how come theres a limit of how many people i have on my friends list? i cant fit all my friends on there and it aggervates me :censored:
Yep, this is something I wish was improved - the limit Anet set on the friendlist size is easily filled, I end up having to rotate people off it if they're inactive for any period of time.
(Perhaps this should be in the Suggestions forum?)

If they would only give us an alliance roster... that would really make room on my friend list...

Same here, the friends list is way too small and I'd like to put them in categories as well.

Definitely need an Alliance Roster. An Alliance without an in game roster is like a Microwave without well.. microwaves.
Friends list needs its limit removed, both firends and ignored folk.
We should have the ability to RENAME each person on our friends list to a single name. I dont much care which character they happen to be using at the time anyway. I'd rather just know them by a single name of my choice. Keeps the friends list nice and tidy. Can do this with MSN and honestly, if Microsoft can do something then there's no excuse nobody else can right?
Catagories would be cool to have I must admit. Can separate the regulars with the randoms then, or make a catagory of scammers so you can keep a record of them (and simply by not renaming these guys in your list, you can see what character they're using at the time)
Have the whole thing REMEMBER its last state, if you collapse one of the catagories it should stay collapsed, not pop open again the next time you switch characters.

This made me laugh. Been a long while since I've seen this kinda humour in a forum
Personally, I'd like the ability to be able to store a note alongside the name. Don't know if MSN has that feature but I'm sure Microsoft could implement it if they put their collective minds to it
(Perhaps this should be in the Suggestions forum?)
I have this in my new suggestion list for July.
Indeed, having an Alliance roster would reduce the people on my Friends list by half.

They really do need to increase the number of people you can add to your friends list and your ignore list, and no longer have them share the same limit.
Since we are on the topic of the friends list, has anyone said anything about the friends list saying where people are? That way you could look at your list and see, hey this person is in the guild hall and this one is in Ascalon dist 2, or even this person is doing this mission, or this person is in the shiverpeak mountains. It would be nice to be able to see where everyone is at.
What do you think?

it would be nice if there wasnt a limit but you have to remember about their servers. if everyone had 100mil friends on their list that would fill up the HD on the servers and game play would be slow..couldnt do anything new because HD are full...but i agree that the limit should be larger and that there should be al rosters....but if the friends list and stuff is put into the 2+GB file then scratch my last comment.

I must agree with Ice Queen -
many times i play with good people, then i don't see them for awhile (a recuring problem for me since i'm a GMT +2 time zone and i play the american servers) and then i forget what i did with these people.
i would like to have the abilty to add next to:
"Robin Williams" - played with him at galrath good pro/heal monk
somthing like that

It's a bummer. . .
I'm heavily into Ra so I meet up with new / cool / talented people all the time.
I can't add them all though.
You gotta just roll with it I guess.
I would like to suggest 3 things.
- I recently inquired about - How can we reset our friends list to zero ? with the GW support team. However their reply was (at this time there was no way to do this). I know how to remove the names, but
this still keeps my name on their list, It would be nice for there to be a way to be removed completely?
- Status: I noticed and its a bit annoying that if I set my status to offline. Each time I log back in - it changes to online ( would like a way to be able to set status before completely logging in) like when you choose which character to play - should be a button to also change status there.
- Characters: I also find it a bit annoying, that each time I want to play with a different character. I have to log off. Would be nice to be able to switch characters without having to log off each time.
I agree with the third one. Not with the other 2 though. If someone is somehow constantly pestering you report them with screenshots or more simply add them to ignore.
If you play a game like gw its normal that you get interaction with other players, its one of the key features. It wouldnt be anywhere near as popular if you payed alone without internet or other players.
Its the wrong game for you if you dislike playing with other humans.
But to be honnest people don't bug me, if you don't want to see your friends anymore, just ask them not to talk to you again. They will probably just think "bah" and remove you from their list, if not ignore them.

This is a security measure to make sure noone can delete your entire account should you forget to log out one character. You can bypass it though. Add -password [yourpasswordhere] to the GW desktop shortcut and you will never have to type your password again. Just make sure it is on a computer that noone you dont trust utterly has access..

I think most important feature missing here is that status does not switch to "away" when you character is idling for some time.

First - Friends list is not "mutual." You can't take your name off other people's lists. This is fine.
Second - I wouldn't mind the ability to change status before logging in.
Third - This is a feature. Gaile calls it "defense against the evil little brother." If someone comes upon your computer while you're logged on and you aren't there for some reason... they can only delete the stuff on one character. They can't even delete that character, much what touch your others. You *can* however, set your account to auto-login. If you go to your shortcut to GW, add "-password yourspassword" to the end of "target." This will make you auto-login on starting GW and upon logging off from in the client.
eowen I know that multipalyer games is mostly for interacting with others. However there are times I wish to play alone. I cant just ignore, someone that whispers me or asks for help in another part of the game.
So being able to play alone sometimes is fun/relaxing as well - specially if you pretend to be a tourist and take lots of sceenies ^^.
Would like to hear more opinions on these suggestions.

Is there any reason why you can't see where your friends or guildmates are? It'd be a good addition I think, so it displayed the area (and district if applicable) in the guild / friends window for each player, and maybe if you right clicked you could choose to move there if it was an outpost, mission or town.
I've had Guild Wars since prophecies came out, and have just come back after a break playing World of Warcraft now that Nightfall has been released. It's good to be back - GW is far superior in my opinion, but there are a few features which I think would be great if added.

As a first poster, I have to agree with Dark Reaver on some of this. If I knew at the login screen, which friends of mine were online, I might like to log in to a certain character. My ranger in Prophesys, or my Monk in Factions. Now I sometimes have to log back out and pick another character. Waste of bandwidth... Thanks, Drek Meer

EXCELLENT IDEA!
Why should I need to ask my Guild Mates 'Where are you' every time we want to meet up to go questing??? It could show in the Guild Roster.
* Recommend limiting this to towns/cities/outposts/mission gathering areas though and not explorable areas, as you can't 'meet' them in an explorable area anyway. Thus it would serve a dual purpose - ALSO lets us know when a guild mate is NOT in a town and might be engaged in a quest/fight whenever we don't see a town/city name next to them in the list.
First of all, I'd like to have a bigger ignore list... atleast 25 :D
Anyways...
I think we all know how hard it is to actually remember who is who in your friend list after a while, especially if you dont play that often. So, could there maybe be a small "note" system next to each friend in our friendlist?
Something like, you click the friend icon (the same icon you use to remove friends etc.) and click the "add note". You can now write a note that may be up to 20 characters long.
This note will appear everytime you hover above a friends name in the friend list.

Brilliant suggestion. This suggestion would be extremely helpful if it was added to Guild Wars.
Brilliant.

I'm all for it, I'd prefer if it was stored computer side so it wouldn't take up their server space, the only issue though there is that notes are not available if you log on using a different computer, but honestly thats fine with me for the ability to leave notes next to names.

WARNING! I merged several threads so do not expect coherence from post to post.
have you got a full-on friend list? do you use the list often? do you still remember who-is-who on the list?
yes we have strange names on GW. we may think it is cool and unique and easy to remember but after all, so many people are trying to achieve the same it becomes confusing. my friend list has been dusted because I don't really know who is who anymore.
that is why we should have a little tag attached on the each name of friend list. a small lable or tag that you can type some memos about each friend. some are experts in missions, some are friendly helpers, some are good PVEers and some are honest(if they exist) dealers.
so we can really contact with those who is not our guildies. what do you think?
personaly this would be handy, but you still have the first name you entered in th list so it's not sutch a big problem.

this would be handy, indeed. as well as a larger space for friends! i hate it that i can't add any more people. >.<
I'd love to see a feature like that added. and a larger friends list as well. and an ALLIANCE roster (just showing who is on).

I think we need a unlimited ignore list...
oh, oh oh, I have a suggestion.
ANet should add a feature that to those you put in Ignored list, you will NEVER team up with them in RA.

I sometimes dont wanna talk to some of my friends, but I don't wanna put em on my ignore list. I'd like a lil' thing that is by each name, click it and... Here's an example:
Friends:
Boquis Gwonline Mem(Boqus Wammo)---[T]>>>>Set my status to:
>Invisible to Boqus Wammo
>Away to Boqus Wammo
>Do Not Disturb, Boqus Wammo
>On to Boqus Wammo
Zar Roc Sword---[T]
Xx Kur Zicks Xx(Kur Zicks Zits)---[T]
L A Is Da Life Fo Me(L A Rules)---[T]
Drunken Monkey(Monkey In A Closet)---[T]
Karnac The Wolf(Karnac The Fang)---[T]
Moo Cow Blues---[T]
Forty Sleepless Nites(Crush The Gov)---[T]
Sorry, I had a lot of fun making up names, but you get the gist of it, right?
Boquis Gwonline Mem(Boqus Wammo)---[T]>>>>Set my status to:
>Invisible to Boqus Wammo
>Away to Boqus Wammo
>Do Not Disturb, Boqus Wammo
>On to Boqus Wammo
thx for giving me a Wammo. maybe I will put a mending on his skill bar.

What I would like is some groupings for my Friends List that are customizable, as I have so many I sometimes dont remember who everyone is.
You would be able to customize their name and their placement.
Example of Current Friend List: (with random names)
My Eyes Burn
In Soviet America
Rise of Ghandi
ZOMG RAGE QUITTERRRR
Example of Modified Friend List:
PvE Allies:
-In Soviet America
-Rise of Ghandi
Team Arena Group:
-ZOMG RAGE QUITTERRRR
-My Eyes Burn
Basically making it easier and more organized.

I can definately see the use in this. It would make a nice addition to the system and I can see that this might tie in nicely with whatever LFG type of interface they plan.

PS
I dunno, but I think they should add "weigh" to their prioritization of stuff. It's good to have "priorities" but add the "weigh" factor will make it more "effective".
I mean, for example, the "Character Sorting" in the character selection screen took them months before they added it in, when I'm pretty sure it's just a few line of codes to add. But it took them months coz it was prioritized less. Yes it is understandable, but if you put the "weigh" factor, that one will gain more weigh because its the fastest to implement. In fact, I doubt that Character sorting will deviate them from their plans :p
Anyway, just my thoughts :p

I've been thinking lately and talking with several of my guild members and often the same idea comes up.
Wouldn't being able to create custom status messages that float over our heads (or some variation) be nice? There could be a word limit, just some way to tell people "AFK- dinner" etc. Currently the only way to know someone is away/busy is to add them onto your friends list or if they are in the same guild you can check there.
My other suggestion is a simple walk emote. I am an RPer as is everyone in my guild and the majority of in my alliance. Many would agree that a walk emote would be nice. I guess it could be similar to the ice effect in Marhan's Grotto, but basically toggable.
What do you think?
both are splendit, the walk idea was waving trough my mind for about a month now and it's enoying when you have 20 join requests while you're in a low lvl place...and that after dinner

i like all your ideas actually ive wanted the /walk toggable option for a long time I remember in diablo 2 when you could do this in town
I was thinking that maybe anet could implement a user made description besides friends name on the friends list. That way I cannot forget what they did with me. Im a human being with limited memory and cannot memorize more than 10 friends ingame (I also have friends in real life).
It also seperates scammers to pure annoying people in the ignored list.
