My initial guess would be Photoshop. I don't even believe 75 Flames of Balthazar have been made in game, let alone bought (I'd figure, since being a new item, they'd be expensive).

Medallions go for 50g (give or take). 1 * 50 = 50g

50 Medallions are needed for 1 Flame. 50 * 50 = 2,500g

You'd need 75 to unlock all the Dervish skills. 75 * 2,500 = 187,500g

If he's trying to unlock all Paragon as well, that's 150. 2 * 187,500 = 375,000g

Now, I'm guessing there's about 75 skills, since they try and give all classes 75 at first, so those numbers are rough.

As far as I know, if you unlock the skills now, they won't be unlocked when Nightfall is released (and you purchase it, of course), so why would anyone want to spend so much gold when it may be going to waste.

That's why I personally think it's a Photoshop.

Of course, the easiest way to prove otherwise is to invite them to your GH, challenge them to GvG (do it solo, so it's 1vs1), and let them use all 8 skills in their bar. Then repeat until you've seen all the skills used. I'm sure many people are up for testing this. What about HeavensX?

Given my experience in graphic design, I'm going to lend my expertise here.

First off, to the OP, it would be greatly appreciated if you would release an un-compressed version of the picture. If you fail to do so, I will have to rule it by default as a photoshop job for the following reasons:

1. Behind all text vital to the image (Skill names and the word "unlocked") is pixilated blur. Usually this is definitive evidence of the word being added after-the-fact, or altered.

2. In a few instances, the word "unlocked" does not line up with the ones above or below it. Taking a straight line down the side of the "unlockeds" shows this. (Note: I am not talking about the places where the OP cropped and pasted the s.s.'s onto eachother. There are others where there should not be any.)

3. Behind the "Heart of the Holy Flame" skill description accidentally left in the photo, one can faintly distinguish the words "unlocked." However, in the middle, where there should be one, one is missing. Close zooming and shapening proves this.

4. Miscellaneous other small errors in interface and level design.

Again, the OP can redeem himself and prove all those above points wrong if he chooses to release a high-quality version of the pic. Otherwise, I rule it a Fake.

(Other Note: The claim of Balthazar Flames being used to unlock everything rubs me the wrong way. There are 59 Dervish skills. Iirc, there are 7 elites in the Dervish skill line. That makes 73k total faction needed. He could have 10k faction saved up. It is possible to aquire ~5k in the 3 hours he had of playtime. That leaves him with about 60k faction to go. To unlock the rest with Bal Flame faction, would require 60 Balthazar Flames. It requires 50 medallions to get just one Flame. That means Three Thousand Medallions would be required. One gets 5 medallions per RA/TA win. That's 600 wins in RA/TA (impossible). Either he was VERY lucky in finding people to buy those medallions off of (150 platinum total spent), or this is a definately a Hoax.)

In addition to Tarutaru's Photoshop rebuttal, there's also another simple way to see that it's a fake. On the Dervish forum page, mouse-over the forum title. This gives a preview of the OP. Since the OP is a picture in this case, it gives the name of the link to the picture instead of text. The link name for this one is: http://gaminghax.com/uax.jpg.

You get more for HA wins. So if you and your guild go into it and own(not hard if you have a decent guild) in 3 hours time you have enough to unlock the skills. Plus the guildies could always give you their medallions...heh.

No, some people just have a lot of experience with web design and photo-manipulation. And if somebody wants to prove that somebody else is lying through the use of forgery, they're going to pull all of their knowledge as proof.

And if you knew where that last quote comes from, you'd know it's just sarcasm ;)

Therefore, and I hope I'm not jumping the gun on this, I will be sending a pm shortly to a mod to close this thread, as I see no further use in it.

However, I would like to revive some decency to this otherwise defunct thread:

Would the general community benefit from me posting a complete guide on how to spot a fake or "hoax" post? Because with my expertise in the matter I would be quite willing to write-up a detailed thread on the subject. Thoughts?

the pic is not a fake. if i had access to a computer that could play GW , i would post high-res pics, you photoshop "experts" should know what compres sing to a .jpeg format does to a picture, the only "editing" that was done to the pic was resizing from 1280x1020 to a smaller size so it could be posted on teh forums, and combining about 3 different pics of the skill list so it would fit into 1 picture. but i can assure you the pic is not a fake, i spent about 40 ectos buying Flames, if you had seen my character in great temple (buying flames PST) i was spamming for about 2-3 hours buying flames, ive been on these forums WAY longer then you have, i really have better things to do then make a fake pictrue and post it.

I'm sorry but I have to defend the OP here. I've seen a few occasions on this forum where people jump to the conclusion that an image has been photoshopped, sometimes its warrented, but as soon as someone shouts photoshopped it seems to be a necessity for everyone else to follow suit. Not to discredit anyones photoshop abilities but I'm taking it at face value and I really dont think the OP photoshopped this or had reason to. As soon as your in the mindset to nitpick its very easy to pick out problems where they dont actually exist and I think this is one of those occasions.

Its perfectly reasonable that someone could have unlocked all of those skills using Balthazar Flames if they had the determination to do it. That is in fact one of the reasons anet added them,to ease unlocking during the event.

Honestly I think if someone was going to photoshop a picture they would spend alot more time trying to make it look pristine. If you really look closely at the backgound behind the picture you can still see the menu's completely intact underneath the text. Aswell as character names, healthbar, map, etc, it would take alot of work to keep that as is if you were going to change the text, there's really not much point in going to all that effort. The OP even has the skill discription covering the unlocking text, which would be very hard to do. As for the pixelation its obviously from compressing and saving to JPEG, I do that to every screenshot I take just so it doesnt take up half my hardrive. I would take a guess here that the OP used Paint but I'm just jumping to conclusions there.

Now THOSE are real pics. Completely authentic, no editing whatsoever.
I retract my previous statements about the OP's thread being a hoax.

However, here are a few choice words for you:
1. If you're going to make a post of a resonably big accomplishment, expect there to be scrutiny. Now, I completely understand not having access to a computer, but, to everyone else it appeared like a one-time-poster who wanted some glory-time. You need to understand that, considering the circumstances.
2. Your being registered on these forums longer than I have is no indication whatsoever of you having more "credibility" than myself. I could equally state that I have more than twice as many posts as you, or that I have been playing GW longer than you, but neither are relevant to the conversation. Registration date on a forum is a non-issue, and quite frankly bringing it up is a little silly.
3. Your original post in the op had every indication of a fake photoshop. The fact that you saved it as a jpeg does not really compensate that much. Jpegs do distort, but only ever so slightly. The fact was you saved it highly compressed, which caused the alterations that normally would be blatant signs of a fake.
4. I'm still slightly questioning your post time. Under the OP, it states a post of 3:41 AM EST the morning of the beta preview event. Iirc, for EST the beta event did not start until 3 AM (12pm PST). Hence, unless there was some sort of mix-up, I did not see 40 minutes as enough time to buy all of the medallions or flames needed.
5. Please stop putting quotes around the words photoshop expert. A few of us are. And all indications from our collective insight ruled the original pic as a fake. I simply ask you to stop complaining considering that you were the one who decided to post a highly-compressed pic. We appologize for the confusion, but it wasn't our fault.
6. I still plan on writing and creating a "how to spot a hoax" thread. Not only for people to tell if what they're seeing is real, but also for people who want to post a big accomplishment to see how to ensure that there is no question as to their achievement.

the points that were brought up claiming it was a "fake",
* The domain it was hosted on
(i guess people can determine a fake off of the server i hosted the pic on)

Okay, since you don't want to give it a rest, I guess I have to dignify this post with a response.

1. I was not "jumping on the bandwagon." I simply looked at that picture, immediately downloaded it, examined it, and came to my conclusion. It was only after that when I discovered a bunch of other people had already posted coming to the same conclusion. We were all perfectly justified in our thinking, as there were many tell-tale signs of a photoshop job (which we now know to be compression errors).
2. I don't have much of an ego. If you talk to my friends or guildies, they'll tell you what I'm like. I'm usually very laid-back and ready to have a good time and joke around to make the game playing more fun.
3. I never said I couldn't do it. Anyone could, since Anet now made buying faction possible (which I completely disagree with; imho if they wanted to give people the opportunity to unlock more than they should have merged the double faction weekend with the beta weekend). However, I don't like the concept of just buying away all the new skills. Typically, as I have done in the past, I unlock skills slowly but surely, try them out each one by one, and see what combos I can come up with.
4. Your list of our conclusions is so over-simplified it's not even funny. Actually go back and read our comments, please.
5. I'm not saying I'm a photoshop expert. However I do know that I am very proficient in image editing, and have a job currently as a graphic designer. So I know my editing.
6. You have no reason to be offended. We (at least I) appologized and I retracted my statement. However, as I've said before and I'll say again, we were completely justified in our conclusion. And failure on your part to produce a high-res version or make a single response only fueled the conclusion. Now, we know it wasn't your fault that you couldn't access a computer, but the previous point still stands: we saw no response.
7. Fine, so you hade a *few* hours to buy all the flames. I still have my doubts about this, considering how few players were on, and that people really didn't start marketing the medallion items till later on that morning. I believe you, but I'm still skeptical that you could find that many people willing to sell to you when practically noone even knew they were even getting medallions yet.
8. Want your achievement recognized? Yes, you accomplished something, and you were probably the first to do it. Congratulations! (Although I lack to see the great feat or effort in simply buying all the faction for your skills. Now, if you had managed to earn all the medallions that fast through battle, THEN I would give you a cookie).

Would the general community benefit from me posting a complete guide on how to spot a fake or "hoax" post? Because with my expertise in the matter I would be quite willing to write-up a detailed thread on the subject. Thoughts?

Yes umm how about in the future you don't make claims that you either contradict or outright disprove in your posts.

2. I don't have much of an ego.

Oh?

Okay, since you don't want to give it a rest, I guess I have to dignify this post with a response.
Because with my expertise in the matter I would be quite willing to write-up a detailed thread on the subject.

I would find more but I have to go to work. But really, please stop being egotistical and an contradicting, just because you have a job as an image editor does NOT make you an expert in any way. You may be for all we know but if a 17 year old(me) can tell you have a large tree stuck halfway up your *** with the word EGO on it then I'm sorry if i don't take you seriosly.

Actually here, Im at a LAN Room (pc방) right now, and ive taken pictures and uploaded them, high res (1280x1024), in their original .bmp forum
too all photoshop "experts" please, PLEASE tell me these are fake.
photoshop "experts" , "fake pic"?
pfft.
PLEASE PLEASE tell me these are fake.

before saying anything to other pple here who say the picture is fake i suggest looking AT EVERY spot they said was fake and then think again about how real it actualy is and then put yourself in our situation. You unlocked those skills so fast its hard to believe, giving such a LOW quality picture and very bad made aswell. it only ask to get these kinda replies.

and i totaly agree with
My digital-knowledge-penis is bigger than yours."

OK, I change my opinion. I think it's real and that you guys are just jealous that he unlocked all the skills?

And he does other things that GW, so that's probably why he couldn't post back in the first 2-4 pages...

I think it is apparent by this point that the OP's pic was a fake. S/he has failed to respond but once in this entire thread to defend him/herself.

Thoughts?

are you crazy? HeavenX has been posting like every other post on the first page...

I don't think it is fake, Its pretty easy to unlock skills anyway (Plus its possible to have 10k faction before this event started in reserve so thats a headstart) Then all the flames of balthazar can help (You can get alot even in PvP rather quickly if you get into a good group) And my pictures normally look like that when I need to compress and cut things up (Since guild wars screens are huge)

But I guess the only way to know would be seeing a picture or two without being changed.

This entire thread is a riot of e-egos. "My digital-knowledge-penis is bigger than yours."

ZOMG no way mine is bigger than yours

Copy and paste this into Paint. Zoom in on the (Unlocked) text.

Nice try my friend.

whaha.. naa it was ur nice try that failed. He had to do this ya noob! how could it fit on one picture else?

Please tell me that you're joking. Nothing is more obvious that you CANNOT fit the whole thing on one page. I was not meaning for you to look at the incredibly obvious page splitting, I was intending for people with even half of a brain to look at the (Unlocked) text AS I SAID in my post. So, there was no reason what so ever to call me a "noob".

PS: Ignore Lists are ftw.

It has been established that there was a mistaken assertion and the problem has been corrected. Now let's all play nice, because at the end of the day that was a miraculously speedy achievement.

Congratulations HeavensX, well done! You're all set now for the PvE weekend and beyond!

Discussion's done? Looks that way. Thread closed, folks. I better not see this kind of behavior anywhere else.
