View Full Version : Console Guild Wars?
I was just thinking that it would be kind of cool if Guild Wars was ported onto a console. That I way I could lounge on the coach while I played
Anyway, something like the xbox 360 would work pretty well, it already has an mmorpg on it (FFIX) and it also has 8 buttons aside from start, back and pushing the joystick in (8 skills), along with xbox live having included headset and voice chatting. Then there is the cool effect of always being able to play any music on the hard drive for those farming times.
Anyway, just thought it was a cool idea, and I didn't see it on the search.

They want to do it but Jeff said right now MSoft and Sony dont' want to give them the kind of control over distribution they need.
I think it would be awesome, though the streaming tech might need some tweaks depending on the system.
If they got this on any console the total number of players could skyrocket.
But also keep in mind right now there aren't really any "online only" console games.
Nintendo Wii FTW?

hmm, whenever i see a game on both console and pc... pc seems to get the short end of the stick most of the time since console is where the money is, sadly. Although console couldnt really get updates like pc
Im not a console fan boi like the origional poster.
If Guild Wars was ported to the console market and players were allowed to play together on the same network, I'm about 100% sure I would leave Guild Wars. The player intelligence pool is already shallow enough with the game having to subscription fee.

I don't know if what you typed was real or sarcastic. I'm really hoping it's the latter.

Having played 5 subscription based games i can tell you im 100% certain, that average player intelligence and monthly fees are totally unrelated. there s idiots everywhere! LOL  (and my "worst player interaction" experiences weren t even in GW heh.)

Ugh, can you imagine the amount of button combinations that it would take to even play? Square + Circle + Triangly + Square + Circle = one called target.
Plus I can't see targeting being very easy, and than there is the fact that we would get a huge influx of bad pugs...
It could be a good idea for the future, if somehow someone made a really intuitive control scheme.... but I just can't see it.

I think it would work well on a console. Its just a shame that console owners would have to put up such an elites attitude from the PC owners

Simultaneous PC and Console development always leaves the PC game getting dumbed down, as they have to design for the lowest common denominator.
Even doing a dumbed down console port later (which is the right way to do multiplatform release) leads most development teams to take shortcuts, and hurts the game design in the end, since they know they'll be porting it to console later, so they take shortcuts on the PC version to make the console porting easier.
Guildwars is the best-designed online game ever made. (I'm not saying it's the best online game ever, as that is clearly debatable and depends on your tastes, but it's definitely the best-designed one, hands down.)
Who would want to mess with that?

If anything it would only work on the Nintendo Wii. All other controllers are way too limited. It would be a very good move though.

Ugh, been mooted before, but I personally would be totally against GW being released on console. The quality of the game and players would suffer quite badly as a result.

I could only see this getting recognition on the Nintendo Wii. On the plus side, each new console is going to have USB Ports so therefore, you could also play with the traditional keyboard and mouse!

I'm not a "console fan boi" I just choose not to judge a game's quality by the medium that plays it.

oh please, it IS a very good idea, but i find young spoilt children end up on console games, and cant work the computers, so the computer games tend to be more 'mature' and console online games end up madness, i played an online game at my friends house, and i pick up games quite quickly.. so i killed quite a few people, on an hour and a half session last night, so how many times did i get swore at?.. 58.. (swore at? correct grammar? sorry, i can never get that right o.O) and this game (can't remember the name, it was a shooter) didn't even particularly have lobbies/towns, it was just join a game and play, more swearing occured DURING the games, with people sitting behind fuel barrels swearing their heads off shouting 'WTF HOW DO I STAND?!'.. try pressing a button.. '**** OFF I TRIED THAT'.. only trying to help.. 'STFU BIHTC'
im sorry, but i think the bad community outweighs the fact it'll be alot more popular, so im going to have to say no
If they could figure out a way to make controls work, this could be an option.
The Wii is integrating streaming content, so that solves that problem.

ya awsome idea but theres the thing with controls and totally reprogramming the game to work for the console(debugger would do that i think though) and that 2+GB file that is in the GW folder on your computer so that would need upgraded on xbox and you would need big memory card for every other console..and the thing that WingspanTT said about the different companies NCsoft would have to get permission from to do that and ...so much stuff that it almost isnt even worth doing.

It would be nice to play an MMORPG where you don't have to pay to play (no names but you know which ones)
I must have at least another 10 mates who are wanting the same thing, I love it on PC but want it on the console too.
Please with a cherry on top could you release it or maybe Guild Wars 2?
Please release a version for the Xbox 360

I hate consoles. They dumb down games: Insert disc, play on TV.
Yargh.
But Anet has (unfortunately) already stated that they are really considering consoles.
Let's just hope they do not have time fur such unnecessary things.

Because insert CD, wait for auto-install, play on monitor is a much more complicated procedure.

tbh making a GW for DS or any console would be a waste of time IMO but if they hire some more peeps and dont slow down the PC version for it then sure, I'd get a copy.
oh yeah and my post before doesnt make any sense now but in the quote it said for Wii when I posted it

Thats impossible as I didn't suggest it for the Wii. GW for the Wii would be semi-lame.

your right about that one. I think they out number GW 5\1 in Battlefield 2.
I would love to see GW2 on the xbox360 and ps3. and i think a.net would be really dumb not to hit gw2 on the consoles. not sure if GW 1 would do that well.
Argh, I don't play on Consoles. Quit at Gamecube with buying em.
Stick with the Computer, it's what everyone has.
I do have a DS, but I think I won't feel my hand anymore after a GW DS session using the stylus.

Please no. I have the fealing it will begin as a port from the pc version, but in the future it will end with a console to pc port.
But that's just my opinion as a veteran pc gamer
