View Full Version : need a gvg degen build
ill post up the build tomorrow when im not so tired and got around to shacking it, the one character im undecided on is the degen character
i was thinking of a n/me with tainted flesh as elite, and conjure phantasm etc, but was wondering everyone elses opinion
basic build:
w/a - hammer
w/e - shock axe
-undecided-
me/mo - MoR, draw, diversion, remove hex etc
e/mo - water+support(thought could work well with hexes)
mo/me - boon prot
mo/me - boon prot
r/me - crip shot(if i decide not to go with degen then this would be water ele, and the other ele will be air...)
thanks
well since your basicly doing the basic balance build...I be more worried about tactics then adding in something that you can't conpicate for. Tainter is excellent but don't think he is omgf pwn. Make sure you are throughing around enough hexes so that water ele won't be wasting his time. The major mistake of alot of guilds is leaning on water ele hexing power when the two monks your facing are boons/prots. Even worth when a mesmer brings Expel hex....

degen faded out a while ago thanks to everyone running 1-2 healparty spammers. its lost a lot of effectiveness.
1-2 heal party spammers don't help much against real degen..believe it or not dumping 15 energy when a taint necro only needs to use 5 energy is a losing battle....

5 energy across 8 people...which comes to 40...........
then it has to be cast even more or those who lose their enchantment, whether from duration ending or having it stripped, just to cure the disease.
the regen of your energy more then covers it. Its not like spamming 10 energy for an 1 minute. Why do you think that taint builds of well of profane(25 energy) and rotting flesh (15 energy)
so any actual real advice?
i'm perfectly aware of all those things, but not about a degen build...
Please don't tell me why i should run a degen character, and just give an effective one ^^

Our guild is testing Tainted Flesh on a third monk, who would also have skills like draw conditions and contemplation of purity (Contemplation of purity works great with a 5 energy, no recharge, skill like tainted flesh).
our ele would take the monk utility, im looking for a pure degen build

You could try a Mel's Arrows Ranger. I don't like Tainted much in GvG because usually, their casters won't be close enough to their warriors to spread the disease. Then again, I don't paticularly like Mel's Arrows rangers.
isnt melandrus arrows more pressure than degen, personaly i think that they can be quite useful, but from our experience, it just seems the build missed that tiny bit of confusion and extra damage that degen would provide...

Generally, most builds don't have just one degen char. If it's a degen build, they go all out with 2-3 characters with stacked hexes and conditions. A single degen char's hexes will just feed their monk's Ihexes, you need to have enough stacked on them that they can't simply remove them.
Also, a pressure build is a general term for builds that try to overwhelm the other team's healing. Pretty much every build in existance has that goal in mind, including degen builds. The only exceptions that I can think of are Spike builds, which try to bypass the enemy's healing, and crazy ganking builds.
Like I said, I don't really like relying on a Mel's Arrows ranger for damage, since one Extinguish will negate all of it. If you're looking for a third character, I'd try putting in a Sword warrior with 'Charge!', with Shock, or Hex Breaker.
Another suggestion - Go with the Air blindbot instead of the Water ele, since the Cripshot may make the Water ele's snares redundant, but mainly because you're rather lacking in warrior hate.

If you want to do degen, you need 2 secondary monks with Scrouge healing. It'll help destroy their HP spammers.
Secondly, you want to ensure you have alot of degen, I'd suggest a Ill mesmer, a assasin and a ranger if you are serious about dealing loads of degen; 1 character won't cut it.
Tainted/rotting is an amazing character in any build; after you know their monks are semi struggling - throw rotting and watch them cry  it's not that great at the begenning of the match, more of a momentum thing.
Degen is a form of pressure (there are two forms of offense in GW, spike and pressure, and it's certainly not spike).
There are plenty of ways of doing it, and some suggestions have been given in above posts, but the bottom line is only you know exactly what you want. Try thinking about how skills work together and design something which fits your purpose - you don't have to try to slot in something someone else thought up.

Question: How many people on your team do you want to rely on for support?
do you want a Standalone GvG Degen Build?
A Degen Build that has backline support?
A Degen Build that draws from synergy skills within your team?
Or a Degen Build that requires other teamates skills to even work?
