View Full Version : PvE Content Worries/Hopes

I'm just a bit worried that the game might be softened up, easier to play by using small stupid mobs of enemies in PvE. Giving new players no reason to become better players in the process, giving way to less teamwork and more "one man army" feelings. Kind of like what was the problem early on in Prophecies.

That's why so many people had a hard time in Thunder Head Keep, it was one of the first missions that required specific roles and team work, not just everyone stacking enchants and pretending to be god, lol .

I enjoy the difficulty level of Factions, it requires that for the most part you play your role, and you learn/need to play it well. I just hope that Nightfall in the early to middle areas of the game requires this teamwork and increase in player skill, not in the endgame too far down the road. Players need to practice teamwork; they can't just develop it at the end of the game, if they have played for weeks without it.

I am at least hoping that Nightfall will be a middle ground between Prophecies and Factions. Anyone else have any thoughts on this? (Note: I’m not trying to have a Proph vs faction discussion, but a discussion about what you hope the gameplay in PvE Nightfall will be like.)

Stop being worried for nothing. The game is not even released yet. :)

Apparently the game is not that easy. At a press conference, journalists had to play a mission where you have to move into a minefield without triggering them. And if you are not quick enough, the guards start to use a catapult against you.

Two experience GW players have spent 4 hours without actually finishing the mission.. This comes from the French Press Nighfall presentation.

Well from Gaile's comments, she feels that nf is definately pve focused. I assume that means that its not only longer but also much more finely tuned in regards to the challenges presented. Personally i would like to see 1 mission where there is an area affect which prevents you from casting spells on allies. Might actually teach a few pugs about the importance of a self heal and a res sig.

From the preview I wouldn't say NF is overly easy, annoying pop ups while you are fighting and huge areas with lots of mob and you have to travel through them over and over again makes it seems even a bit tedious :/

I'm hoping for interesting missions, where you get to do more than just kil lots of monsters. (Vizunah square got really boring after awhile). At the same time I hope the missions aren't too confusing to do. A medium level challenge is best, though medium easy and medium hard are fine also.

From the descriptions the missions sound fine, maybe a little on the complicated side.

I'm hoping for something like the 'use of hero training' where you stand back and command the heroes to do the work.

maybe with areas that require certain Heroes, you'll have to lead each char down a different route while you look ahead.. each having to do a part in their own route to help the others along..

That would not be challenging, it would be aweful ! I don't have the time on my hands to spend it on 4h missions, I might not even complete. 1h should be max for any regular mission or quest (I know FoW/UW stuff can take longer, but you do not have to do them)

The mission might not take too long when people figure it out better, 4 hours either meansthey had to restart a few times, or they just couldn't figure out what to do to get through it.

possible reasons for spending 4 hours ona mission:

perhaps the players were presented with about 20 levers in front of them.. unfortunately they'd skipped the cut scene which tells you what order you have to pull them in and they'd just sat around trying as many combinations as they could.

being from Tyria the players couldn't read the big elonian letters saying 'PULL'
on the door of a temple and they spend 4 hours trying to push..

elona is a big place.. they'd taken a wrong turn at a sand dune and only when they found themselves popping up from one of the afflicted's tunnels in vizunah square did they realise something wasn't quite right.

one of the players was AFK. and the party leader insisted that they waited for him/her.. not knowing that the player had fallen asleep at the keyboard.

Actually, I think people had a hard time in THK because it was one of the few areas that cannot be run through. A player could be run from Ascalon to Droknar Forge and there to THK (or even from Ascalon to Sanctum Cay, then run through the mission, then run to Augury Rock, then run in some of the missions there), but there was no way to reach the Ring of Fire other than doing THK, and it could not be run.

The fire trap in the first mission caught me and my team offgaurd and killed us..., had to start the mission over cuz we got careless LOL

I hope to see more traps like that in Nightfall hehe

A minefield mission? Sounds fun

I'm also hoping that all missions are about as easy to hench as to do with people. Hopefully henchmen controls will take care of a lot of this. Heros with likely more powerful skills should also help with this.

(for examples of henchman comparisons, doing the wilds or minister cho's estate with henchmen is similar to doing it with people, while doing Ring of Fire or eternal grove become a lot harder because of positioning/pulling issues)

Crystal desert already has flame traps, check out the thorn devourers in Thirsty river. :)

There's a way to finish it quickly ;) *giggles* Find me in-game next week if you want to rush the game :p lolz.

You're in for a treat :D Go buy GWN CE, you won't regret it :p

Wait till you see "that" mission.

Even if some of the missions in NF resemble the challenge and teamwork required to finish Thunderhead Keep then I'm all for it!!!

Also, I wasn't a big fan of those "Mhenlo must survive" missions in Factions. Hopefully we don't see too many of those.

are you implying the ingame content for the CE differs from the normal game version?

I wouldn't be so sure on that, it can be Tri-Run, its not easy though.

1 Evasion Tank Ranger
1 MM
1 Bonder

Evasion Takes All the hits, MM does all the hits, and Bonder keeps the king from falling down.

i did it with my guildees to help a fellow Assassin :) i was the bonder

I'd like to know too, if only to justify my purchase of a Nightfall CE when I could have availed of another distributor's promo of getting both Factions + Nightfall SEs for the price of a NF CE...

I'm worried that the PvE game will be geared towards the best players, thus making it impossible for the casual gamer to solo anything at all.

I hope I'll be able to at least get off the starter island without having to read several build and strategy guides or ask guildies for help.

Imbril

I don't think you'll have too much to worry about, Meagen :)

During the WPE, the starter island was pretty straightforward, but it definitely helped to know how to control heroes. Fortunately, one of the quests told you exactly how to do that.

Absolutley. I am hoping there are far far fewer "keep npc X alive" missions in Nightfall. Factions was jammed with them.

Please, please, please no more of those.
But.
There needs a place for the advanced pve'ers to be tested, and have rewards at the end. For Example, the Fissure of Woes - Obsidian Armor Crafter.

Have a Urgoz Longbow drop, then stand around for an hour selling it...not my cup o' tea.

I really want these missions to be as hard as possible cause I love challenges and I also hope they are not runable cause thats how we get people who havent got a clue on how to play the game.
