View Full Version : [MERGED] The Guild Wars 2 Ideas Thread

I know that GW:EN is not even out yet. People may think that it is too early for GW2 ideas and suggestions. However, given that Anet is in the process of fleshing out the details and implementing GW2, I think that now is the best time to suggest ideas. Despite the long list of things, ANET people already have, I hope that this thread will serve as a community effort either add ideas, concepts etc that ANET may have missed, or reaffirm that ideas on THEIR list are in-line with what the community is looking forward to in GW2. That said, what would YOU like to see in GW2? What ideas do YOU have? Post them!
I have a few ideas which I will post after people have posted what they want here first.

Let us not, thank you. :sealed:
I'd like to see some better guild management options, like titles (i.e. PvP Officer etc) and control over officer powers like recruitment and promotion.
Oh, and stop making the recruiters shell out for the invites, make the new recruits pay for their own. It would serve to limit guild-hopping for one thing.

agree.
GW has a pretty good record on minimal griefer activities like kill-stealing and PKing. The griefers have to resort to quitting and afking and other double-edged activities.
If you want random PvP duels etc, make it opt-in, not opt-out. Give the winners some money or xp, not other people's items (that they spent ages trying to get).
Oh, god. I can imagine it-warriors monks camping around the armory shop.
back onto the actual thread..
have normal hair and facial hair (plus any other customisations) unlinked at the character creation so we can have that ever so manly beard (or other facial feature.. scars.. makeup.. etc) and choose what hair we like.. maybe have a nice RGB colour selection.

GW has a pretty good record on minimal griefer activities like kill-stealing and PKing. The griefers have to resort to quitting and afking and other double-edged activities.
Actually...
Unyielding Aura {E}
Animate Vampriric Horror
Animate Bone Fiend
Blood of the Master
Heal Area
Verata's Aura
Blessed Signet
Contemplation of Purity
12 Death Magic
10+1+3 Divine Favor
8+1 Healing Prayers
Join a PvE team; build up minions. Then release all of your minions at by CoPíng off Verata's, causing all of your minions to wildly attack your teammates. Of course don't heal them or help them . Do this in the middle of a semi-difficult battle and res everybody with Unyielding Aura then let them dance to your strings :D Very fun if it works but some good pugs have a tendency to live...
For rangers just use Frozen Soil, Edge of Extinction and Energizing Winds... combine with Equinox and Nature's Renewal to just kill of everyone (on your team :D) add inthing sliek Primal Echoes and Predator's Season for fun ^.^ though it does mean hoping that the Rit does not pack Feats of Souls else your dastardly plan is ruined. On the other hand most PuGs don't evne have a Rit :D
So no PK'ing and griefing are still possible.
i can make a list for what i want to see:
-add a way to dual agains someone in pve area's, this way pvp and pve is more connected.
-give more freedom in terms of what your story will be, if i want to join the white mantle, let me.
-have facual effects in emotes or better yet, be able to put your mood in a facual expression.
-make the character creation options more expanded, so i dont pick a basic face but i build my own build from scratch.
-give maore emotes then we now have, i like to have /faint for like when someone /burp in my face.
-show the energy level in the party meter, so everyone can know if that player realy didn't look(for when you died) or that he was just out of energy.
-make the fighting animations show more action, all of the attack skills, even the one with energy, give just a lame basic animation.
-give the music a more action tone in battles and do it on a way that you will realy feel adreline your self, now i atleast just hear some music, doesn't do anything to me.
-make super attacks for pve-only, this is, ofcouse, an attack with ether a verry high dmg rate or have a strong effect. one attack per profession
-a mini mp3 players, for the ppl who dont have a super computer
-have some fonts to choose between, so you can add a little uniqueness in your text.
-have some fun items, but they must not be bounded on events, you can buy them anytime.
-altough GW2 is having armors that are not for a sertan profession, i do think that some special armors must be an exclusive prof set.
-give some visual effects in sertan moves, like an after image effect when you run fast(like the assasin) or stones around you bursting up when you use aftershock.
-be able to use a bit of walljump with sertan professions.
could continue but i nead to keep some behind for sertan projects.:azn:

So no PK'ing and griefing are still possible.
"minimal". and your example is pretty much "double-edged" since they have to put their time in to get the set-up but then they don't get anything from it other than the grief, no corpse looting, no xp or gold, and most missions are relatively short anyway (so it's hardly a huge set-back anyway).
For suggestion:
Don't make stupid amounts of playable races, unless we get a huge amount of character slots making combinations of race+primary class is going to be a pain that kills PvE-character build flexibility (as you'd use up all your slots, but then not be able to change either race or primary att).

- Allow a way to get to Orr (Taking advantage of the Swimming).
- Keep Areas like The Underworld instanced.
- Add new options for Guilds eg Ranks,Equipment with Guild Symbol on....
- Allow story branchs.
- Give a bigger Ignore List.
Think thats all i want to see.
And picking up other players loot? i dont think thats Anets style....and i'm not exactly sure why you would want this in the game...

More action-packed animations in combat, something like this(Sry for the low quality but it isnt worth spending +20min on a single post):
http://img443.imageshack.us/img443/6636/actionpackedanimationsdn0.gif (http://imageshack.us)
Of course it doesnt have to be assasins only just any melee based proffesion.
- I would like to see animations similar to my gif.
- Kinda borring to watch a W/A/D running toward target and then just begin hitting target with 1-2 animations, I would love to look at different animations everytime i go to combat.
Could be anything push, stab, kick, hit with the sword from both up/down instead of just slashing the sword left and right.
Backflipping! If you jump towards a wall or tree etc. and you jump again when you hit it, you will get yourself from the wall and backflip! For what use you ask? Absolutly non! But it would be cool.
And even then it'll probably be just a number which is just as fast to get to as it currently is hitting L20.
I would like it if they make the display of level be more subtle, like having ranks
would have more of a proper rpg feel if they could make a stricter naming system
I don't look forward to seeing stuff like "W/Mo99 IIII pwned IIII"
What I would like to see:
-When creating the assassin please study the Stalkers of City of Villains. I loved the methods of that archtype, so fun. Note though to those picking watchers out there, I don't mean copy... but merely a rough idea on how to create an assassin.
-Instance zones should exist within dungeons, homes, or certain areas to prevent camping.
-I want to see much of the old world.
-More immersive combat
-Perhaps action buttons? (IE - by double tapping a direction key you perform one out of many forms of maneuvers such as tumbles, barrel rolls, dives, etc.)
I sup[pose just look at CoH/CoV and study those methods and then form some of your own through those examples. :3
if you're talking about moves then(and i'm not saing this as fanboy) look to some anime's, they have some sweet moves that can be used in GW easely.

-Give me ability to unlock armor, so I wont have 5 set of armor sitting in inventory. Maybe put a drop down list so I can choose which armor I want or an armor storage guy like the hat festival guy.
-Would like for GW2 not be a supply and demand market for crafting material.
So wood would not be 100g cause someone hogs all the wood and sells it back for it to only be 10g a day later.

- Give a bigger Ignore List.
In a way, it's a shame that somebody does request a bigger Ignore List but that nobody has requested a bigger Friends List.
So here's my wishlist:
-A bigger Friends and Ignore List ^.^
-Interactive environments -- and no, the Maguuma Jungle does not count.
-Good balance, at least equal to GW1
-The Tengu as playable race :-)
-make a HIGHER LEVEL CAP
-give special skills for special combos (spceial W/Mo skills, special R/E skills, etc.)
amen, I've always wanted a N/E animate stone golem/construct stone golem combo..
as for the backflipping.. my assassin did that to a tengu once.. he moved to me.. I did one of the 'sins tripping dives.. and rolled over the top, only to turn round and start fighting normally.. I've liked sins since.
What I would like to see in GW2 is a campaign structure of some sort.. gives everyone a common goal to look to.. kinda bad they are doing away from that from the orginal game..
Companions I guess being a new Hero in the game I would like to see each player have up to 2 - 4 of them and be fully customizable, class, armour, gender, name, etc.
Jumping in a MMORPG is not really a good idea it makes it more of a FPS which would be bad for Guildwars as a whole.. if I want to play jump around in a map I would play a FPS game..
they should incorporate the trageting system like the orginal game as well as the free hand setup they are planning it will keep GW vets from getting frustrated.
I would like to see models with a skeletal system for char for emotes it would be nice to have emotes look more real...
Companions should be part of the party bar so they can be monitored. also I would like them to pick up drops for the player they are with unclaimed or ones assigned that may have been overlooked. and in town they can walk up and present the player with items they got.. basically a unclaimed items that is more realistic. if the player doesn't want unwanted stuff they can tell companions to ignore it.
When a player sits down companions should sit too and not just stand around like current heros and henches.. when you take a break so should they.
I like that GW is getting into all the Holidays this year lets hope GW2 continues the tradition.
with the random maps idea companions can help the player find a exit if lost.
I know this sounds crazy.. but AI with companions I would like to see pretty advanced.. responding to text commands to anything that could be imagined.
for example lets say a player want to be alone.. instead of flagging a point.. just tell the companion like "go away" or "leave me be".. that would make the game really fun text chatting your companion to control it. there can be a host of idea with more AI..
Active Day time Night time and weather cycles over the whole world....
Day and Night would conform to the RTC on player's computer..
weather can be determined by servers. with options to disable enable set etc.
basically as far as the rest of the game. keep it true GW style...
and I am still glad that Anet has not fallen into the subscription trap.
I know some may hate my ideas.. but these are some I would like to see..

That doesn't explain much. If you ask me Alt and Ctrl work fine.
push alt and try to click on the storage in a bussy town, you'll still have a full list of players to click on.
The Pointless
10-04-2007, 20:26
Oh yeah. So... OK, make sure holding Alt disables highlighting player chars then. Sounds right, right?
In GW2 I would love to have just one char creation page, you make the char you want then choose a profession. I'm tired of every profession looking like it was broke out of a mold. I just think since it says your profession above your head anyway it shouldn't really matter if everyone looks the same for each profession.
Another thing that really bugs me is the lack of content in the actual guilds. I think they should be fully customizable by Guild Leaders. Like they should be able to name the ranks within their guilds and choose what those ranks can do within the guild. Like letting regular members offer invites to the guild, letting officers change cape, allowing more ranks than just officer and member.
Real Guild Hall improvements. You buy land and a basic building. You add houses, expand buildings, get guild vaults, ect. Think how neat it would be to come into the Guild Hall and see a new fountain in the center of your little town or what ever.
Now this next little bit is going to sound crazy, but hear me out first. Slaves. Yes I said it. Now let me explain, I thought it sounded crazy the first time I heard it too. Think about it like this. Most guilds cannot afford the thousands and thousands it costs to do the basic upgrades we have now. If every time your guild won a guild battle you "captured" a number of the people you defeated and made them mine or farm for your guild. They could have a daily income they bring in for your guild, not in gold, lets say in guild points or something. All upgrades could have a guild point purchase price and a gold purchase price. This would allow PvP only guilds to get upgrades as well as PvE guilds. I know this would never be implemented, I just thought when I heard it, it would allow the PvP guys who don't farm gold to get the same stuff we PvEers get.
Relationships? A lot of us play with our wives, and have our whole families in the game, it would be so neat to establish in game families. Wouldn't have anything to do with actual game play, but it would be fun.

But a lot can happen to that gold in 100 years. And why would you want to do that, other than gain the upper hand a little unfairly? Slightly?
well, i think it is something realistic, maybe something about a storage accound that is in your famaly for generations.
and they already said it, they want to reward the loyal players with something extra in GW2, so this could be fun.
and if they just change the prices and ammond you can use,(like making it possable to have a 1.000.000g) your gold would mean close to nothing then.

for ideas on charactor creation
they should also look at this one too as well there is another two books on charactor creation one for high levels and other detail one but i can't remeber the name of the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons book.

My personal want is that anet keep the assassin prof in gw2.
Also i would like for there to be some way that the different races will be useable for all profs. so no, char make horrible mages because they have +25% melee attack speed. if they want something like that the player should be able to decide if they want +25% melee attack speed or +25% spellcasting speed. For the evil bunnies it could be choose between +2hp regen or +1energy regen. then the races would still be balanced AND different.

:fortuneteller: I hope the Hall of Monuments will include our festival hats along with our mini pets.
It will be totally cool if we had more things to do other than combat related stuff. I know there are lots of titles to try for and loads of map to explore but all if not most of it requires combat....urm, yah I knew this when I bought the game but I just am saying right now I WISH for there to be more.
ANet has produced for all of us a fantastic game and I am sure they will continue to do so in the future for GW2.
Firstly: I don't know if this has been brought up before or not. I haven't seen or heard anybody else ever mention this kind of idea, so I thought i'd try to make a thread about it.
Now here's the idea:
How about some sort of in-game voice chat channel system?
Stay with me.
All good guilds already utilze voice chat, but are required to use something like Ventrillo or Teamspeak, a third party program. It also requires a server on said program. All members in the guild/party who want to use the chat need to have the same program running in the background and have some knowledge of how to use it.
Now, with my idea, Guild Wars 2 would have its own voice chat system in the game, with a mappable "press to talk" key. And instead of requiring each participant to join an IP address, they simply click some sort of "enter voice chat" button, say on the party window. You don't have access to voice chat if you aren't in a party, so there's no public voice spamming in towns. And you aren't required to listen to people in a PUG if you choose to not join the channel.
Another feature I picture with something like this is the ability to tell who's talking. Imagine you're in a party of eight people, and somebody asks for something or issues some sort of order over voice chat. How can you know who's talking unless you personally know the people or really recognize their voices? Displaying some sort of icon over the person's character or next to their name on the party window when they're currently using the microphone fixes this.
Anyway, I just thought it would be a good idea to really improve the teamplay aspect of the game. By allowing players an easier, more effective form of using voice chat (especially in large GvG matches for instance) instead of requiring players to use some third party software in the background would probably improve a lot of things.
Anyway, that's just my idea.
Try not to flame me too hard.
Scutilla
11-04-2007, 06:57
It's been suggested before, but would be fantastic to have- no more relying on TS or Vent.

11-04-2007, 07:33
Ya if they had the party window then had a couple of icons on the party window to symbolize: join channel, mute channel, and have a button for mute mic. this will be wat ppl use the most. and probably have a lil icon next to ppl's names to show if they have muted their mic or are using a mic

It would be nice, but bandwidth isn't free, so it's one less burden on ANET if the players manage their own voice chat services. I suspect a similar excuse is used for guild wars utilising fan-forums instead of having an official one (forums have the added cost of moderators too).
If anyone has any better theories, let me know, but that's my view on the topic at the moment.
Note:
I believe the prophecies collector edition came with some teamspeak stuff (the program, a code for a months worth of server?).
purple llama
11-04-2007, 08:04
yeah the proph ce came with a month of teamspeak server and a headset.
personally i'd be annoyed if there was in-game voice chat... not all of us are able to use it (respecting other people nearby, bandwidth, lack of mic, etc.) and I think it'd just be another level of discrimination in PUG groups.
Might be ok for PvP where this discrimination already exists, but I see no need for it in PvE where you can use the many tools Anet has provided for communication - pings, drawing, calling...
That being said, I've heard the occasional rumour of them looking at adding it to GW1, so I would not be at all surprised if they put it into GW2. If they do, I'll just hope their claim of being able to play fine solo is also true.

I have a few ideas :
1) Allow dual wielding with 2 single hand weapons (2 swords,2 wands,2 shields,2 crossbows[?] or 2 Spears [!!] ). In contrast holding a dagger with off hand shield/focus.
2) Add in races that appeared in GW which has interacted with human a lot :
a. Centaurs
b. Tengus
c. Forgottens
3) Generalize the skill unlocking mechanism meaning once you unlocked a skill it will be available through out the whole accounts (both PvE and PvP) and not towards individual character (PvE in general).
4) Stadardise dye as normal items so they are available as normal items that can be purchase from merchants.

Well just a quick idea really. What if we could custoize say whether our characters are skinny or large etc. Sort of done simialar to the customization shwon in Tiger Woods golf games although maybe not as deep.
The reason i think this would be good is that currently apart form the height all we really have control of is our face and hair and ,lets face it, not everyone wants a male warrior with a beer belly.

i personaly like the idea, or perhaps make something to integrate ts or vent with gw better, perhaps gw could make a deal with one or both of them to add this but it still requires ts or vent, but you dont have to minimize the game or anything, and it has the voice options like the OP was suggesting.
if they did add this it would save a lot of time and headaches of spamming to the party the ip everytime someone joined or left, and if it was integrated perhaps you could just select an option to auto log you into the voice chat the rest of the party is in, or the party leader could put his server info in and from there the rest of the party just clicks a join button or something
The problem is bandwidth. GW uses, during average ply, not downloading updates, about 1 KB/s per person. Removing the rubberbanding bug would cost them about 0.02 KB/s per person. TeamSpeak uses, depending on the codec, about 4 KB/s per person speaking. So adding voicechat with a decent quality could as much as raise Anets bandwith bill by 400%. Guess there's a reason Ventrillo/TS servers cost a monthly fee.

I'm in a guild that has their own TS server, and I can attest that using TS in conjuction with GW is fairly simple and hassle free. The only problems I've encountered, is that the sound stutters a bit if the game suddenly uses a lot of CPU.
While I'm not entirely against the idea of incorporating a similar function into GW2, I'm not exactly dying to have it either - especially since I don't do PUGs at all.
Being on a private TS server means that the only people I hear, are guild members and guild friends. This is how I prefer it. I'm not at all interested in speaking directly to strangers while I play. If a VoIP feature is built into GW2, it better be configurable to use other voice servers, or filter away people that aren't in my guild. Otherwise I'd rather ignore it in favour of TS.
I can see how a VoIP feature would be very handy for PUG groups though, which is why I'm not against the idea as such. I sort of dread to hear what an in-game n00blet argument would sound like though...
So, I'm all for it unless A) it takes too much bandwidth for ANet, or B) I have to listen to outpost dreg all day long.

I do recall an interview where Jeff Strain said that in game voice chat was something that they were thinking about pursuing in the future.
It's a lot of "ifs" but a probably addition in the future when we have better technology.
a hand-to-hand combat prof, something i've seen manny times before ^^
i do want to see this in the prof, a move restricted skill system.
you got 2 kinds of attacks.
-punch attack, doing the same dmg and has the same speed as an axe.
-kick attack, doing the same dmg and speed as a hammer.
so that meens that when you put a weapon in the weapon slot, you have to put ether a set of shoos or a set of gloves with there dmg rate.
there are special items fir this, this is called the dual funtion weapon and is not only for this one but could also be for other prof's.
they work not on only one attack list, they can take on two at the same time.
so for this situation, you will be able to do both punch and kick attacks, and some skills are made for sutch combo's.(like a move that you kick the head and then turn around to punch in the belly)
just my 2 cents.

Like I said, you would only hear people if you joined the channel, and the only people who would be in the same channel as you are people in your party. You wouldn't have to listen to a bunch of strangers if you don't want to. ANet could go one step further by adding to the Friends window the option to ignore a person's voice the same way you can ignore a person's messages. This way you could be in a party's voice channel and still ignore specific party members if they decide to start being irritating.
For those who have never played either of them, games like Counter-Strike and UT2k4 have built-in voice communication. These games are also free to play online (once you buy them, just like Guild Wars). So unless they have some sort of advantage that ANet doesn't have, I can't imagine the bandwidth strain of a voice chat system would make THAT much of a difference.
Anyway, you claim that using TS/Vent is simple and hassle free. If you think of it in terms of steps: "1. open program, 2. connect to server, 3. run guild wars" then yes, it's easy. But finding a server for your guild to use might prove difficult, and if you decide to set up your own, that requires money. Having guild members keep up with the IP for it is, while not that big of a problem for any competent computer user, still an unnecessary burden. Also, running a program in the background might be too much for some peoples' computers (mine can handle it, but I know there are still some people out there with 5-year-old+ computers.
OK, here's another (guild-related) idea, now that my brain decided to create it it. :undecided:
How about a Gambler's Guild War? Each Guildie puts up items, and the others put up items, gold, and the like.
Kinda complicated, but here's the diagram.
X1=Guild 1
X2=Guild 2
G1,2,3,4=Guild 2 Guildies (1-4)
(A four-on-four)
X1's four team mates put up 2,500 Gold each, so, if X2 wins, each one of the guildies get a quarter of the loot, and get to keep their innings. However, X2 had G1 put in 3,400 gold and the Aegis*.
This would allow G1 to get more experience and more gold, because of their high risk. G2, however, risked nothing, meaning they only get a small percentage of the loot if they when. G3 waged 1,000 Gold, so they don't get as much money as G1, yet more then G2.
G4, lastly, simply gambled 2,500 gold, and his income will is the equality of X1's wagers, so if they win, G4 will get 2,500 more gold, simply.
*=The Aegis's value may either be divided into differnet gold values or be bargained among the winners. (Ex. X1 wins and only one guildie wants it, so he divides the money among them. If a decision is not agreed upon, it is automatically divided.
Sorry. That was long and confusing.
Voice emotes for our professions.
i like it for the ones that use it, but i dont want to hear the entire party trough my music.
as long as i can deny the voices, i'm ok.
I remember being in Closed beta for VanGuard and this was one thing many wanted and others completely did not want. Those who didn't want the system were merely expressing their opinions over the the RP aspect... the idea that looking at a female character and hearing a man's voice disturbed them. I don't get it though because people use Vent and TS and there are plenty of men playing females and vise versa yet they don't complain on ts.
Anywho a system like this would definitely be revolutionary for the most part and a way to filter it would be required. I can surely say I would only use it for Guild and Team chat, other wise I'm keeping it out of open chat if selecting it on/off was even an option (my idea of this would be to make it automatically off, otherwise you wind up with a clutter of chat... it just gets horrible.)

Different trim on athe capes when you are promoted to officer or leader. this could be simple like for a guild member you have the same old blue-gray trim, the when you become an officer you get a gold bar on either shoulder, and a guild leader who has the most formal would have 2 gold bars on either shoulder on a black trimed cape. also i would like the option to make your own cape that is just for you, and have the option to display either guild colors or personal colors. (except in PvP where guild colors are required)

To be able to invite people in your party if they're in your friends list while they are not in the same outpost.
For example, I'm in LA, my guildie is in Kamadan, I wanna go help him and he invites me into his party while I am in LA. I finish up some things and then teleport to him.
I'd also like to be able to see where guildies and friends are if you hover your mouse over their name (like below the option to add your friend to your ignore list , strange option that one :-/ ) as long as both you and your guildie/friend have an option toggled so you can view each other's location. If either of you does not have the option toggled on, you can't see where the other is.
Just a few nice ideas. Coem to think about it , I'd like to see them in the game now :-)

world vs world pvp seems interesting, and large enough that it should have some kind of stat system. The stat system should record all your kills and deaths, and the objectives you have accomplished during WvW pvp for that particular character you have used. Everyday or every week a ladder would be updated to show who are the top players in WvW.
It would be nice to show some recognition, especially when you are playing with hundreds of players on a battlefield. And if you are one of those top players, I think it would also be cool to either choose, if your character glows, or not, or have some kind of special icon or font on your name. The reason for this, is that, when you are playing WvW, and when you see a glowing character in WvW, you can be like “omg, he must be good, and have a lot of kills, or whatever”…It would show some recognition, and another way to be known in the community...
And also, in some interviews, anet said you can play with a party, or by yourself. I think it would be a good idea to have some kind of icon above a character who is the leader of a certain party. I am kind of biting this idea from battlefield 2 and 2142, but I think it would fit well with WvW in gw2.
Speaking oh which...there should be an in game voice chat..instead of using a third party program like vent or ts
humans should be the only class that has mounts :P
I for one don't want to see anything that is for just one race, I want it to be a level playing field for everything. All professions for all races, all races get the same things.
I can't see a char on a horse, so make bigger horses, I was what you guys did to the rhino's in Factions.
I said it in my last post but I really wanna say it again, don't give molds for professions, let us choose the char's look then let us choose the profession that way char's don't all look the same.
To be able to invite people in your party if they're in your friends list while they are not in the same outpost.

A few suggestions for GW2:
I am not sure if different difficulties are going to be part of the game though I hope they will be.
Scale the difficulty not necessarily in terms of higher level enemies, but by modifying the following:
- Synergy of skillbar of enemy mobs.
- The mob composition should be modified to more or less optimally counter a teams composition based on the difficulty that the team has chosen by taking into consideration the primary and secondary professions (if there is such a thing in GW2).
Example: A team of 4 tanks (W), 2 Elementalists, 2 Monks enters on hard mode.
The counter would be to have lots of Mesmers and NEcromancers with anti-melee and interrupt skills.
I don't know if this has been brought up before, but I'd definitely like to see more variety in what we can do. Killing was fun for the past two years, but it's getting a bit old now.
If more variety isn't added, then I'd at least like to see the introduction of neutral monsters to higher-end areas. Part of the reason Pre-Searing was so realistic is because there are some creatures that ignore you. There should be more herbivores in the game world - even the plants of NF want to eat me for goodness sake!
Basically, I just want the option to fight less.

Dealing with campaigns how to sell it gw
I am going to start off by saying my grammar is bad. So I really hope that people get what I am thinking. I have been bottle up allot of ideas. I would like to say that I am deep thinker. I am very creative and out their type of guy. I really want to see GW on top because of the no monthly fee. I love giving ideas to games devs I have written to other game devs in the past to as well. Just to share my ideas because I like how the game is played. These days new ways of thinking is important as well as new ideas.
I think that gw is the perfect model for a rpg game why......because you can keep adding new content to the "game world" that you have already made. Ok let’s start with to days rpg games. Modern day RPG’s are a game but they also have mini games in them right. But modern pc games still do not feel like a "world". The world feeling is missing from the game. Where as a pen and paper rpg is limited less.
Ok to the point, what should anet sell or how to sell their game? what kind of content would people pay for? Well to the average rpg players. How should it work?
Here are my thoughts.
New Continent, seas, oceans, space
Nothing better for an rpg player to explore a world. In must games out. There are let’s say walls or roadblocks. You know that you have come to edge of the game, like an ocean or something. In must games you come to the edge of where the game devs stop the map.
However with GW model a person can keep traveling the world by buying the next guild wars game.
New game
Ok, to make a real world feel like a real world. You need sub games in an RPG. Ok your asking what do I mean> Ok let’s look at today’s RPG games. They have mini games. But, it is not enough to make feel like it is an RPG. Hence there should be full blowen games under the main game to make and RPG. Guild wars model works.
For example.
Racing, in our real world we have sports, racing, etcs these are games that can enhance the rag game to make feel like a real world. Major game inside a major game however keeping the feeling of an RPG game. I am going to give and example from a star wars clip
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Swmsv7795Zg
Ok you get the point I hope
New races
Ok who wants to humans all the time? Lets have a different point of view. This why there is RPG's is to have another point of view other than human. Point of view. lets start thinking different. out side the box. We can explore subject in story with races.
Now story
with guild wars model you can keep adding story, or what i call the main food for rpg games.
Anet should look at what kinds of RPG 's people enjoy.
We have the quests
Then there some people who don't too much story, some story like diablo game.
Then there are people who want a lot of story detail. anet should look at all 3.
however, all rags should have choices,
There should be choice with consequence.........not just hack and slash
A real good game for example
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GPgr4UEwb0
Ok I hope you get the point.
Classies
Ok classies new classies that explains a lot. However I don't believe anet should go the route of *all * mmo's out there...please think a little more rpgish. I mean is make all mages damage dealers. A mage can learn fire magic as well as mesmer magic. If a mage wants to become a mesmer then let that mage Specialize in mesmer mage magic.
All fighters should be somewhat tanks, but give room to Specialize.
These are just some of my ideas

Has it been suggested of some sort of kin inheritance type of system that connects your GW1 characters to your GW2 characters? Like, creating GW2 descendants of your GW1 characters to unlock special skills, titles, achievements, or even items (like a passed down weapon or whatnot). Perhaps even appearances can be unlocked by having a parent in Cantha or Elona.
Perhaps depending on the campaign finished, the descendants can be bestowed with special privileges (special quests/missions/or even firecrackers, I dunno) in certain towns or whatnot.
For the most part, the only thing I'm afraid of when GW2 comes out is that GW1 dies (due to lack of players) or vice versa (since GW2 we don't know how great GW2 will be). I would think that if there were some sort of connection between the characters between the first GW and the sequel (as many others have suggested), it'd be possible to keep both communities thriving.
If someone had already suggested this, please let me know where to look for the idea and the pros/cons against it. I know it might create an unfair system to those who are starting for the first time in the GW universe in GW2... but I think the point I want to make is there has to be some way to get those new people into the original GW and enjoy that too. I don't want to be stuck with 3 standalone campaigns and a bunch of characters that are no longer part of a strong community when GW2 comes out.

Here is what i would like from GW2, forgive me if i am posting anything that has been requested already.
- A soft touch profession (i.e a martial artist), and a time mage.
-The ability for any charcter to dual wield anything. For Example, i am using a warrior, and i wanna use two swords, instead of a sword and a shiled. Also, along the same lines, Two Handed Melee weapons would be cool. I really wish such were available in GW, like a two handed axe or a two handed sword.
- Less profession specific weapons. There are times i wanna wield a sword with my ranger!
-Massive Player battles. Not just things like the current AB, but full scale battles. For Instance: Say i am playing a ranger, and there are two nations that are at war (luxon vs Kurzick for example) and there is word through the village that there is going to be a battle. There should be a NPC that i can talk to that takes me to the site of the battle for whatever side i wish to be on, and there are several hundred other players like me there ready to fight. it would be similar to a large scale AB or GvG, tryin to capture resource points or kill an NPC officer, but maybe also killing a high ranking player in the area or decimating the enemy ranks to a certain number.
- along the same lines as the last idea, it would be awesome to travel with hundreds of other people on a campeign of war. Instead of going through the map on your own questing, what if you were traveling with a large camp out to set siege to an important city, with many other players in it. Depending on te accomplishments of individuals they could be placed in leadership, or if there arent many people taking part NPCs could be interspersed with the human players. Perhaps also the ability to be placed with squads of a few people for organization purposes.
-Being able to run and jump is cool, but what about running up and down or across walls, or rolling or those types of moves. i know there have been concerns that these will make the game more like a FPS, but when the attack system is still set up like guild wars, and it isnt a aim and click to fire type of combat, i dont see how being able to incorperate player controlled movements into the fight the enhance the battle is bad. Here is a scenario
I am a ranger, traveling about Kryta on a mission from Lion's Arch. On my way, i encounter another traveler like myself, who is spying for another city looking to attack Lion's Arch. I decide to engage this foe and stop him from delivering his report by firing a cripling shot towards him.
Spy's Point of view: The game freezes as my arrow flies towards him, and an option appears asking if he wants to stop and engage me, or if he wants to run away. He chooses to stand his ground and fight. Time resumes, and he strafes to dodge the arrow. ( had he chosen to run, a short cinimatic could ply to show him dodgeing my arrow and running away as i stand in disappointment)
I recieve a window that notifies me that he has decided to fight, and since i instigated i have to either fight or run away and hope i am faster than him. He is an Elementalist, so he begins casting a spell that causes burning. I Approach a tree and run up it, firing off another cripling shot as i go, and his spell hits below me, missing me but setting the tree on fire. I could then jump down, or jump to another tree,
This somewhat illustrates the idea of being able to move to enhance how the battle goes. I dont know if my ideas are totally feasable to animate and such, but if so, then that would make many people intrigued.
These are just a few ideas. I hope they get some consideration.

Here is an idea that would make the different races level. instead of haveing racial bonuses and nerfs why not just have each race start the game in a different location? for instance in GWP if you oicked a char you would get to invade ascalon instead of save it ect. just a thought, personally i think racial bonuses are cool as long as any race can beeffectve in any profession.

I always thought it would be cool if the sync'd versions of dances were interactive. Possibily similar to the way the Assassin dance interacts with his spirits in the collector's edition dance. (In the normal version, the assassin cuts the string pulling him up himself, in the collector's edition dance, one spirit pulls up the string and the other cuts it.) Maybe the dance could change depending upon how many people are sync'd. And taking that a step further, perhaps dances from different professions could sync somehow. I know none of these ideas really enhance gameplay, but then again, neither do the dances as they are.
What do you guys think?

The guild I belong to has always provided TS for its members and we have used it while playing all "our" games. I think it has been extremely handy for us as a group as well as great way to chat while in game to friends.
I have hard time typing while trying to beat a boss or complete missions etc., so TS has been great for me however, I don't use it so much anymore...least not until I can afford a better pc with more guts lol.
I think the idea to include voice in game would be very nice but only if there are mods in every channel casue there is always some goofball out there that has to be rude n crude, ruining everyone's gameplay experience.
This will be wars between guilds
There should be a servar were guilds can fight openly (since gw2 will be one big world unlike the lobby system we have now) and take over towns from each other (imagine how wild it would get) After a town has being captured you can loot it (il come to that later) and get people to work for you. Guild halls would be like towns but they can not change hands.
To get people to work for you money would have to be invested at the start of the week on which towns people will work for you geting matrails that can be sold to make a profit depending on how much you invest. You can build new buildings (towers walls houses (to make workers work better) etc
To do the above you would set your guild to Conquest guild
To do the bellow you would ser you Guild To Raid guild
As a raid guild you could attack guilds without declareing war (which costs cash) which lets you attack anybody not in your guild raid guilds can controal towns but not invest so the source of income would be from loot but workers can be turned into slaves.
Slaves dont work so well and can only build and do primary industries (mineing fishing etc) and will run away if ungaurded.
Raid guilds are ment to attack Loot and escape slaves may be useful if makeing a tower or something is needed to hold off a attack
Oh i know this would not work in GW1 so this is a GW2 iddea feel free to add

I thought such a topic would be appropriate since gw2 has been anounced and all.
I would like to see a variety of things. First of is invisibility spells for certain classes, predominantly assassins. This of course would have to go away after attacking or using a skill.
I would also really really like to see the whole pet function redone. I think that every class should be able to tame pets that act much like heros, except that they have their own unique set of skills, instead of taking up your own skill bar. All pets should be different. Certain professions should only be able to charm certain pets, usually ones that would complement the profession. A pet should have to be maintained greatly, it should be fed constantly or it will die. When it dies, a pet should have a chance of turning on its master after being ressurected.
Rangers should have the ability to charm all pets.
Charmable pets should be any beast creature, and not be separated from normal creatures by being green and not attacking unless attacked first. This way there should be dozens of choices for each class. Once they grow, they should beable to be ridden.
The downside to having a pet would be the expense for food, and possibly armor, if it dies your skills would be disabled for a specific amount of time, and it has a chance to turn on you after it dies so many times meaning you'd have to get a new pet repeatedly if you aren't careful with it.

anet wants to provide a more free world which added jumping, swimming and even climbing...right?
well they can also make it more interactive by adding ragdoll physics..
it would be cool if you see someone blown from a meteor shower ...or lets say you are running and the last hit was an arrow to the back..and the way you die is that you still have momentum from your movement and roll on the floor or something...
i dont think i have seen ragdoll physics in a mmorpg/corpg game.

Hey GW 1 is a great game but i thought it could have some more things. You guys probably played Runescape. Yes it is a weak game, but i like the idea of makeing your own armor, fletch arrows and make bows, mine metals, go fishing, the list go's on. I think it would be great if GW2 had these elements. Say fishing, add that in the game, but like RS you just stand there until you caught a fish, BORING. So i say put in fishing but to catch fish you play a mini-game!!! Now that would be cool. Same with mining, say you tap the arrow keys to swing your pick or shovel with the ores you would refine it and then make armor, jewlery, stuff like that. Also wouldnt if be cool if u could hunt deer, rabbits, things like that? Once you killed your game you could skin the animal to get meat, or its hide and sell, or make clothing with it? and with the meat you could cook it and eat it to restore health or energy. Or you could gather plants and herbs to make potions, and you could cut-down trees to make a fire with a spit, or make lumber to build your own house!!! In your house you can make furniture, mount the animals of the game you hunted on your walls. Put your favorite weapon or armor piece in a display case. Sit by the fire. Oh and you should be able to have pet dogs and cats, like mini pets that you keep in your house, and you could have a chess board in your house that you could chanlenge a friend to and other games like it. Also in the outposts there should be taverns were you can have a cold drink and talk about battles with your friends. Or mabey you can box with other people. Or challenge them to a duel!! Have real instruments instead of a cheap air flute and add some modern instruments too, like an electric guitar. or a key board.
I could go on and on, and on, and on, but to say everything that could be added would take to long, and too long of a post.
This is my idea of a dream RPG game. but you have to keep in mind that GW has pretty much NONE of this so it would be a huge difference from GW1
Tell me what you think all about this.

Oh ya i forgot, horses!! That would be cool, riding into battle on a horse or some other animal or creature like a griffion or a dragon.
They should make mounts like in WoW. Mabey for you face you could make one like in Oblivion or else choose pre-made ones. And in guilds they should make a more... defind rank system. Like luitenits, can lead large groups of players, and heros which are made up of smaller groups like squads commanded by sergents. Captains can recruit. And the general is the guildleader. And you can be awarded medals and ribbions from the higher ranking officers for PvP combat. I think this would combine KingJoes idea good with this.
Lets pray Arena Net sees our ideas beacuse i think these posts would make a kick..Butt game:smiley:
P.S I love the ragdoll physics idea.

More cape options, like cloaks with hoods etc., and more blowy cape effects like in the Ruins of Surmia outpost but without clipping. Also, more Guild Hall enhancements would be nice, like adding in custom NPC's and quests that your guildies can try out.
More freestyle combat options, like on the Star Wars Jedi Academy games.
Going inside buildings would be a great thing too.

I suppose if PhysX and other physics cards haven't completely fallen flat on their backsides by GW2's launch, then client-side support for them could work for the capes.
Keep the game balaced, and based on your skill instead of your level and hours you have grinded!
Thats everything I wait from GW2.

I was hoping Mortal Kombat and the likes died with the 16-bits. :undecided:
Some kind of "skills effects glider" that would allow you to improve the graphic effects of skills, like when you cast a spell that turns your body into stone, you actually turn into stone, shadow form, etc. But then, if you are in a crowded place (like PvP with several players) you could opt for performance and then the effects would look like they are in GW1.
This would be an option on the graphics menu.

Complete and utter variety between two distinct characters. Go all Cryptic on us and do what City of Heroes did! Only with a more fantasy theme too it which I know is quite limiting that dream already >_<
But yeah, more imersion, freedom, fareness. I want to be able to solo effectively against multiple mobs (referring to classes such as Scrappers in City of Heroes)
And this is gunna sound stupid but craft system like Runescape's. I'm sorry but truly the only thing Runescape lacks is full control over a character and better graphics. Otherwise it's one of the smartest games I've ever played when it came to crafting. (Yes I've played it, during my phase of quitting EQ I looked for free alternatives that led me to RS)

Add a "beastmaster" class on top--or a new"hero" possible to do that :
instant succes.
Working a bit like an MM,
with possibility to control an army of pets--
and an Elite superpet like elephant/anaconda/rhino...
Improve (all pets) their damage dealing skills,
add strong signature moves to them
Or just add it as a possible new/extra approach to the ranger : *beastmaster*
I don't know if this has been brought up before, but I'd definitely like to see more variety in what we can do. Killing was fun for the past two years, but it's getting a bit old now.
If more variety isn't added, then I'd at least like to see the introduction of neutral monsters to higher-end areas. Part of the reason Pre-Searing was so realistic is because there are some creatures that ignore you. There should be more herbivores in the game world - even the plants of NF want to eat me for goodness sake!
Basically, I just want the option to fight less.
Do take my word on it, though I can't tell you it's 100% positive but I think we'll be designing a new form of EQ's Faction. In which case we actually participate in the lore on why so and so are enemies to so and so. It's logical considering we'll be able to play new classes. In which case by allying yourself with a certain race, when you venture out in enemy territories you'll be attacks by the exact enemy of the ones you just allied with previously.
While Factions tried to capture this, it still lacked. EQ's form of faction was much more... complicated, that's the best word I can come up with it. Since GW2 will take literally from what we've already gone through (main story Lore wise) the introductions of races in GW:EN and the fact that information is implying more complex forms of AB, we'll see that in GW2 something may entirely occur during the 100 year time span that lead some races to hate, be neutral, and ally with others for certain reasons we ourselves may play a part in (during GW:EN)

Yeah. I can't help but continue to point out what CoH/V did right but I must say the Master Minds in City of Villains did quite well with a pet system....
As for the rangers as a beastmaster, could be like EQ's take on it when they released the Beastmaster in Shadows Of Luclin.

So completely true. I was one of the first high-level crafters back in the day, and easily the most infamous. Fun times.

man that takes me back a bit as well. sometimes I really miss my runescape days *sigh*. oh well onward and upward
In GW2 i think there should be the option to be a heavy tank ( armer protects alot but movement slowed and attack is slowed)
Light tank (has clothes simmiler to mesmer can be customised) moves fast attacks fast not great protection though abit like a more tankish assain but assains probley wont be in gw2
I'd like to see a "diary" feature. Say when you hit "L" (by default) a window pops up with the following tabs:
Current Quests / Completed Quests / Campaign Progress / Bestiary / Notes
The first two, are self-explained,
Campaign Progress would explain what you did, and what are you up to (regarding missions), broke down into days, months, years...like a real diary
Bestiary would give you information on foes you kill (with pictures). Say, when you kill the same monster a few times you'd know it's weak against some types of attacks and such, upon killing it about 20 times, you could get his exact skill bar. 50 times, health points, energy, AL. 100 times ... ... ...
On Notes you could write your own personal notes about anything you want, and below on that screen tab there'd be an option to make an article out of that secific note, turning it into a "physical" item you could handle to another person ingame. It would also be possible to insert notes on the world map.
------------
Concerning the jump feature, i wouldn't like to see everyone jumping like we do on every other game with that feature. Then i was thinking on a way to "limit" it... and other things as well.
Bring into the game a "Stamina" bar. So that while running, jumping, or making any exhaustive physical activity that bar would be slightly consumed... make it so that unlisted types of moviments would consume twice or three times as much Stamina then running, so that when climbing, flying, swimming, you'd waste it faster than normal, each jump would consume a slice of it. When your stamina ends, you can't run and your attack speed is greatly decreased until you recover.
This could also be a mechanic to work on skills (ie. Berzerk, you don't die while at 0 health and ignores Stamina, but when this skill ends your stamina is wasted, and so on).
Mounts would have their own Stamina bars (resilient ones), so that would be a good point on getting them. Elite mounts would have even better Stamina bars... maybe we could even feed them to regen their stamina while running...
EDIT: oh, i just remembered, Diablo II had/has this feature! Although it's useless above mid-to-high levels...

I know there are countless topics on this matter already, but I will try and elaborate a little more on the topic in ways such as, my suggestions for the future game and my reasoning behind them. In stating this, feedback is appreciated weather it be negative, positive or anything in between.
1)Trade Concept: I think we need a better way of trading in GW and a type of trading bazaar would be a system, not like a auction house just a place where people can go to buy and sell things without people having to run around town or asking in chat where the can get so and so item?
2)More Guild Activity: What I mean by this, is that we have guild houses, why not put them to more use then just a place to gather? I say we have more uses for them such as, a more general use where the faction donated is on display and more useful merchants.
3)More Things To Use Faction For: Instead of just a number, use it for more objective and attainable goals.
4)AB Battles Mean Something: As of right now AB battles mean nothing. I say we use them to affect something.
5)Luxon/Kurzick: Put a story to what they each stand for and give each its own goals, objectives and aims that when your guild joins either one, theres a point to join for such as, a advantage of some kind.
These are what I have so far, please feel free to provide feedback, as any kind is welcome and will make this thread that much better.
Thank you,
Geoff K.

Give us super gigantic dungeons and let us go in 20 man teams to do it it would be awsome and also balance somethings out so any professions will be helpful since in Urgoz warriors are bad their and same in UW warriors are bad.
Also let guilds make dungeons that other guilds or themselves can use to practice or have fun in a contest.

They need to:
Remove Forced Teaming:make it possible to solo anywhere you want.
Make griefing impossible.
Balance skills properly.
Make it an actual skill game, not a random button mashing contest.
Cater to the casual player.
Stop favoring the people who always buy the latest chapter.

Looted items have to be reverse engineered if you want to attempt to create the item.
Player made items cannot be reverese engineered.
Able to modify designs.
Reactive AI - if certain skills and weapons are being used a lot agaisnt creatures, the creatures may develop counters to these weapon / skills; requiring a shift towards other skills/weapons.
Today I had an idea for more trapping options in GW2. What about traps that are set above enemies? There are the snares that wrap around the ankle and then pull the victim up into the air. It could act as a sort of disable until the victim is able to cut themselves down. All sorts of objects could fall from these traps onto people for hilarious animations! Maybe there could also be wall traps, the sort that shoot poison darts out of holes in the wall or something. I think these would be cool, more for a greater variety of animations than traps requiring more effectiveness.

i think i will sick this here too for gw2 i case anet devs miss it on the other thread.
I would like to see targeting a little different. It should about tatics stead of click and fight. so meny mmorpg are going to be like that.
I hope anet thinks a little differently it would be cool if the fighting style is a little more like this: the guy in this video thinks the way i think about how fighting should be done in a rpg. i have been saying this from day one

sniping capablities like being able to manualy aim a bow and click the mouse to shoot and move the mouse to aim and don't forget head shots. You can even use this so players can use the enviroment to their advantage like for example some enemies are in front of you, you have a bow, you see a rope holding up a large object, you can shoot the rope and make the object fall on the enemies and they die. Or use it to disable things like you can shoot an arrow to stop a door from closing by shooting it at the gears so it will temporary stop. And also allow players to use ropes to move them around. Oh and put in some mounts so people won't have to walk all the time. And have some battles take place on boats in which players can shoot cannons at the other ship. Have AvA (alliance vs. alliance) in which there will be a large battle pitted in which each guild must buy a boat to use before being able to do this and each guild has it own team and each side would have an Island as a base and they must kill the Alliance Lord on the other team to win this would be the perfect oppotunity to try out some ship battles. Also for GvG and if you put AvA try to see if you can put in a CTF battle in. Also let us explore what's left of orr. And for the beta put the evil gwens back in it was funny in the proph beta. Oh and another thing let players decide if they want to be good or evil i want to see what happens if players were able to decide if they want to be bad or good. And if you are going to have heroes and henchies don't make then brain dead increase the stinkin AI on them. And another thing let players enter buildings make shops instead of staying outside alot give players the option of making houses, give them a roof over their heads. And another thing let places decide which part of the armor piece to dye or even which part of the part of the armor piece to dye and give players the option of putting their guild emblem on their armor, weapons, or off hands. One more thing (don't count on it) for heroes, allow players to make their own heroes who they can name, choose armor style, customize to an extreme extent, and trade heroes with other players. And another thing (i told you not to count on the one more thing) put in some easter eggs and some funny extras like a potion that turns you into a giant chicken. And another thing allow players to put an aura around their armor to look cooler. And another thing allow guilds to make their own dungeons and see if other guilds can conquer it for kicks. And also let use take parts of weapons off and combine them with parts of other weapons to let us make our own custom weapon skins the damage would be the average of the weapons that the parts came from. And let us get armor trimming.

Its probably too late for Gwen But its GW2 compatible too. The concept is this. a 360" world Inside your own Hall of monuments. Now heres the great part, have it so instead of selecting a character's portrait the characters are going around the hall doing random things, Chatting with other characters, doing emotes, looking at monuments. Kind of like a home base for you and your characters. The screen can have arrows to move from one character to another. Once a character is selected he will look at the camera and wave. I believe this will really be a great advancement to the login screen, and give a sense that all your characters know each other and are friends. (i like to think mine are )
Additional thought:This is an addition to the main thought. Players can look at others halls w/o login. Simply enter a character's name and if it matches you are brought to the owners monument hall where you can see their characters and acomplishments. (however thats it.)

One thing that i would like to point out is that there probably should be more that one GW2 suggestion thread. maybe one for skills, one for classes and others for mechanics ect, because GW2 is going to be an entire different game so one thread will be mixing an awful lot of content related only by the fact that it is in the same game.

While many other people in this thread have suggested interesting features and visual improvements, I would like to suggest some innovations to the game mechanics as I have traditionally been interested in innovating the game by adding new game mechanics. It has been a while since I submitted some ideas. But here are some more. If any of the game devs is reading this and should have questions about any of the things I am typing here, you are welcome to pm me so I can explain myself better - either here on the forums or by different means). One of the themes I have seen in this thread repeated so far is the wish for more "immersion, and freedom".
My ponderings could address these things from a game design perspective and can be summarized as follows:
1.) Inherent properties:
Objects in the world should have inherent properties:
- Water conducts electricity (unless pure of course).
- Metals conduct electricty (so a shield made of only metal won't block lightning damage)
- Fire evaporates water.
- Water extinguishes fire.
- Enveloping water can suffocate a character.
- Wood can catch on fire.
- Wood if soaked can conduct electricity in a reduced way.
- Dry wood can catch on fire after a lightning strike.
- Water can be frozen.
- Fire melts ice.
- Stones are inert and very heavy as well as solid.
- Sand and dirt can suffocate a local fire.
- A layer of dirt above some metal or a magical shield of dirt can shield against lightning damage.
- Quickly freezing and heating stones can shatter it (enough change needed).
- Some new stony element you can think of can shield of magic energy.
- Oily stuff floates on water and easily catches on fire.
- Air damage can be abrasive especially if mixed with sand or other small objects.
2.) Interactions with the world
The inherent properties of basic components allows for interactions with the objects in the world. I would like to propose the following interactions interactions with the world. Examples of such are:
- I can hide behind objects such as rocks or trees to escape some of the wind damage or other ranged damage that a mage may call upon.
- I can also set a tree on fire that someone is hiding behind.
- Large rocks can be moved with sufficient strength in a certain attribute and could be used to deal damage by hurling them against someone.
- Objects can also be used to restrict passage to a certain area.
- I can freeze the water people are standing in using water magic.
- Lightning spells that are normally limited to single players can have an areal effect if the people are standing on metal surfaces or water.
- On the other hand, diving into water can extinguish fire.
- Add water and fire can create smoke/fog that reduces vision.
- You can climb objects.
- You can break off twigs to use a make-shift weapons or to craft something fancy.
- You can break off anything for crafting materials.
- If there is oil, it can be used to enhance the effects of fire.
3.) Combinatorics of the above allow for completely new game mechanics.
- Together with telekinesis, you could hurl objects towards people. Telekinesis could be used to fend off things thrown at you. Telekinesis also allows you to lift heavy objects and move them for strategic benefit.
- Using wind, moving objects or persons can be made a lot more difficult.
- Heavy rocks could block the entrance to a dungeon.
- Heavy rocks could hide the entrance to a cache area.
- Heavy rocks can be moved by a number of ways (as many people pushing with enough strenght, telekinesis, shattering with weapons, shattering with spells.
- Heavy rocks with "magical seals" could be indestructable unless a riddle is solved (like the seals must be removed).
- Heavy rocks could need to be lifted at the same time to open a gate (something already done in the Deep in a different form).
- Moving heavy objects to certain positions could trigger certain game mechanics.
4.) "Purpose-driven" AI phylogenies and relationships
The other point I would really to like to point out is a concept of "Purpose-driven" AI phylogenies and relationships rather than the standard generic scripted (if then) AIs:
- AI behavior should not be purely scripted because they are too easy to outplay and after a while boring (see GW which is not to put down this very innovative game).
- AI behavior could be based on a certain phylogeny that groups certain behaviors of classes of enemies together and nuances them.
- AI can vary in terms of intelligence depending on the whether this AI is a beast or another "humanoid" or intelligent life form.
- AIs should have a purpose in the world. The current standard seems to be that AIs are just there to be killed. Though that may be true, it makes these characters seem rather 2-dimensional and uninspired. Examples: Beast AIs could be on the search for food. Herbivores feed of plants. Carnivores feed of herbivores. More intelligent AIs could belong to an "organization" that has a "purpose". In some cases, the purpose could be to protect a certain object or person. In other cases it could be to find and destroy the enemy or to patrol an area and to report any disturbances back to central base. In yet other cases it could be to gather resources for the town people. I am sure you guys at Anet can think of many other "purposes".
- Giving different NPCs different kinds of affiliations, intelligence levels and purposes that may be associated to organizations will increase the complexities. Though game design will be more complex, it also allows for more emergent properties which I think will become more important in future games. The advantages are that scenarios may not have to be scripted so much as these AIs are just fulfilling their purpose. Being a biologist I have to think of an "environment" or "ecology" of AIs, and I think that players would enjoy exploring and exploiting the relationships between these AIs and their organizations that some of these AIs will have though in this case it is much more meaningful than the usual pull-and-divide strategy in this generation of the game.
- In this context, but as I posted before, NPC spawning points should vary. Types of spawns and perhaps numbers should vary.
4.) Emergent properties
Implementing the above allows emergent properties to happen which increases freedom in the game because of the following reasons. It allows for:
- More immersive game-play due to the interactions.
- More complicated combat due to use of the environment (something other game makers are starting to do also) and lighting (?). (Ak more "skill-based" than level grinding.)
- More complicated riddles.
- Sometimes less scripting of situations as situations may arise situationally because of different AIs with different purposes clash.
- More options for game play (you do not always have to fight everything you see although you could; you could make one group fight another, you can distract the AI, you can redirect the AI etc., you can sneak past an AI group or you can talk your way through in some cases if other pre-reqs are fulfilled, if you have armor of a given-team, you could camouflage your way through in some cases).
These are my suggestions for GW2 which I hope will enhance the GW2 experience. I hope other people agree with me here too.

I didn't see this post before...but...wow. That game seems very innovative in terms of game mechanics. if only anet had place some of these things in beta I had made meny threads about adding more freedom runing jumping etc.there is a reason to my maddness. They are finaly doing it for gw2 as well as races. it is funny, to see your ideas you think about other people maybe thinking the same thing too. I have always wondered how that would work in a game. but back on topic
I would like gw 2 to have an complex Economy with jobs. the jobs should be mini games or full blowen games under the gw2 tittle making a belaveable as possible, hence a true rpg.
now picture an in Economy as big as this but way better were players can take up such roles if they choose to.
they should be full blowen mini games as well as full games under the gw game.

Sorry if this was Brought up but a Stabilized Economy would be nice.
-Put in Mod Merchants, Inscription dealers, and ETC.
-No more gamers naming there price for weapons, tomes, and ETC.
-All rare item that drop have a price, if the weapon that was drop is not perfect, when they gamer makes it perfect the price changes depending on what the the mods cost at the dealer.
- also the mod dealers price will lock when a MOD hit a certain price, making it avoidable for gamers to upgrade the weapons.
-To help with Bots or completely get rid of them, what ever the price of an item is you can't go over that price by 1 gold, every item that is traded must go for that price or less depending on if the seller lowers his price by a 1k, also lock the amount of Gold a person can give another person at 3-5k.

Soz if in taking ppl's idea's...I don't know if I am...Let's start with the name...IT GUILD WARS!!!In gw1 there is just basicly ur merchants, storage, rune trader ect...There's no meeting halls or lounges...You must be able to expang ur guild...It woud be nice if members had like a quaters...And offecers get like a VIP lounge...And also...Members,Officers,Leaders...There MUST be more ranks...Like Guild Leader's left hand man or like royal guards...And plz put pike guild embieems on our armour...AND PLZ IM BEGGING U!!!PLZ give us a TAVERN!!!:D...And can there be like an elite guild armour or somthing to maybe show ur Rank in the guild...And plz make guild battles more fun...Like guild defences, archers on the walls...Catapults ect.U catch my drift?MAKE GUILDS FUN!!!
And let there be more emotions...I'm so sick and tierd of seeing the same emote if i play guitar with my dervish and then the sins and the ritualists look all the same...(plz change paragon male dance xD...IT SCARES ME!!!OHH YEAA!!! :D).And let ppl build ur relationships with ppl, lets say u have a good friend..then u get a SECRET handshake,or u can maybe fool around.
AND IM BEGGING U!!!PLZ PUT MOUNTS IN!!!If so..then ill buy GW2 AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!!!:D
As i readed earlyer...Make the skill graphics better...sins must be stealthy...make like them more sneaky...xD
And if maybe...make armours cool and weps too..Example.If ur a Ritualist and then u have like a spiritual glow coming out of u...When a warrior attacks..Let his weapon steam after scopping thru lots of armour...ect...Make ur proud to be like a Lightbringer...Let us have like this light shining fom above when we in a battle...
And ye plz make us have like shops or jobs even!!!Ritualists can't farm EVERYWHERE...so make us like sell spiritual potions or somthing(And yes..I'm a Ritualist lover!!!:D)
AB...I wish like alot of ppl can battle against each other..12 ppl on each side is a bit boring for me(soz Anet),make a war a WAR!!!let there be Catapults,Giant birds dropping boms on our enemy's,BIG FIGHTS!!!GEEEZ!xD...
And i agree with 1 or the ideas i saw..Weather wud ROCK!!Imagine ur lets say in a HUGE fight(PvP based)...Lets say a GvG battle...Let it start raining and let clouds roll in...(Ur fighting for ur guild...Make the battle's FUN...more realistic).
And also i agree on...I read somthing about robes and capes..Let assasins have these cloaks with the guild emblieem on...Warriors...This HUGE CAPE hanging over this plated killing monster of a man's shoulders...Make sonthing go with the proffesions.
AND PLZ...Im gonna be a Charr...plz tew we chose skin colour,hair,face,hair colours...Ect.
PLZ I HOPE SOMEBODY WILL PUT THESE IDEAS IN THE NEW GW2...If so...then I'll game till I can't game no more!!!(I will stop if its affecting my health...Don't worry^^).TY...AND PS.These are ideas that i read of...AND PLZ!!!PUT A TAVERN IN!!!TY.
1. More fluid movement system, in the way of jumping - I think I heard something about climbing trees - awesome if this could be applied to other in-game objects.
2. KEEP SKILL SYSTEM - e.g. you can only have a maximum of # skills at one time, and can only change these in a town or outpost. This is one of the most defining parts of GW.
3. PvE Dungeons - Massive structures, towering behemoths, scaled to level and group size, so players who cannot find groups or do not want to put in a massive effort can still experience them, though with less valuable and often drops.
4. A new profession system, where one can do customizable crafting of a unique character.
I hope developers read this. This suggestions are so simple that could be applied to GW1.
* /age command must time ONLY when you are actually doing something, not AFK! (or show both times)
* You MUST be able to change something more than your armor appearance (example HAIR) / also that event hats must have a second slot NOT overwriting my armor.
* TRADE HOUSE! (if you don't make it for GW2 I will kill .. I mean I will cry)
* PUGs, yes P U G s !!! (think in something for make people LOVE pugging (I mean, not just Guild/Friend teams))
* System Requirements: Yes, be smart and don't make GW2 Vista only or Pixel Shader 4 or whatever other crap like that! Don't sell your soul to nVidia and Microsoft!
* Don't change the way you attack in GW1, because if you change it to "I must really hit you and you can dodge just moving, aka, head shot" this will be a hell, you know, the internet connection ping.

this is just the tip of the iceberge, i hiope you see what I am talking about. this the best exmaple I could find and on a video for you to see.
The graphics are definitely impressive. I hope ANET finds a way to make the graphics better while only slightly increasing system requirements due to an ultra efficient engine :-) What I think is more important is that ANet thinks about something I found FPS developpers are starting to want to push: emergent game play - giving players true choice in game-play in their gaming environment.
With all the pretty pictures, I have not seen a single mmorpg try to think along these lines. Could ANET revolutionize the field by introducing similar concepts into GW2?
Just grabbing some idea's from other games I played and adding a few of my own:
(In-Town) Duel's - Kal Online had this, was great fun at times. Ofcourse, it isn't always fair between different professions, but you'll just have to tweak your skillset :P
Quest Log/Diary - So you can actually read back on what quests you have done, with small summary's of the actions & conversations you have done.
Day/Night/Weather - Think Zelda: Ocarina of Time. But let it change day about every 2 - 3 hours. Weather can be applied randomly and heck, maybe add a forecast :P
"The Krytan Herald Newspaper" - Can add to the above, just for fun, the weather for the next few day-switches. The Scribe can do this, adding honorable deed's, Event details or "new quests". Or calling help for the Random Events (Like that dragon destroying a bridge they talked about). It can inform people very fast about what's going to happen. Will lessen the "how to get mask" questions if they cna just buy a newspaper for 10 - 15 gold.
Other Travelling Methods - If there's a river, let it be used by a boat. If it's an open field, let there be mounts. If a giant mountain is in the way, rent a Saltspray dragon or go mountain climbing :P
Dual Wielding - ROSE had a few of these. There were swords which you could use separately and from those swords there were a few combinations which resulted in Dual Swords.
For Guild War's mechanic sake, add in an option to pick two blades and add a "Dual" option to it. No, this will not result in a 44 dmg sword, but make it on par with daggers. You can choose whatever mod/inscrip of the 2 swords this new "Dual Weapon" will have. Maybe make it automatically customized with some extra damage.
Two-Handed Swords - And make em Big :P *cough*
Giving up defense for more offense basically. Shouldn't be too hard to implent. Can be on par with Hammers.
Crests - Don't be forced to have your guild emblem only on your cape! Be proud of your guild and let a blacksmith put a crest on your armor's chest or shoulders.

Hi i have a few ideas that i would like to share with everyone about guild wars 2
1. different lands
each race should have their own home land wher only that race can be and then there is a main huge island where each race foghts for a temple of a tower and whoever has it can use some srt of power.
2.tribes made up of guilds and the tribes can build frotresses and walls etc. this will add a lot of depth to the game as well as strategy.
3.detailed character customization like tatoos armbacds stufff like that .
thank you for reading this and of you have any question email me at coolperson52@yahoo.com
Town Clothes
Since they have not been mentioned in this thread yet, I thought I'd bring up the town clothes - clothes that would appear on your character once you entered a non-combat area.
Town clothes are one of the things that (according to Gaile) was actually in the works for GW, but that I assume got canned later. I think they would be a great way of further customizing your character.
---
Town Clothes would have no AL, and would only be used for the sake of cosmetics. They would provide a way of customizing your character beyond just wearing the armors of your chosen class. Let's say you play a mesmer, but you prefer the looks of necros - and that town clothes would let you take on a more necroish look (if you wanted to). Or just be clothes that would make your character look more laid back when not fighting.
This would basically be an extension of the festival hats we have today, but obviously there would have to be a better way of equipping/wearing and storing them. Ideally, you wouldn't have to unequip your armor to wear your town clothes - that the armor would automatically be replaced with your town clothes once you enter an outpost.
---
Possible pitfalls:
Since we don't know yet how GW2 will work (with its greater level of persistancy) this idea may very well fall flat on its face, since the line between combat and non-combat areas may be a lot more vague.
There may be tehnical reasons as to why the town clothes were never introduced to GW in the first place. I imagine they could bloat the game files quite a bit.
This idea sort of crosses over into the realm of "disguise kits" (http://guildwars.incgamers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=454099), a suggestion we've had for GW a couple of times before. If there are town clothes, there may not be disguise kits, and vice versa. If both were put into the game, it would make sense that both used the same technical mechanic.

Cant be bothereed to read whole thread but love this idea.

I am not sure what GW2 will be. Therefore, I will just make a general suggestion concerning skills:
When coming up with skills, also consider skills that affect the energy of nearby enemies with double-edged effects. Drawing a GW1 analogy:
Energy Surge:
Each foe in the area of target foe loses x-y energy. Target foe gains x-y energy. For each point of energy gained beyond the max, target foe receives a-b points of damage.
Enervate:
Target foe loses x-y points of energy to each foe in the area. Target foe becomes weakened.
Something in that direction.
Also consider the following distinction:
Spells against a specific foe require LOS or Astral vision to target foe. While areal spells require LOS or Astral vision a specified area.

Here are some of the things which I think are a MUST have in GW2
- Duel's with other player in PvE
- Dual Wielding
- Trade House ( the current trading system really needs to be improve, so hopefully we wont see the same type of system in GW2 )
- Day, Night and Weather effects.. check this video of oblivion to see how cool it looks when done right.

well the things I listed above definitely aren't something difficult to impliment in the game as many other MMO's already have many of those features. Here are some other stuff I'd love to see in the game
- Mail/Postal (like in Wow, a nice feature and it definitely wouldn't hurt having it in GW2)
- More Armour customizing options
- Let us enter buildings, its not a important feature but I think it kind of takes the depth out in some ways playing the entire game and never really entering a building. Instead of having traders just standing outside. Give them a shops so that we have to go inside to make a purchase.
- If there will be any areas like contested zones in Wow where players can freely attack others if would be nice feature being able to put a bounty on someones head, so other players can go hunt down the person who kept on killing you, (If anyones played Eve online they know what im
