View Full Version : Paying for Name Changes

Currently, Guildwars has a strict policy in regards to name changes -- they won't change your name unless it is offensive. I actually understand the restrictions on preventing name changes on the fly to prevent any type of abuse and fully support this. However, I do have two characters whos names just grind on me. In fact, I wonder WTH I was thinking when I named them. They aren't offensive, but I just dont like them. One of them, on my male character, sounds like a females name and have had several people call me ***, or have said its a *** name, etc.

I've contacted support and they gave me the usual response that they wont allow name changes and that I should just create a new character, etc. Unfortunately, I have over 400 hours invested in this character and he just hit his birthday a few weeks ago -- I'd love to see what he gets for his next birthday. I also don't have the time to start him over again.

I'm getting to the point where I'd be more than happy to pay a fee for changing my characters name. Does anyone else feel this way?

On my oldest character I'm not all that happy with the name either. I wish I could change it, but I don't think I'd pay any money for it. I'd prefer a long painful name change process than pay money for something that really doesn't matter.

Sorry I can't really relate. I put thought into all of my char's names before naming them and I love all of their names...each name kind of acts like a personality.

If ANet does name changes for a fee I don't think it would be bad (it would be a service I would not use and probably a good amount of other players won't use it either)...but doing that would be the very last thing on my list of needs for ANet to work on (if I had a list...*hides list*).

5k to change your name, and only allowed to do it once every six months on an account would be quite fair to everyone including those with little money.

If anything, setting a limit on the number of times a name can change is a great idea too. Afterall, I just need one chance to get my name right this time. :)

My necro, I would not mind changing his name.
He was supposed to be a mule and before I knew it he was in the Grotto with Tormentor armor.
I cannot redo him since he has everything unlocked with Protector of Tyria and now Protector of Cantha.

Maybe a one time name change and that is it.

I can only hope

You know.... These paying threads are getting rather old.

The last 2 million threads all came up with the same answer.

No, most people do not like paying.

Please keep the above stated fact in mind people when you post another one of these threads.

Yikes... someone has a case of the mondays. I didn't see anything in regards to name changes. Last time I checked, this is a forum to discuss topics. If you don't like it, close the browser. Do you have a better idea for name changes, or do you just like posting a response with no real input?

In fact, let me help you out with your post to not only make it a little more friendlier, but make it so that it contributes to this thread :

"There have been many posts in the past asking for certain features to be obtainable through a means of paying. Unfortunately, they all end up with the same answer in that the majority of the users would not want to pay for certain features. In fact, here's a thread that was started awhile ago in regards to paying for names in which you can see the response. As for me, I would not want to pay to have my name changed."

Its not that hard, really...

Hear Hear! :english:

I put tons of thought into what I was doing, even for my mules, because I knew I would eventually want to play them :)

I would LOVE, however, to have that option available for a mere 20k. Gasp is right.

I dont care about changing any of my chars names, but if I did I woudl be willing to pay with in-game gold to do so. Ashberry's response woudl be good.

I would not pay real world money for a name change.

Another option woul be to allow 1 name change when you buy a chapter.

Bottom line, I would pay in-game money for it. Would not pay real money for it.

I would like to see this as well, one time change for 5-10k. So it would not be too hard to do, and couldn't really be abused.

Even the lengthy name change process spoke of sounds good too.
The more options the better in my opinion. Within reason of course.

I don't have any problem with any of my character names right now, but I have heard a lot of people talking about how they wish they could change theirs, including friends and guild members. They have even mentioned multiple times how they would be willing to pay a fair ammount to get the name changed.

On a related subject, I have also heard of some guilds that want to change their guild name but don't want to have to rebuild everything to be able to do so. Has that been tossed around? It really wouldn't be all that hard from a coding standpoint just to make the name changeable and keep all of the attributes. Let me know what you all think of this one.
