View Full Version : Anet - can we please have a keyring?

Notorious BOB

I just noticed that on my primary character I have...

1 Shiverpeak Key
3 Canthan Keys
12 Forbidden Keys
3 Deep Jade Keys
2 Phantom Keys
12 Luxon Keys
2 Obsidian Keys

Thats 7 storage slots used up by keys!

So, how about giving us a keyring item that we can buy (like a pouch or bag) that can only be used to store keys?

i agree
plus i can see how it could be implimented (from an interface stand point)
i see it as an icon like the pouch, or bags, but i wonder how many slots it will be (aka how many total different keys are there)?

03-07-2006, 00:14
Yeah, I agree. Whilst I certainly don't jingle as much while running around Tyria and Cantha as you; that certainly is an impressive list of keys. And we all know how difficult it is to dig in your backpack to find a key.

But only do this for owners of Chapter 4.

The op has them on his primary char..
I'm starting to consider all my chars primary so I have my collection of keys in storage. This takes up almost half my storage.

I want keyringthing

This is an old idea btw.

Good idea, although I've never seen the need for that many keys.

Depending on the area I'm in, I buy two or three keys, use them up, buy more if needed, sell left overs when moving to a different area. Until we do get a keyring, I suggest something similar to that...

7 slots of my storage are taken up with keys - stoneroot, forbidden, darkstone, shiverpeaks, phantom, obsidian and elonan. Yet I still often forget to take them out when one of my characters goes there. For me, keyring>materials tab... so /signed.

Materials you can basically mule because you very rarely have a need for them - which is why Anet should be implementing this instead:angry:

Now that ANet are planning to introduce this tab system to storage it's quite possible that they'll be able to add something like this in future. I see the materials storage tab being a test run to make sure their system can cope with storing that number of material types.

How about one of your storage slots having a little up n down arrow on one side,..... as you scroll it it pulls forward the next key type with a number in the corner of how many keys of that type you have...click the arrow....it rolls over to next key type....

hehe want the old janitor set, with pull out chain, dangle them off my hip and if in a bind and cant whip out the sword or staff, sling out the trusty key chain full of razor ends and slash out the baddies eyes, when done scratching them to death, or at least blindness, they slip nicely back into there little holder, on my hip.

good idea, wonder if I can have mine with the Harley Davidson logo on it, in chrome of course.

IMO, keys are a goldsink. Just buy a key when you aboslutely need it, otherwise don't keep keys unless you'll be returning to the same location in the near future.

My storage is full, my first backpack is always full with my important stuff and one divider. Any space would be great.

03-07-2006, 07:02
Yeah, this is something many are quite in need of. I've basically just had to only keep 4 sets of keys for my characters to share in storage. (Stoneroot, Deep Jade, Phantom, and Obsidian) Any other less valuable keys I just buy 1-3 before I go out into that particular area so I just use them up and don't take up storage space. Some type of key ring would be great so I could just keep a stock of different keys insted of buying them constantly, and it would be something less that I'd have to be juggling between characters.

To bad there's no NPC that could turn your stuff into little coloured boxes with ribbons like the birthday or festival presents, that would be nice ^^

Can we have a quest item box and a box for collectors items... the list goes on and on... I seriously doubt that a lot of people are hoarding keys without actually using them.

But as usual people will make retarded petitions about anything.

I am using 9 storage slots for my keys. This would be really useful. And if they would make a storage box for just quest items, that would be good too! HAHA! OOOO, I never thought about collectors items! I am using way too many spots for those! Moklar, you have some great ideas!!

Rarely have a need for them? I need materials a LOT more often than I need keys. In fact, when I get a key, the vast majority of the time I sell it, either to merchant(shing jea keys, etc) or other players(obsidian keys). As for "basically mule", I already have TWO mules devoted to stuff other than mats, and frankly, I'm out of character space to mule with.

I support a keyring, though honestly I wouldn't use except as a way to very slightly save inventory space while farming(instead of that key that sells for 200 gold taking taking up the limited space in my inventory, I can hang it on the keyring, then pick up ANOTHER item to run sell)

While a keyring woudl be nice, I dont carry around many keys. I would rather see another method to store dyes & weapons.

My storage is more than half filled with keys from different places. Luxon keys, Kurzick keys, fow keys, uw keys, canthan keys, darkstone keys, miner keys, shiverpeak keys, stoneroot keys... The list goes on, and that's just for the upper lvl areas that I have all the keys for, it would be nice to have a key storage and a keyring.

Perhaps after they mess around with the material storage for a bit, they will consider other storage tabs like that. :)

Only a limited amount of players carries so many keys. Of course, its handy to store your keys somewhere else, but what about the ppl who hoard materials, carry scrolls, salvaging weapon mods, having quest items and stacking up collector's items?

When A-net gives us something for keys, they should give us all of that as well. The result is that we will still have an inventory worth of 100 items.

And when by chance, Anet DOES make bags and pockets for all this, people will complain about having not enough storage room, and demand a scroll part, key part, quest item part etc. in the storage.

Just giving us a key ring would be a bit hypocrythic, since people who collect something else than keys (or do something else than chest-running) will want something for their stuff as well.

Given that Factions actually mandates that you have to buy keys 'in advance' this is an interesting comment and not all of us are 'chest runners'.

With the current set-up, You have to stockpile Luxon and Kurzick keys (if you're planning on opening chests) because you can *only* buy those for which you currently hold faction allegiance.

Added to that, nobody off-loads Phantom/Obsidian/Deep Jade/Stoneroot/Forbidden keys that they find only to buy them later. If you make frequent trips to the UW or the new Elite missions then you keep the keys you get... period.

So there's good enough reason for a 7 slot key-holder.

There will always be detractors and a minority who say 'I don't need that'

Hell Envoy
04-07-2006, 01:09
Hmm I must admit that I forgot the Luxon/Kurzick thingie...

But still, most people buy keys from players (I don't know a chest runner who buys the keys of a merchant, cause you can save like 200 gold per key when you buy off real players).

And even when nobody sells keys, you can still get keys by bribing at a ressuraction shrine (it only costs 50 gold, if this is a problem, go to Shing Jea Island or Ascalon, and kill some Devourers or Kappa's for a quick 50 gold)

I cant say that I dont want a key ring (I'd be happy with it, even), but when A-net gives us something that not every1 uses, alot of people will complain about "A-net DID give us a key ring, but we dont get extra storage space, or room for other items".

In Factions some of the rez shrines are manned by two guards, a priest and a merchant.

If you are allied with the other side though, you can pay the priest 50 gold to use the shrine and you can also use the merchant.

I just recently decided to just sell my keys (I had about 9 slots worth of them) to a merchant... and then 2 weeks later, they did the no favor thing for FoW and UW! I had 5 obsidian keys before...

If I had a keyring, I definitely would not have sold them, but I got tired of them taking up so much room in my inventory...
