View Full Version : Improving the use of Factions and faction points! Balth, Luxon/Kurzick, and Xunlai

I'd like to see more use for faction points, in addition to another faction.

Balthazar Faction could do with a few improvements.
*PvE rewards, for one - See http://forums.gwonline.net/showthread.php?t=406616 for more on that topic.
*Unlocking armor/weapon skins. Spend 5k faction to get one piece of a specific 15k armor set for a specific class. Still 15-25k for one set of armor for one class.
*Purchasing pre-build slots, like the options we get when creating a PvP character. Hopefully these could include armor/rune/weapon choices and appearance, so all that needs to be done is pick a name. Instant rerolling.
*Purchasing skill-bars. Like above, but mostly for PvE characters. Be able to purchase a slot in which a player can store 8 skills and their attributes and instantly switch their build in town.

Luxon/Kurzick Faction have only one purpose, and thats money. Technically there is controlling the towns/outposts, but this requires too much effort, there's very little incentive to do so, and there are plenty of players in the elite missions that didn't have to faction farm or pay to get in anyway. To that end:
*PvE rewards other than turning in for materials, which is synonomous with turning in for cash. Again, see the Balth faction for PvE rewards thread for ideas.
*PvP rewards - Unlocking Luxon/Kurzick armor skins using the appropriate faction rather than using Balthazar faction for this.
*Change how elite mission access works. There are plenty of ideas on this matter.

And also I'd like to see a Xunlai faction added. Storage is very much a big issue among players and adding Xunlai faction could solve this and make it a gameplay mechanic at the same time. Ideas:
*Purchasable general storage slots. Each one is more expensive than the last. Let them be purchased in 5k portions if each slot ever costs more than 10k. Infinite storage, even it if takes forever for the next slot.
*Purchasable customized slots. These slots are only available for the character active when the slot was purchased. These slots are always a fixed price but can only store customized gear.
*Purchasable Holiday slots. For the storage of holiday items. For the storage of holiday equipment, like gingerbread shields, dragon masks, special items like pets, ect. Some gear can alternately go in the customized slots also, but not all of it can. These ought to be about the same price as customized slots, but account-wide. Not meant for other items like presents, candy-cane shards, ect.
*Purchasable material storage slots. Basically what's going to be added now, but players have to purchase the slots with faction first. They can also re-purchase storage for a particular material to be able to store more than 1 stack, but this becomes more expensive. It might come in minor/major/superior versions, capping out at 750.

Comments? Additional ideas? Any suggestions for a Zaishen faction? :)

Intresting ideas, but how exactly would you earn Xunlai faction?

I do want to see more factions in future Guild Wars games. (Especially ones regarding Gods as Balthazar is the only one to have faction so far) :)

Different types of faction would be cool, maybe they would have special quests for the Xunlani faction, and enough that it wouldn't be repetative for those who want to get a ton of different slots.

It would be great to see the faction used for more, I really like the armor idea too, spend X faction and get a piece of 15k armor.

Just for clarificaiton, I'm not suggestion that faction can be converted into armor. Rather, I'm suggesting that faction unlocks the skin for PvP character creation.

As for how to earn Xunlai faction, possiblities include turning in collector items to Xunlai agents, doing quests, participating in special events, uncovering map percentage (since they're there to support explorers/adventurers), and I'm sure people can think of other ideas.

This thread: http://forums.gwonline.net/showthread.php?t=409589 includes a great example for a way to earn faction (Xunlai or some other faction) as well. It encourages players to help others through the mission and gives plenty of options for ways to earn Faction. Specifically, running missions one already has master level/completed&bonus to help along players that need it.

as long as Balth Faction can be used to keep a PvE char going in PvP, i´m happy. getting skills, armor, weapons, constantly changing runes and mods... all that stuff needs funds, and Balth Faction doesn´t do the job.
