View Full Version : Suggestion about Chapter 3 (to shut up about it ;) )

Well, it begins again. Similar to the last preview event for chapter two another one has sprung up for chapter three in a short amount of weeks.
Now, QA is gone at the moment, but we all know if we start creating random "gwen started chapter three posts" he'd delete all of them when he comes back, for better or for worse. So to save him (and the temp. mod) the trouble lets not resort to the random theorizing more belonging to the Community Lounge forum.
Alternatively we could jsut use this thread as a dumping ground. I'll begin:
In chapter 3 Glint is evil, the great dwarf is balthazar, the tyrian pantheon are daedra, and the mursaat are heroes.
It will be known under a second subtitle as "Guild Wars 3: Nightfall, or The GWO Lore Forum was Right All Along"

PS: someone in community discussion speculate that the lands of Elona might have been cursed to stay at night forever (no daylight). I hope that is indeed the case because I think an arabian night theme for a chapter is cool. :)

Well if Elona was locked in eternal night the land would be more akin to tundra and not north Africa. I asume that Elona might actually have a actual day and night cycle for different opportunity at different times.
It could also be a reference to creatures/demons that only manifests during night.

Believe it or not I have a serious contribution to this disccussion :P
If Nightfall does takes some of its ideas from Ancient Egyptian myth as has been suggested, then Nightfall would be a perfect name, as Factions sorta was. Heres the explanation.
Ancient Egyptain myth put Ra (The sun god, for those who don't know) as the top of the list - he was the leader. The egyptians believed that in the day, Ra would ride his chariot across the sky, gazing down on the land of the Pharos. During the night however, he would travel through the Underworld (well, their equivilent anyway - I've forgotten it's name) and battle the forces of darkness. In doing so he would naturally win and a new dawn would rise.
As to the land being in total darkness, it could well be - just speculation here, but with the current professions and their "godly" links, maybe we have to save a god? It may not be an arch evil at all, simply an army bent on his/her destruction.
Then again, it might herald a new gods area added, but thats by the by.
Thanks for creating this thread Ranger - it really helps to just vent. I think that Quintis will probably bomb it when he gets back though :P

its a good thought and it could be right in some regard but they're not going to completely rip off an existing mythology or at least not from what i can gather from the previous guild wars chapters, if they do use this concept itll probably be heavily modified but would give an excellent basis for the name

Even old, wizened, dusty scholars surreptitiously skulk into town to visit the brothel once in a while. Have your dumping thread, keep it in here, and I don't think Quint will mind (which isn't to say he won't nuke it anyway).
Well, Menzies is speculated to be a dark god, so perhaps it's his influence?
A new god in the mix would add some interesting class influences. ;)
I wouldn't say menzies is dark, if anything, he should be quite bright.. being the incarnation of destruction and whatnot..
In fact evil isn't related to Gods at all in prophecy and factions, so it's highly unlikely....
What could be interesting though, would be their views of the old gods, which we can probably find out in the manual...

I'm hoping Elona will be like a lore enthusiast's dream. Grr, I'm so excited! I just can't wait till Nightfall is released! ^.^
To make this thread a bit more serious...
The two new professions (both of them) seem to have a clear connection with the gods, that seems to be a clear indication that Nightfall probably will have something to do with the gods.
Another things that indicate a strong connection between the Elonians and Gods is that the Elonians knew about "Ascension". They went to the Crystal Desert to ascend, they didn't simply discovered that by accident, they knew it and because of that they went to the Crystal Desert.
Did they knew that thanks to a god who told them that?

Well, it has been said many times that there are probably many more gods then we currently know. We could be getting some new gods, but I'm a little sceptical.
However, thinking about it, this could be a cause for "Nightfall" - The Elonian people abandoned one set of gods (Maybe 5 based on the location?) and decided to follow a new set (most likely the old gods, however, it could easily be the other way around - which could explain why so few Elonians came to Tyria seeking ascention.) thus, to some they would be abandoning the "light" or "true gods" - the Night has fallen :grin:

I still think we haven't seen the last of our old friend The Fury, or Dhuum either for that matter. Since the whole thing with "daedra" and The Great Dwarf being with Balthazar ties in with this pretty well, I reckon we'll see some of it coming out in Nightfall, mind, I hope they leave some of it to the observant only, I think finding new mysteries is always fun :)

Hm for me, what really intrigued/annoyed me about the little bit of Nightfall Anet released was the charactor design.
I mean, no one can argue that they don't bear resemblence to the Ritualists and the Elementalist.
Hopefully there is a reason why..

True, and being skins, It is probably here to stay. But it is still the betta. The Rt and Assassin where equipped with the emotes and dances of other professions during the Factions PvP betta. Maybe they are not fully polished yet. But, still...being the actual skin...I think its final.
Anyone else seeing similarities between the Paragon armor and the Aegis shield? It will be fun to see some old art designs come back into the game.
WOW...sry I am just stoked. Lorewise, this is going to be a very fun chapter.

I'm not sure if I should prune it, move it, or delete it. Themonuclear hijinx aside.
I suspect this thread was made specifically to irk me when I returned, and I did get a good laugh out of it, so I'm going to take it all in good humor and simply say that you had your fun.
I don't really see a continuing purpose for this thread, nor do I really fully comprehend the original purpose of it.
Before I close it, I just want to comment that I think that Nightfall may refer to the Chaos Army we've been seeing, and some sort of invasion by them.
