Yeah, Dervish sound really cool. I'll definetly make one. But what is scythe?
Yup... I shall be making a Dervish and after getting owned many times in RA trying to figure out how to use it I shall give up and make a Paragon

You ever seen the grim reaper. The long thing he holds in his hand is a scythe.A long stick with a sharp cured blade on the end

But what is scythe? Death's/Reaper's Weapon of choice

I'm more interested in the Paragon, but since I'll finally have enough character slots (assuming we can buy slots by Nightfall's release), I'll be making both. Dervishes certainly seem to be the better looking of the two

I might make one. Yes they seem cool with a scythe.. reminds me of my childhood and village where i grew up ...and... fields of grain.... and meadows ... and how grass would pile when cut through with a scythe.. hmm yea im definitely gonna have a farm character featuring Dervish
(on the other hand, i cant stand that Devilish will have 'embodiment of god' skills.... geez....)
Im more interested in Paragon too. Love the name. And look seems to be Titan/Pharaoh one.
wammo that has hundred blades a nonelite.........remind me again why Hundred Blades IS an elite for warriors.....
I'll probably make one for the sake of scythes, but if their playstyle doesn't fit mine than I'll probably let one of my casters use scythe as weapon for show :)

Yes I do believe I will make one, it may take a bit to learn the style of play to do it to effectivly though, but I will get the hang of it eventually. By the looks of it, they don't look to be tanks with their base armor alone, enchantment AL add-ons may be the best way to tank with them. They do sound fun though, the more enemies around him/her the more effective they become it sounds like.

Definitely Dervish. Paragons look just like Eles in my opinion. Maybe a Dervish/Necro would be cool.

(on the other hand, i cant stand that Devilish will have 'embodiment of god' skills.... geez....)
Keep in mind we don't know what that means yet. As far as we are concerned, those could mean only that you will get the same benefits you can get by giving an offering to one of the statues of the gods.
(For example, the statue of Lyssa gives you +10 energy and hexs on you end 20% sooner. Grenth's statues make all your attacks steal 3 health, and Conditions on you to end 20% sooner. Melandru's statues give you +50 maximum health and +10 armor against elemental damage.)
Maybe that's just what it means, and not that we would, say, become a giant burning titam that takes only 1 damage per hit, makes all nearby enemies burst on fire for 10 seconds, and always does critical hits.
(If you follow the estereotype of the dervish, the arabic soldiers that fought in the Crusades against the Europeans, they were supposed to be nearly fanatical to their god - while that's a estereotype and therefore is wrong, I think it makes sense to have the "divine" ability with the Dervishes. If anything, I think a team in Elonia would often have a Paragon acting as a general and Dervishes as his soldiers.)

Naturally, if not but to try.

Anything that is realtively melee I will be making, I plan to make one of each of the new chars for Ch3!
Also just a petition. I have no slot to play one next weekend. Can we get some pics going next weekend! Please grab the pics and show us how they look in action!

Im going to make one, scythes love it, it reminds me of Gundam

At a guess, sycthes r gonna act a bit like a mix between hammers (2-handed, high-damage) and axes (triple-chop/cyclone axe/attack speed).
From the initial renders I'm going for a dervish (the full robes don't appear on any other class), and I'm gonna make either dervish/paragon or paragon/dervish for the skill unlocks.

Yeah, I'll make one. I'm intrested in this transforming ability.
Although it'll be sad to see all these "Xx Grim Reaper xX" walking around... trying to be tanks....
I can see them becoming the new assassin(in a sense that nobody likes them because the n00bs give them a bad name).
Im going to make one this coming weekend, But when the expansion itself comes out, I;m not sure if i'll have another one.

I'm definitely going to make a dervish. Melee is too fun to pass up, and AoE melee even moreso.
If only I had a free character slot for the preview weekend...

I'm up for making a Dervish over a Paradon because I don't want to drag my Warrior through all expansions using roughly the same skills. Having another Melee class is a great idea.

Don't know yet.
I'll make a Paragon 1st and see what people's reactions are on Dervishes. They look slightly better than the ninjas (but haven't seen them w/out hood) and I expect them to be more popular as well because of AoE damage (if the holy trinity Tank/Nuke/Heal is still valid in Nightfall).
So I haven't decided. Let's wait and see.

Think Hundred Blades+IW... then think betas. And think along the lines of "fix overpowered stuff in betas," and there you have it.

I think i might make a dervish and paragon i have enough spaces. But I like the Dervish, but the paragon is a caster and i dont play casters much, my ranger is my most used, then my warrior, then my elly, then my sin, then my monk.
im going to create a dervish, i read about them on wikipedia, they are somekind of priest who dance to get in contact with the gods.
So thats what i like ^^ it actualy reminds me of a ritualist who uses god powers instead of spirit powers

I'm more looking forward to creating a Paragon myself, I never was a fan of melee. (Even with a Lv20 Whammo, it's true.)
Gotta love 'em spellcasters! (Bar the fact a Paragon shouts..)

My character of choice between the 2 is Paragon for the moment... Seems more like my playstyle...
Plus, I find the Paragon looks more appealing, strictly from an aesthetic point of view...

After Char slots come out for purchase ill buy 2, and if Nightfall comes with 2 slots which it probably will, Ill have 10 slots, so enough for every class.
Of course im gonna make one, and a paragon. I just cant wait til this friday
And then after making one, going stright to the priest of balth. and look up all the 150 new skills :cloud9:
Scythes make my day anytime.
AGREED!
would dervish also come in a black cap and mantle:tongue: :propeller::scratch:

I personally am very excited about the Dervish.
From what I have read so far i've gathered they are a melee class that uses a scythe to attack multiple targets (The Barb's Whirlwind from D2 anyone???), and they use protective spells. This excites me because the assassin to me, failed as a melee character. They are too weak to take the hits they need to, granted they arent supposed to tank, this i know. However a melee class should be able to survive a decent spike. The Dervish i hope will be sweet. Maybe make a D/W and use the dervish protection with warrior sword/tactics or whatever. Cant wait.

The only thing I hope that dosen't happen is that we see 10,000 Dervish/Paragons and 10,000 Paragon/Dervishes. The preview on Gamespot made it very clear that they are opposites in play style. Dervish: At home in large groups of enemies. Paragon: Warning: Not for use in the middle of a battle. Some specific builds might work, but I think that it might not be a good profession combo.
Then again, this is just speculation, a group D/P's might own together, useing mass attacks on one target and buffing each other forever with Paragon shouts.

where are you people getting this info about dervish/paragon?
I'll be making a Dervish, as I typically enjoy brawler-type characters. I also enjoy an occasional bout of reckless mayhem, and as this seems like the AoE counterpart to the assassin, it looks like fun. But I doubt I'll take both classes on a single character like I did with Factions; Paragon might actually be a nice secondary for my ranger, especially if those party-boosting skills are affected by expertise.

I'm gonna make one yes, I can't tell you when, maybe i have to play one in PvP.. but im definitly gonna make one ;-)
Leaning towards creating one but only to see the skills, not for long term use.. I plan to turn my Ranger/Warrior in a Ranger/Dervish  .

I wonder if the scythes for the Dervish are going to be similar to Kamas - and be short scythes instead of your grim reaper harvest-type. They could end up using the same base models as the Assassin and just change the skins... just speculation on my part - again I can't wait for this weekend!! Someone had some concept-style art with long scythes but they had the gold colors of the Paragon on their costumes, so we'll all just have to see unless they release a few more images before Friday.
I bought the Collector's Edition of Factions and am very glad I did; even though I ruined the back of the mousepad rather quickly since I didn't know it was a sticky... love the art book and go through it fairly often especially since I'm not even close to beating the game [if you didn't already know I only get to play frequently when I'm travelling for work]... really looking forward to getting the CE for NightFall in October and telling the family to not worry about getting me anything else for Christmas because I'll be busy trying to beat all three games...

I so agree... I personally feel there is no room for balanced skill sets/fighters in this game. For example, I had imagined a R/W to attack at range with a bow and then close in with a melee weapon - I NEVER see that happen and I think some of that has to do with how fast most PvP is, and how quickly people want to get through missions, etc. You attack, you support, or you debilitate the enemy with little mixing on the same character.
I want to see Paragon/Monk or Paragon/Ritualist, and am definitely going to mess around with a Dervish, but I see most people exclusively using one or the other exclusively just to try out their skills; and trying the mixes when there's a PvE preview.

Dervish is the best thing that happened to GW in a long time , at least I hope it is ;) ...
IŽd hate to kill one of my characters just to get a gree slot to try them out in teh PvP event but if I have to my Mesmer is probably going to the grave :(
Dervish , Dervish , Dervish ...
... I wish i had a Dervish ;) !!

Maybe. But I think Scythes are going to do other things. I think there will be some Cripple+Bleed effects or skills from those weapons; or they will have some new Conditions before too long - like:
Severed Arm - target is unable to attack for [n] seconds. Target is Crippled for [n] seconds when Severed Arm ends.
