for pull
using Serpents Quickness]
Hint. Use SQ as an egg timer... it's got a 45 second recharge - 2x SQ and thats when the traps will expire.
Using Energising Wind and Quickening Zephyr, rather than Serpents Quickness, you could easily get down a full 4 sets, but this would mean leaving Troll Unguent behind which is risky.

You might be interested to know that the Ungues were originally designed for the 'Design-A-Weapon' contest by... yes, you guessed it a Ranger ;)

No. You have to juggle faction between the two.

Yeah, I'm in a Luxon Alliance and all I do when I need to chest run the Eternal Grove (Kurzick Territory) is do one or two rounds in Fort Aspenwood with the Kurzicks, or with the Luxons if the merchants in the Jade Sea choose to discriminate.

BTW, if anyone has a spare Ice Breaker that they'd like to trade for a set of Ungues then plz drop me a PM.

Another trick, if you are Kurzick.
In Gyala Hatchery, right outside the Leviathian Pits, you can tell the Luxon Priest to stuff it. You'll die and will respawn outside of the Rhea's Crater portal. Saves time.
Meanwhile, I think it's MUCH easier to farm with a Rit. But there are many more Rangers...
Still, the Ungues price will now fall.

I just tried twice with my ranger and the oni keep walking through the traps and not setting them off. Some get through and the others get hit but them it ruins any chance to trap them cause they are out by the outcasts. Any suggestions?

stand on where your traps are.

Fall now? I saw someone selling them for 5k about 2 days after they were released. Seen several other people selling them that low since then as well.

Finally beat them but no green do they not drop everytime?
EDIT: Make that 2 runs and no greens. I logged off closed the program and logged back in to reset the farming code too.

No, all drops are random and controlled by rarity. You might be unlucky and try 50 times and not get a green drop or you might try just once and get the drop the first time.
BTW, logging off and back on does absolutely nothing to effect anything beit anti-farming code or the chances of a drop - it just wastes time that you could be spending playing.

Cool. -15% DP before you even start sounds like a great idea
I'm sure we'll all be keeping an eye on the Ritualist forum for your solo-ing the Oni guide. I for one would like to see it if it makes things *much* easier.

Just a quick question, do -all- Oni have a chance of dropping these? i've been trapping the ones on the jade sea and was wondering if its a waste of time..?

They only drop from two groups of oni around a bridge in the middle of Rhea's Crater.

Are you sure they only drop from those two Oni groups? Bleh...
By the way, there's a fourth spawn spot for those who want to get them all. Just take a right after you reach Grenth's shrine. No green daggers yet but lots of gold ones.

Well, I've only ever seen the Ungues drop from the groups on the bridge - but I'm not saying that this is conclusive evidence.

yo, this guide that u gave is a little vague considering that the outcasts outweight the fishies, therefore eventually u will have to fight the outcast which kills the whole experience.

you don't have to, just run pass all the outcasts

As Andrew said the idea is that as the 'fishies' and the outcast fight each other you use the distraction to run past them - and keep going. Neither the fish or outcast encountered during the 'run' patrol toward the bridge so once you're past them you're done.
There is absolutely no need to kill much of anything until you get to the bridge.
Both the outcast groups near the bridge (as indicated on the map) can be avoided as well.

It seems with the previous update, there is a group of outcast wandering just before the bridge..and they will not leave..
good thing that they aren't too close to the bridge, but do becareful with you run through...Leaping Mantis Strike FTL

Outcast are pussies!
Assassins & Warriors are easy to trap and Ritualists can be offensively trapped with little problem even in pairs.
Really they should be no trouble at all.
Need to go replenish my stock of Ungues!
