Odurra the Illusion henchman in Elona has an interesting piece of dialogue. Does anybody know of whom she is speaking?

it could possibly be the mesmer in pre-sear ascalon, i cant think of the name. the lady mesmer that is a bit west of ascalon, she is standing right by the theater.

My first thought is Althea (the mesmer in pre-sear) as well. It seems to fit, as she is running a theatre and Odurra says they spent years at the theatre. Also, the banners at Althea's theatre are blue and gold, the colors of the Vabbian building in the preview videos, even though maroon and gold seems to be the typical Ascalonian colors. The only problem with this being that we know Althea's father is Duke Barradin (Althea's ashes in Duke's Daughter quest). I suppose that Odurra and Althea could have been raised by their mother in Vabbi and their father either was Ascalonian or moved there, which could be why Althea wanted to go.

Lady Althea... I doubt it is she because she was a daughter of some noble guy in Ascalon, so she obviously didn't go there.
I've been puzzling over this question too. Hmmm... Anybody have a screenshot of Althea that we could put side by side with Odurra and compare to see how similar they look?
We shouldn't restrict ourselves into believing that just because Odurra is a mesmer, her sister must be likewise. Since she mentions that they were both educated in a Theatre and Library, I will rule out the warrior and ranger professions. However, it's still possible that her sister could have been an elementalist, necromancer or monk.

I agree, she wouldn't have to be a mesmer....I would asume she would be wealthy though, as they were raised in Vabbi, and Odurra certainly is dressed very nicely. Are there any other well to do women we meet in Tyria?
I did think about Evennia as a possibility, but then went back and looked and her skin is much darker than Odurra's, so it couldn't really be her.

there is the other mesmer that you meet right out side when you first leave ascalon city, she gives you the quest to kill a river skale tad

As mentioned, it needn't be a mesmer. Let's think more abstract, also, try to draw comparisons to people with similar name structure and phenotypical traits.

Well if we're thinking outside the box; the names don't have to be similar...Emi and Chiyo are twins but their names don't have a lot in common.
I still don't think we can rule out Lady Althea just yet either
It could be Duke Barradin traveled to Vabbi and met a lovely lady, they fell in love and had two daughters...unfortunately, though he ultimately had to return to Ascalon. But maybe Odurra felt that was a bit too much info to give a stranger the first time they spoke.

It's also possible she's no one we've ever met.

why not?
makes just as much sense

Not necessarily... They may not be similar by OUR linguistic frames of reference, but perhaps in the Canthan language, the pictographs for Emi and Chiyo are strikingly similar. Or perhaps one means 'Sun' while the other means 'Moon'.

perhaps Althea is an adopted daughter of barradin

Exactly. We are trying to create complex connections just to make her the sister of Althea because we want it.
Althea is the daughter of Duke Barradin.
Now we make up a story around Barradin's wife being from Vabbi.
Suspicion and associations are not evidence. Odurra is a Mesmer and her face is a bit like Althea's, but well...
I would also like to quote Quintus again, this is just the crap a D&D author like Jeff Grubb would pull - not thinking too much about the possibility if this would work really well.

Jeff Grubb is not the only one writing the story of Nightfall the devs do have a say in the story.

King Kull, if I didn't know better, I'd say you are Grubb incognito =P You know an awful lot about the guy, and I appreciate you bringing that knowledge to the table.

My first guess would've been Althea though. Since the illusion henchie also says something about the Theater. And if I remember well.. that's the place where Althea hangs out in Pre-Searing.
And as they both studied there it's more likely they studied the same things.
She also mentions a Library. I do believe that a Krytian guy in Old Ascalon says something about it.
Perhaps they were sisters, perhaps perhaps, there is no real evidence at all.
It's just filling in some words what might be the case.

Hmm a library could that possibly be pointing towards the white mantle/Mursaat?
Quintus Antonius
25-09-2006, 17:47
Probably not. Libraries tend to be multicultural. I don't think they are talking about the Temple of the Unseen on the D'Alessio Seaboard because it talks about them actually exploring the library, as so far as we know, no one actually made it to the Temple (sacraficed).

Still it could be used in nightfall if the mursaat were to somehow turn up which for some strange reason I keep thinking is it possible she would turn up with them?
Quintus Antonius
25-09-2006, 19:54
The Mursaat tend to be xenists. That is, they are biased against other races. They have no problem controlling others, but they tend to be very self-righteous. So if the Mursaat show up, it's going to be in a blaze of glory, maybe a last suicidal charge. I doubt they will just casually stroll in and be like "Oh hey, we found this girl roaming Ascalon, is she your sister?"

Well the last members of the dying group could have came into elona seeking a place to settle, gain more members and try to invade anet said nightfall would tie up loose ends I believe this could be one of them

Well...that's possible, but there's no evidence that that is the case, so it's just making something up to support your argument...just like all other speculation.
Notice that she says she and her sister spent years at the theater and library before she travelled to Istan and her sister went to Tyria (the continent) which means her sister isn't necessarily near a theater or library and that she could be anywhere on the continent. Could it be her sister is the leader of the shining blades? After all some people mentionned she looked elonian

true, evennia does have the elonian dark complexion
although in many ways, shes closer to althea than anyone else, both deal with the theatre, both are mesmers, both deal specifically with illusion (note the skills althea gives are illusion and inspiration), they even wear similar armor (odurra's is a retexture of the noble attire)

I guess my ressurecting a quote about a certain founder of the lore forum making the now laughable claim that evennia is from Cantha way back in february is not enough to make people understand the wild speculation involved in the evennia-elona connection.

Yup, Eratimus did speculate on that in the Compendium.
But just to clarify, I'm the founder of the Lore Forum, Eratimus was just made first moderator  I was the one who actually lobbyed and convinced the admin to give us the forum

Off Topic: With the Jeff Grubb connection, its fairly easy to see his mark on GW - he did write a fair few of the novels for MTG, and if I'm not mistaken also some of the flavour text. Deep and Mysterious, but usually hits you in the end saying..."Duh, I knew that...why didn't I see it all along?.."
Good reads by the way :P
Oh and, I doubt we'll be forgetting to give credit where it is due anymore :P
On Topic: As for her lost sister, because our Tyrian/Canthan characters may not actually have access to Elona until the land after the preview (can't quote it off the top of my head) so she may actually be one of the "Troupe" which we seem to follow around, and could well provide the Tyria/Elona connection.
Think Factions....
