View Full Version : The Catacombs?
I was fairly disappointed that the Catacombs which played a huge part in Pre Searing did not make an appearance in Sardelac Sanitarium.
Are there any plans to re-implement and expand the Catacombs section in Post Searing?
Perhaps making it a Prophecies only area? :fortuneteller:

Probably not.

I would imagine, based on the condition of Sardelac post-searing, that any entrance to the catacombs was likely sealed.

I doubt they would change the maps in Prophecies now that Factions is out.
The short answer is, "No". We can expect no major content updates to GW: P.
That said, the Catacombs has seemed like a gaping hole from day one. Why did the Abbey become Sardelac Sanitarium? Who is Sardelac? What's going on there? How did it become sealed? What about the back entrance?
It would be a lovely content addition, but I doubt will ever see it.

Quote from GW wiki:
Once an abbey dedicated to Dwayna, Sardelac Sanitarium is now used to house those who have suffered serious mental harm during the Searing.
Ah, but remember that Mhenlo retrieved an artifact from the Catacombs during the Necromancer quest? So he found a way in somehow...
Quote from GW wiki:
Whoa.
So, there's a hole and they throw crazy people in?
Hard core.
It would be wonderful if they did and made them bigger and better but I guess it would look a lot like SF but I would still love to see it. Unfortunely, I doubt it will ever happen :(
Yeah Prophesies should have new explorable regions. Tyria is big, but many of us have been everywhere there. I have been waiting for caves/dungeons, new realms to reach from ToA, or something. Catacombs would do nice. But with lvl 20 content, too.
Aye, or make a new entrance in the Northern Shiverpeaks or an area in Dragons Gullet...or something.
Somewhere tough...

I forget where, but I think it said somewhere that most of the Ascalonian catacombs collapsed after the Searing. If you look around Post-Searing Ascalon, there are large depressions in the ground that take the shape of collapsed tunnels. These would indicate that, as would be expected of a large subterranean cavern system, the catacombs have collapsed.

Damn! :(
It would of been great to go back in there... :(

Actually if the huge Grenth statue in the Catacombs didn't shatter,we would see part of it sticking up out of the ground. Which I checked and didn't see any parts. Also, you used to be able to look in the Catacombs, from I think,Barradin's estate, but they put big boulders up so you can't.

On the map in Sanitarium, you see stairs are intact past the boulders as well...
Maybe most of the Catacombs are still intact...
The catacombs are really big and really well done, art-wise. There are even a few hardy souls that explored them completely (in pre-searing, ofc), which is pretty hard to do since they're not mappable (similar to SF). I really wish there was more to do there other than the few pre-searing quests.

The catacombs were my favorite pre-searing hunt along with the Charr across the wall. Hopefully we will see something similar in future chapters.
Yeah, I have to agree with Fyre. The Catacombs was simply a gorgeous piece of work. That red metal lace bridge with the golden highlights ... was simply gorgeous. As was that abandoned temple, the look down through the waterfal with the statues.
It was and is probably one of the better maps throughout the game.
They should make an underground enterance to the catacombs thats faced with lvl 20+ monsters. Those monsters will be a new breed, shunned by light and the world so they are mutants. The catacombs will have seperate sections where if you do something like meteor shower in there, then the catacombs will collapse even more killing you and your party.

MMM :surprised:Catacombs:surprised: that would be unreal
But they should make it so that you are only able to get to there from Temple Of The Ages or Zin Ku Corridor
If that happend it would be so cool
Well it just an IDear :brainiac:
I think theres sucha huge area and lore that could be explored in Tyria that a whole expantion revisting more underground areas and unfogged bits would be throughly exciting.
Maybe we will find Gwen /sigh

I always loved the Catacombs as well. Sometimes I fire up my pre-Searing character just to go and kill that Skeleton Boss yet again!

He did? Why the heck doesn't he use this incredible power for good during Arborstone?
Darned Mhenlo.

I loved the final chamber in the Prize Moa Bird quest. The catacombs are visually nice throughout, but that's one of the areas that really gave me a sign of what later areas might be like.

Maybe they should implement the entire Pre-Searing map as an extra, elite area like FoW/UW, that is completely separate from the actual Pre-Searing. I really loved the bright, and non-gloomy/carefree feel of Pre-searing.

Me too. I rerolled my first character so many times because I just couldn't stand being in the ugly, burnt Ascalon. I hope they consider using the Pre-Searing maps for something else in-game too! :)
Chapter 3 will have a desert/african theme, so I would not be surprised if we get some inside pyramide action there...
Smash those mummies...
I know we've had this question asked before. As Gaile has said they plan on working on new chp's, not adding to old chp's.
If you enjoy it so much, then you should keep a char in presear, probably the only way you'll see it.

The Catacombs were/are nice. I really thought they'd play a large part in post-seering when I first started, that was the only area in Pre that scared me. I'm sure Anet will have a couple of tricks up their sleeves in the future.
Gwen items and such are still to find a use, if another quest was added to pre-seering to find another item I'm sure alot of Factions players would roll a new character in Tyria and try building up to level 20 the way it should be done.
I hate Canthan Mesmers, I had to hench almost every quest in Tyria with mine to get anywhere.

Pre-sear seemed like heaven too me, simply wonderfull. How I would love to see the cathacombs again! As far as I'm concerned the artwork was simply awesome and as yet unparralleled in GW. I am actually planning on buying a extra character slot as soon as they are available, just to make a permanent pre-sear character.
Perhaps they could make It an update like FOW or UW, pay 1K to sevice Dwayna in heaven, or Melandru?
Although it is unlikely to happen, it would certainly make my day.

"So you wish to prove yourself a true Necromancer? Then I have a task for you. A group of Grawl raided the Sanitarium several days past. We drove them off but not before they carried off a valuable artifact, a Holy Relic that Mhenlo had retrieved from the catacombs. The Grawl were last seen just north of here. I shall accompany you on this mission to evaluate your performance. When you are ready, meet me just outside the Sanitarium."
"What say you?"
Maybe the boulder collapse covering the main entrance in Sardelac Sanitarium was recent after or during Mhenlos exit from retrieving the Holy Relic?
This kind of proves that they are still intact, and that there are possibly more areas that we did not see in Pre Searing. (Since we did find a 'Holy Relic' in Pre Searing.)
Perhaps the Searing knocked open a few old passage ways, freed blocked or covered areas like rooms and additional passages from mud/brick?

She may say that, and producers are behind that, of course. But we, the players want otherwise! If Gayle says this or that, it doesn't mean we shold cork it up and forget it. Power to the people!

i dont think it will be back but all they have to do is move the rocks, add a portal, and put the old map of it there. but if u want to c part of the catacombs again(small part but its there) PM me (in game, Masterpyro Reborn) and il add you to my guild and you can c the small part of it that i own. i might even let u be and officer
The holy relic Mhenlo retrieved from the Catacombs was probablt that item he ordered you to help another monk get out of there Pre-Searing. It was a monk quest, since you had to heal the fellow monk... a lot.
