View Full Version : Continent of Cantha?
just a quick question, but is Cantha a continent, or a country? Before it came out I assumed it was a continent, but seeing as is consists of 1 city, a very large lake, a forest and some fields, it seems to me like its more of a country that a continent. Unless the forest and the jade sea are supposed to be seperate countries, but I cant imagine that personally.
I did look for a definition of continent but all I could find was "one of the large land masses of earth" which doesnt help in this situation

Cantha is both a continent and a nation on the continent.
The part of the continent of Cantha you described as "1 city" is the country of Cantha, and the seat of the Empire of the Dragon. The Luxons and Kurzicks, the two groups that occupy the Jade Sea and Echovald Forest, respectively, started out as vassal states of the country of Cantha, but are no their own independent nations on the continent of Cantha.
So Cantha is a country and a continent, just like Tyria is a continent and a planet.
I'm sitting here looking at the timeline the the Factions manual, it says that Cantha had humans on it before Tyria. Logically, wouldn't the planet be called Cantha, not Tyria?
It doesn't have to.
When humans came to Tyria, perhaps they wanted to name it after their planet.

The problem here is assuming that humans are the supreme beings of Tyria. Remember, the Old Gods and the Forgotten, as well as most of the beast races of Tyria existed long before humans. It is most likely they who named the planet and humans who adopted it after their emergance.
