... Basically an in-game update notice placed in the central area of each town. Talk to him to see what's being updated and such without going to the GW website. Naturally, such a thing would only be useful if frequently updated.

Side benefit would be that this NPC could also be an in-game information booth, an interactive help menu, a function which is really quite lacking at the moment. (I hate those out-of-context/useless "tooltips"... I hated that paper clip guy in MS Office and I hate these too.)

Hell maybe this guy could even be a timekeeper. Have him announce the time in PST (which Arenanet seems to prefer) or GMT every hour or something. I mean, we already have those "you have been playing" reminders.

Just a thought.

I like the In-game New NPC idea. A lot of players don't visit forums or GW's main website. It would be a good way to give them access to additional information. Although Arenanet could just expand on the information they have in the box next to the login, since that's already there.

I don't like the time thing. The "You have been playing..." reminders are annoying enough.

That would be really cool!

I like the idea too, especially seeing as those people who do neglect to check the site walk around town for 20 minutes asking the same question over and over " When does the festival start?" "How often does the emperor come?" Questions like those could be easily answered by something like that
In my opinion, its a great idea

Have a Herald and an in-town BBS system sort of thing. So those who don't know about the forums can ask questions, sell stuff, and in general it would be like how some towns have those bulletin boards with notices.

The Herald idea is great by the way. Maybe not so much the time idea, but other than that he would be like the in-game official website from the sounds of it.
