I haven't read any books lately (been too busy playing Guild Wars ) but the last book that I did read was the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. They weren't able to put everything from the books into the movie but I still think that they did a pretty good job. Speaking of movies, I recently saw X-Men 3: The Last Stand. It was okay. It would have been a lot better if I wasn't such a HUGE fan of the X-Men. Before it started however, I saw a trailer for one of their upcoming films: Ghost Rider. I can't wait for that one to be released. I have always liked that character and hopefully they won't screw this one up like they have done with some of their other characters in the past....

JACK, YOU BAD BAD MAN!
ITS DRIZZT, NOT DRIZZIT! LEARN TO SALVATORE, NUB!
Hehe :) But yes, to an extent, I agree - the Entreri/Jarlaxle line is new, and quite interesting. You can only do so much with one character, and I am glad Salvatore is starting to explore other avenues in the Forgotten Realms.
But Drizzt = God. The ONLY character in all of fantasy that could whoop is butt would have to be Raistlin Majere. If you do not know who that is, I pity your tortured soul.
Hmmm... Currently re-reading Lord of the Rings, as I just finished The Hobbit. I also read Unfinished Tales earlier this year. What can I say? Tolkien is just great

You forget the humorous name a small farmboy hung upon Drizzt when he first came to the surface world, and -I'm- the nub? ;)
Meh, I just got tired of all the existential angst. It's a seasoning, not the whole of the dish, and IMO Salvatore ended up using just too much.
As for Dragonlance, it was alright, but I never felt it quite had the scope of the Realms. I think the best thing that ever came out of those books was Lord Soth, Knight of the Black Rose.

Personally, I never could get into Tolkien's writing. His particular style and language use was always a detriment to my immersing myself in it. On a related subject, anyone else ever read Bored of the Rings by the Harvard Lampoon(and not decide to firebomb them afterwards, poor Tolkienites who get tricked into reading it/ignore the blatant warnings at the beginning of the book)? Or perhaps some of the Discworld novels?

Finished Catch 22 a few weeks ago, great book. Read The Alchemist as well. I'm awaiting the next of the Discworld novels...impatiently, and i need to get the sequel to Chainfire by Terry Goodkind (Sword of Truth series). Also waiting for another Wheel of Time (Robert Jordan), but that'll be a while.

They got Nicholas Cage to play Ghost Rider. He might actually be able to do a good job with this role. As far as Iron Man is concerned, who do you think would make a good Tony Stark? I currently can't think of anyone. I have also heard of some rumors that they are planning on making a Doctor Strange Movie as well. And they are supposed to be bringing back Captain America. That one has been done a couple of times and each time it has sucked. Maybe they will finally get it right this time.....
Lord Anthrax
26-06-2006, 09:04
I really don't like the idea of Nicholas Cage playing Ghost Rider, I wish they'd gotten Johnny Depp to do it, but we'll see what comes. As for Tony, if only Timothy Dalton were a decade or so younger...right now the only two names I've seen suggested are Tom Cruise(not a bad choice)and Leonardo Di'Caprio(I have my doubts about that one...)
I read 1984 years ago in High School. Doubleplusgood.
Speaking of books read in High School, of the ones that were on our assigned reading list the only ones I ever actually enjoyed were Lord of the Flies and Watership Down. It's been a while since I read Watership, I should go back and re-read it and Tales of Watership Down.

We have to have at least one foreign language in high school, and I choose English. So, I had to read English and Dutch (literary) books. 1984 and Brave New World was on my list, but I liked Day of the Triffids a lot. At least we were allowed to read some action books in English, because almost all of the Dutch books were very boring literary books, that only addressed some personal, moral problem... You had to think of all the things the writer wanted you to think about...

I have Deus Ex but haven't played it. I have heard grate things about it, and if it lives up to those, then it will be one of the best PC games ever. I started on Half-Life a while ago but it is sitting there incomplete.

Oh, I loved Deus Ex, didn't like the sequel... The first game is a bit of a combination between a RPG and a FPS. You have to make choices with your character (do I heavy weapons, stealth, hacking, etc). I always went as sniper, with a high computer skill and always tried to get in unnoticed, get to a high point and start shooting them off from a distance (if necessery).
And I still think the graphics are great.

I've got the Splinter Cell Trilogy myself and like it a lot. But the reason why I like Deus Ex better is there you have freedom of movement and freedom of choice. In Splinter Cell there's only one way of solving a problem and only one path to follow.
For example, in Deus Ex, the first misison you have to save somebody (as a side assignment). When you get to him, you can give him a gun (he's a collegue of yours) or you can let him stay put (which he won't like, but I did...) and finish the rest first. Somewhere near the end of the game, this decission will change a conversation you'll have with him. Also, when you give him a gun, he will charge out, killing everybody on his path, while if you don't give him one, you'll be able to sneak past everybody and continue your way.
Why is the weather so nice? I can't see anything on my monitor when the weather is beautiful, so it won't do me any good to install it again

I don't know much about buying/selling real estage either... But I do know it's fast... The usual time (in my neighbourhood) would be 3 to 4 months...
And about playing or moving...
We should get the key for the new house half October, and then we'll have to "renovate" (with the help of a professional...), at least the bathroom, the living room and the bedroom.
Then, half November, the move will start. So, it depends a bit on when Nightfall will really appear...

We'll be using a professional moving company. So, everything will go in 1 day. And we will be breaking down some walls... Which will result in a lot of dust. And my Yaris can't handle that much lugage...
And, naturally, let's hope the ADSL connection is up and running in time...
Wat most likely will happen is that halfway November, I will need a break and go playing GW 24 hours... Escapisme...

My reason for not finishing Deadly Shadows is because of (drum rolls....) a terrible old fashioned graphics card!
I've had it installed... But could only play it on the lowest resolution... So, I deinstalled it again and this year I'll be buying a new graphics card (and motherboard and processor...) So, this winter, I'll most likely be playing it... (if I can take away enough time from Nighfall...)
