View Full Version : Infortunatos Maxeles? Is that his birthname?

Alright, this poor guy starts a fight with the wrong dragon, then he's cursed with bad luck (presumably for life). So, I don't really speak too much classical Latin (which is what I guess his name is supposed to be), but I'm guessing it translates into "The Most Unfortunate", or something like it.
So then, if his life was pretty sweet before he attacked THE Albax, and if I read his name right, then can we assume that he took up that name after his incident with the dragon? And if so, I doubt he changed it immediately after the event, it must have taken some time before he put two and two together, right?
What do you Canthan Scholars make of this?
At the end of his quest, he will tell you that you may call him 'Fortunatos Maxeles.' So, apparently, he knew what his 'name' meant and was able to change it.
My guess it's more of an assumed name, given this.

Dang. So it would appear that I should've done the quest before asking. At any rate, I'm sure he had a different more "Luxon-sounding" name at birth.

I agree with Troal. A given name is most likely.
...However, many Luxon names take their influence from Latin / classical culture. Luxon culture, as a matter of fact, takes some influence from Spartan culture- the most obvious cases of this include the Luxon's stalwart nature, and their tradition to leave the physically disabled out to die, "Given to the Sea". This last one was the one that just screamed Sparta at me (...except the "Sea" part) :)
...but this is irrelevant. What matters is that quite a few Luxon names take their influence from classic culture.

the Luxon could also have taken those traditions from Mongol Nomads.
