View Full Version : A possible problem in the future?

Hello all,
I'm not a regular poster but I just wanted to see what the community was thinking about the following:
Lets assume every new addition to GW adds 2 characters. New additions are released every 6 months. The problem I can see with this in the future is that as the number of versions of this game increases, the number of possible character slots and combinations will skyrocket.
Some may see this as a good thing, but I get fairly attached to my chars. To teh point at which I've decided to leave my 6th slot open for whatever I wanna try in PvP.
I shudder to think that in 4 or 5 expansions (crosses fingers this game dont flop), I will have to take a swarm of characters through a huge pile of quests and capping runs.
Not complaining about new material, as I will gladly eat it up with my main 5.
BUT. I hate to think of the mindless repetition of running any additional chars through the same story.
Thoughts? Comments?

This has been argued into the ground in the past. We'll just have to wait and see what ANet does.

Looks like (not confirmed) that each chapter will feature 6 core + 2(?) new professions. So Rit and A get left in cantha while 6 core professions are joined by 2 new "flavor" classes in Chap 3, which are replaced by 2 classes in Chap. 4 and so on.
I don't think there has been a word about adding two new classes for every chapter as well as that we will get new character slots.
There could even be the possibility that Chapter 3 will be an Add-on to either Faction and/or Prophecies.
Making an announcement about players being able to buy charcater slots ("summer") makes it even more likely a new Chapter will not add new slots.

I think they'll stick to adding 2 slots for linking. I look at it this way:
I'm an owner of Prophecies and Factions. Now, A-Net is going to tell me that there will be nothing new for my Ritualist and no more character slots in Chapter 3 to try out the new professions (2 confirmed)? Why would I even consider buying it?
I also doubt any new chapters will add on to existing chapters. They will all be stand-alone products, and adding on to an existing territory would make it feel even more like "just an expansion."
If the release of the new chapter coincides with the availability of character slot purchases, you have your answer davepesc.

Actually, the character slots should be available in the summer, while chapter three should be out around November. I don't think that the two are related at all.

Then how about giving people the ability to buy character slots which means you don't need to include any in the next Chapter, even for merged accounts?

And people thought that the outrage over the material storage was bad . I think that ANet will continue to offer character slots with new chapters, since they are standalones, along with new character classes. I honestly don't think that this is that big of an issue.

Sure agreed there!
Can you imagine what the forums would look like if that happens? 4+4+4=6 FTW! It will be very, very funny - probably because so many people that threatened to quit will once again be buying the next chapter!
It's not a big issue, I agree there.

So true. I'm sure in six months people will be complaining that purchasing slots messes up the order of their characters, or something equally as important.
