Right. I'll try to make this relatively short (no promises though)

Today, 5 of us got bored and were sitting aroudn the GH on our rangers talkin about nothing. James, sarcasticaly, says let's do a GvG match (we had 3 ranger heroes added), now w were pretty bored so went 'eh what the hell why not' so, we went, and tried a match. Needless to say we got owned, it was expected as we were just messing around. Well this sparked Adams and My interest. So we we then said 'go again with a bit more realistic build?'

Asked the guild got 8 people interested. Jess and Adam decided to monk so their reply to 'bring whatever you want' was reponded with the following. (keep in mind this is us screwinbg around partially, but with a more organized teram)
(I may be wrong on some builds)

Monk (RC Prot)
Monk (ZB)
Mesmer (IW) <- we were screwing around keep this in mind.
Mesmer(E-surge domination)
Assassin(whatever it is sins run)
Ranger (cripshot/runner)
Ranger (burning arrow/interrupt)
Ranger (barrage/pet) <- we were screwing around keep this in mind.

Now, we actualy WON this match, flawless too,. I have no idea how but anyway.

Next Match we went against the rank 37 guild (no idea the name) of course, we got owned. We also got owned the next two matches as well.

Now here's the point of the story - after screwing around for a couple hours, it got several people interested in actually DOING GvG, this is what made me appy this day. So while we got nothing out of it we did get people's interest. So tomorrow Adam, Myself, And a couple others are goin to try a serious build(no IW mesmers =P) and no screw around. Hopefully we can get people to come and have the guild be active in GvG as well as the normal PvE stuff we do (FoW/UW and the like)

Ok I'm done rambling, thought I'd share my random experience here.

And while I say that we got owned, 4 times. It was very much enjoyable so if I can't get my guild to start, I'll join one of the alliance is active in GvG and I'll guest for them because I rather like GvG =P

GvG is way more fun than you would think, epecially if you're used to HA or PvE. Good luck.

yeah my friend comes along and I get to ride with his groups meaning that while I'm still unranked it doesn't matter, I enjoy HA when I can go, and I like GvG alot. we played a couple matches today we lost the first 1 at VoD barely, wont he next match and the third we got horribly mauled lol. But all good fun. This as the builds if your wondering..

If you have any problems or questions ask someone in a high level guild a question. I have and for the most part they aren't jerks plus they know what to help you with.

My guild just started getting into GvG over the last couple months, and it's probably my favorite part of the game now. We're still fairly noobish and have a lot to learn, and our start-up times are atrocious, but once it's going it's a blast; even losses can be enjoyable.

A very good template for GVG is the standard balanced. Two warriors, 1 mesmer , 1 ele, 2 monks, 1 ranger, 1 (Ele or mesmer).

The best way to run this kind of build for beginners is to have one of the midline characters calling Tactics, preferably the ranger because when he interrupts key things he can call push and his split surviavability is high meaning he can call splits - chain flag runs etc.

Look for beatdown vs control article on team iq.

Have one of the warriors call spikes. The warrior with less utility should be the caller - ie basically things that require less concentration.

Call spikes from 7 - so that mesmers can shutdown etc.

Good luck and have fun. And yes when the pressure is off of HAVING to win the match is when it is the most fun for me. Not worrying about when to cast or spike can be a great way to get people interested. Just relax and enjoy. Being with my guild doing something we love is the best part.

pst.. we did 12 gvgs yesterday, won some lost some.. but were together having fun. Yes we had a team build.. been gvging off and on for over a year together. Really hard for us not to do team builds now. Finally we had enough and went to a alliance guilds party where we had lots of fun there, just being guildies.

I would love to join a guild like that. I've been practicing in Ra trying to keep as many people alive(which is what Ra is for). And I've even got a team(not true the mesmer, warrior, and ele helped) as far as 18 wins. But a nightmare spike team just rolled us over in 5 mins, starting dual spiking after they learned they couldn't kill anyone in one spike anymore.

Its not an incredible build, but it looks steady. But the most important thing in gvg is tactics. Even if u're outpowered at the flagstand u still have a good chance to win, if u just do the right thing. And whatever u do use ts or vent u cant reach a decent level without it.
