Guild Wars Nightfall takes place on the continent of Elona, Land of the Golden Sun. It is a nation comprised of three great provinces; The island province of Istan is the home of a vibrant people who live among the monuments of an ancient empire. The military province of Kourna, under the command of its great leader, Warmarshal Varesh, hugs the shores of the mighty river Elon. And in the rugged lands to the north, the Princes of Vabbi rule from their opulent citadels. Elona is a land of wealth and power, protected by its champions, the Order of the Sunspears. In Guild Wars Nightfall, Elona has fallen under the shadow of an evil, outcast god. Against the encroaching desolation of an infernal realm, the people of Elona will need more than a hero to save them, they will need a hero to lead them. . .for nightfall is at hand.

Great job getting us that information Leese, thank you!

So we know where the name of the land comes from--the river Elon. I can't wait to see these "monuments of an ancient empire", my lore sense is tingling.

It also appears we may be right about the forces of Chaos too.

Woo, now I'm excited.

Oh, quite cool! Nice find and thank you for posting it.

Another island to explore too from the sound of it. Can't wait (but trying).

So it appears that there are going to be three areas for us to explore at the very least, my senses tell me that we may venture into the realm of the outcast god (judging by popular opinion around here I'll go with Dhumm). It does mention his infernal kingdom, maybe some mix between the Underworld and the Ring of Fire Islands?

I wonder about the phrase "nightfall is at hand."

Is this another Searing? Perhaps with a training area as before, then "Nightfall" begins and the outcast god's minions attack... and the country comes under eternal darkness or suchlike for the "post searing."

(just got reminded of the biblical "plague of darkness" that struck Egypt)

Well, just spec. It would be distracting if an eternal darkness scenario did happen but you could still go back to the pre-nightfall area.

I'm wondering about the non-lore aspects hiddin' in there.

Against the encroaching desolation of an infernal realm, the people of Elona will need more than a hero to save them, they will need a hero to lead them. . .

Will this mean that the story line and game mechanics change allowing you lead/cntrol certain NPCs for example? Huge strategical battles where players with the highest rankings can serve as generals over the lower level players who serve as grunts? Hmm that would be fun :) I wanna command the army of the evil god B)

quick point. We know that it's pretty much 100% likely that a ToA style entrance to UW/FoW will appear in Nightfall. The minions of Dhumm and Menzies both reside there already. If Nightfall brings either of these two to a greater story role, it seems possible that some inconsitencies might arise from the co-existence of the UW/FoW related stuff and the Nightfall related stuff.

"Nightfall" reminds me of "Pitch Black", u know, all the bad stuff comes out at night and hides in the day (there still might be pests like devourers hanging out in the day). Whichever god is getting involved might be doing the classic "permanent night" reign of evil scheme (at worst Mr Burns blocking out the Sun with a giant shade).

 As long as it doesn't feature Vin Diesel's likeness dervishin'/paragonin' about as a possible henchie - sounds good to me.

Anyhow, back on topic...

Perhaps with the phrase "nightfall is at hand" it isn't so much a presear/searing matter but, possibly, trying to prevent such a situation that's gradually creeping across the land? Just a thought.

Maybe it's a marketing tagline rather than a plot pillar?

Well Factions already has shown that it was possible for a player to have the lead on several non party related NPCs (The Last stand early in the game gives you the lead on a dozen soldiers, fort aspenwood lets you order 2 companies of turtle cannon carriers to the attack) as such it just might be that ANet has extended on this to allow the player to lead attack groups.

What this information does for the Lore is give us the indication we'll have new ruins to analyse and I already wonder about what it will show to us. We have likely indications the elonians ame from Elona but were they the founding people of the three occupying the territory now?
