You can aggro as many as you like. Just keep melandru's up that alone keeps you alive (and gives you huge energy regen  )spam touch skills to kill.

Hehe, an alliance member of mine gave me a simiiar build using melandru's resiliance, worked like a charm in the preview weekend
However, I was a r/me and used backfire, empathy, finish him and blackout. I'm sure there are many more possible combinations.

Uhh melandrus resiliance, i just used the normal toucher build for it :/ but it did work and got my gloves^^ but think your build is better for it.
i got my 2 pair of gloves using backfire, empathy and some healing/run skills. you need to fight them 1 by 1 using my build tho. i think your build is better for this :P
also used mesmer skills myself, this works better

Build works like a charm.
For the open slots consider Plague Touch so you can transfer the deep wound, which helps you kill them much faster and also Signet of Agony to add bleeding to yourself for an extra pip of energy and 1 pip in health regen.
Once I get to the Spectral Vaettir, it works great. But how do you get past the Pinesouls near the res shrine on the way there?
I tried a few times -- tried with speed boosts, and the traps slowed my ranger down enough for the Pinesouls to just be able to kill her. Then tried with Melandru's Resilience, and the conditions from the traps weren't enough to counteract the damage from just their normal attacks. In the end, I went a bit further north and around, but I'm still wondering how you got through.
I added Awaken the Blood to the skill bar (and Plague Touch, using BlueHeaven's suggestion), and altered the stats a bit -- so I have it set to 15 Expertise (11 + 3 + 1), 11 Wilderness Survival (10 +1), 10 Blood Magic. It makes it so that Melandru's Resilience lasts 17 seconds, you never have any time you're not in the stance. And Awaken the Blood lasts 36 seconds, and boosts your Blood Magic to 12.
I have had to stand there for a few seconds to let energy regen sometimes, but nothing really critical.
Added:
Actually, it seems to be easier without using Plague Touch. The extra condition gives more health regen and another pip of energy regen.

The pinesouls usually won't lay down the traps until you aggro them, so if you just run straight thru, they will start to the lay the traps, but you should be well past them by the time they are done.
And yeah, the extra E-pip from the deep wound helps, don't really need plauge touch, but sig of agony works really good for even more energy, I haven't found anything else (besides awaken the blood) that can make this build go any faster yet. But I got about 47 stones in about 30 mins, so its not that bad.
I've tried to go through the Pinesouls ten times. Zero success. Every single time, I hit two or more traps.
I'm just going around now. Longer, but... bleh. And yeah, swapped Plague Touch for Signet of Agony, and it's going quite well.
Oh, and side note -- if you haven't done the Blood Washes Blood quest, there are far fewer Vaettir. I just did the quest and it went from less than ten Vaettir up to fifteen.
I would add Angorodon's Gaze in combination with Signet of Agony for those two free slots. Angorodon's Gaze, free life stealing every fifth second when you've got a condition on you! :)

Just take Norn skill "I am unstoppable" its a shout so it stacks with your running stances, no cripple and no kd when running through pines :)
Activating Melandru's Resilience when you do get hit by the traps will give you enough health and energy regen to make it past them. Got through the Pinesouls last night (1st time I got snared) with almost 200 health. A bit hairy, considering I didn't bring Troll Unguent.
And it's about a three-minute wait, but activating the Sacred Altar will give morale boosts to work off DP (I get mine mostly from lag).

I'll have to try that, thanks for the idea. I haven't done the Cold as Ice quest on my ranger (or any other character, for that matter) so didn't know about this skill.

When I hit the traps, the traps themselves didn't kill me -- but the Pinesouls did. Even with the +4 regen from Melandru's Resilience. I even brought Troll Unguent with me, and pre-cast it. Although to be honest I think I cast that a bit early and it wore off before I got very far. Still didn't make it through (I try to go through the Pinesouls about every other run).
Although at least one time I had the experience of getting stuck on a Pinesoul. You know, that thing where you think you ran past, but keep getting hit and then if you type /stuck you snap back to where you are just standing in front of the Pinesoul while he stomps on your head. Bah.
For the record, the longer run:
http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/573/gw062wx0.th.jpg (http://img62.imageshack.us/my.php?image=gw062wx0.jpg)
On this route, there are a few Chilling Wisps that you have to run through. They'll follow you for a bit, unless you activate one of the +33% speed boosts (they use... Harrier's Haste, I think, so keep up with you at +25%) but they haven't been a problem.
And it's about a three-minute wait, but activating the Sacred Altar will give morale boosts to work off DP (I get mine mostly from lag).
At 100 XP per kill, I can work off the death penalty faster from just killing Vaettir than from the shrine. It's almost a one-to-one ratio. Kill a Vaettir, lose a percent of death penalty. (Not quite, but very close)
Yep, during another run I thought I was already heading downhill past the Pinesouls, but I was still taking damage. Next thing I knew I was back at the pass, facing a Pinesoul, or rather its foot.
Agree, killing the Vaettirs is a more efficient way to work off DP. Activating the Sacred Altar comes in handy though when I need to go afk a bit
Question, what offhand do you guys prefer using? I both have the +27e/-1e regen and the Blood Magic +1 (20% chance) collector's Blood Knives on weapon switch. Mostly I use the +27e knife as Melandru's Resilience takes care of the energy regen for me, then the other one to regain energy between fights.
Am at 80 stones now, a few more runs and 100 it will be... but I still don't know yet which of my characters will I give the stones to. By default it'll be my ranger who farmed his frostbitten bottom off getting the dang stones, but it may look better on my other characters... (and I'm not about to farm another hundred for a long time yet lol)
I've just been using the Hourglass staff. Not because it's necessarily the best choice, but because I was lazy and standing in Sifhalla ready to go for another run when I realized that a bow probably wasn't the most useful choice.
Regain energy? Between fights? I haven't been doing that at all. True, I do occasionally stand in the middle of a bunch of Vaettir and have to wait for a second to be able to cast a vampiric skill, but so far it hasn't been an issue at all. The lowest I've seen my ranger's health at any time was about 230-something. And that was due to aggroing six Vaettir and hitting Signet of Agony right when a bunch of them hit my ranger with Accumulated Pain. So I am not waiting between battles at all.
And oddly enough, I'm also not sure on which of my characters is going to get the Glacial Gauntlets. My necromancer and warrior both got a set during the preview weekend. Necromancer was doing a solo Blood Magic build, and acquiring 60 glacial stones was considerably easier than 200.
Got the gloves for my ranger last Saturday. Did it with a ranger friend, who loves the build too. Thanks again, Being!
(/thinking where else I could use a Melandru's Resilience-based toucher to farm with...)

@ Nkuvu
You don't need to rezone back to Sifhalla and repeatedly "do the run", simply rezone through to Bjora Marshes and back to get the respawn. Makes life a lot easier.
As for the build... very nice. You only need WS at 9 as then Melandru's last 15 secs with a 15 second cool down so you can keep it on permanently.
Use the extra spods on blood magic.

Must admit the drops are soooooo bad in general I just did a 2 hour solid grind for the gauntlets... but they're a bit of a disappointment. Very dark in colour (unlike the image on the Wiki) and un-dyable.
I guess they'll keep me happy while I farm cores.

Ack.. just don't go there. The whole HoM thing is so badly implemented and weak compared to what we all wished for - but lets not hijack this thread
I can't say that the drop quality is very good -- but a full (or nearly full) inventory will yield about two platinum, and it doesn't take very long to fill up inventory.
With just a few runs, I'd paid for the new mask and runes that my ranger bought for the run. And really, I get bored with the farming fairly quickly, so I've been using that as a cutoff -- full inventory, gotta stop now.

That's what I did (though to be fair a guildmate suggested it ). It's annoying doing the Glacial Griffon quest, but once you get the skill it works like a charm.
The drop rate is better than I expected- three or four per run. Getting 100 won't be bad at all.

Yeah, so I finally got my gauntlets, But while I farmed with my Ranger, I got them for my Fire Ele, and now I regret it, as they don't look as good as I thought they would on her. Well, I guess back to the grind of this annoyingly long farm to get a set for my Tank. At least its easy, just very long.
Also, I didn't realize these things had 160 Armor vs elemental Dmg till I attacked one with a fireball and did about 20 damage (as apposed to 120 on 60 armor).

Gotta say there's heaps more of those Vaettiers in HM but the mandragors are a bit more nippy!

But how was the Vaettir farm? Still doable?
And... mandragor? Why are you playing with mandragor for this?

Well don't try pulling more than one at a time and believe me that's tricky given how many spawn.
As for the mandragors... you have to mess with them because the spawns are very different for HM and the HM mandragors have jet packs on!!

Is there any point to doing it in HM?
draugaer
14-10-2007, 22:34
Tried doing it in hm, I'm pretty sure there's no benefit to it, the vaettir take forever to kill, and if you aggro more than a couple, you'll die. (which is basically impossible considering how many there are.)
Notorious BOB
15-10-2007, 22:30
Nope, no point to it, totally pointless actually. Just wanted to comment on the fact that there are loads of the little bleeders (or are they 'suckers'?) there and that the mandragors move at warp speed in HM!!

Just a quick note to those that have not done it yet.......
It really really easy (it has to be if I can do it). This weekend I farmed up the 100 stones needed for the gloves in about 8 runs, and made about 7k from selling drops.
Make sure you clean out your inventory before going, and dont go back to town until your inventory is full. Each time out from town I picked up anywhere from 13 to 22 stones, and had to rezone 2-3 times before filling my inventory.

I've tried it, and added Dwarven Stability to the build, that way you can keep MR up all the time, and your running skills also last longer ;) for the last slot I just added another running skill, but might add something else (awaken the blood seems a good choice)

I used awaken the blood too..it works well b/c you don't have any health sac skill to worry about.
I think it casue me to have energy problems at the end of a fight if I agro'ed more than 3-4 at one time. But it was worth it cause it sped things up quite a bit

Exactly the build Being posted works a cinch, I just added Signet of Agony and Angoron's gaze to speed things up a tad and to fill the empty slots. I haven't had much luck though with the drops :undecided:
:girly:
Glacial stone farming ? wtf i never ever heard about such a thing, i swear those stones are über hard to get, worse than destroyer cores.
( first ranger i've created but was gonna do so anyway, 12 hours over 3 days spent in jaga moraine while watching television and movies, 100 glacial stones farmed, sold for 60k today under 20 minutes of advertising, this is faster than getting a rago drop, many thx for the build )
I know nobody's posted in a while, but I've got to say, this is a pretty nice build.
Just tried it, got three stones on my first run...Is that a normal amount? And how long would it take to get to, say, 100?
It's been a while since I've done this run, but I recall some runs where I got no glacial stones, and some others where I got six or seven... it really varied quite a bit.
I farmed 36 today, and I haven't even been playing for too long.
By the way, how much do Glacial Stones go for these days? (Each?)
I see them going for 300g each, but I've not gone back there since I got my set for my ranger.
As with nkuvu, you can have no stones in a run, other times can go up to 7.
I may go back there to give a set to a friend, as well as some for for my other characters.
Can the 130hp dervish build be used to farm for glacial stones? I just tried to get there but got owned by the Mountain Pinesouls that are in the way.

I have issues with the Pinesouls as well, so I just avoid them. I posted a map of the slightly longer run that I use in an earlier post (http://guildwars.incgamers.com/forums/showpost.php?p=5126566&postcount=14).
But to answer the question, I'd be very surprised if the 130hp dervish can do this. The Vaettir have a lot of degen, Clumsiness, apply Deep Wound... they don't do anything with enchantments, so that's a plus.
"I Am Unstoppable!" is all you need if your having trouble with pinesouls. speed boost + that and your golden.

If your having trouble with the run, try Running from Longeye's Ledge instead of Sifhalla. You can actually walk there without aggroing anything, and it makes running there in hard mode possible (can't do it from Sifhalla in HM).
As of now, the best way to farm (quickest and best yield) is to farm in HM with an Obsidian Flesh Elementalist. The build is on Wiki. This way you not only will you get you glacial stones, but HM drops a lot of golds, most merch bait but still yield 200-400 gold at merch.
Build:
E/Me
Earth: 16
Air: 4
Inspiration: 11
Rest in Energy Storage
1. Obsidian Flesh
2. Mantra of Earth (they do Earth Damage with Melee, so you have rediculous Energy recovery)
3. Glyph of Swiftness
4. Stonefless Aura
5. Crystal Wave
6. Teinai's Crystals (duplicate)
7. Archane Echo
8. Storm Djin's Haste
The Hardest part about this build is trying to aggro as much as you can before they surround you and you get stuck :) You can take them all if you can get them. Just keep up Obsidian Flesh and Stoneflesh Aura.
Don't know if this has already been posted here, didn't check thru the other pages.
Also I believe the current price of the stones are about 150-200g ea, so 15-20k per 100.

my proposed changes:
add in Radiation Field - but watch energy
add in Edge of Extinction - the idea is that as the radiation field does AoE, EoE finishes off the lot after a while
Notorious BOB

Radiation Field - pointless, the build works just fine as is.
EoE - Equally pointless and a pretty bad idea as it incurs the wrath of the AoE/RoK nerf.
