I will apologize now for this being reposted if it has been mentioned somewhere else. (I haven't seen it though)
What do you guys think of raising a pet from a cub? When I say this, I mean literally capturing it from its mother (big fight) and raising the tiny animal. Now there are some aspects to this that could be played on... Finding food etc, and it being very small. Also as it gets larger you could purchase armor from a smith. Just an idea.
Your thoughts?
Well about raising, don't the pets just get bigger and bigger while they gain XP?! Liked the armor idea though.
you mean kinda like the way pets work in lineage2? only there you get the pet after a quest but from then you will have to let it fight to lvl up, give it food or it will die, buy special armor to make it stronger. i like the idea of that.

Evolving the idea a bit a friendship system would be nice too, get points for how much you spend time with your pets or how you treat your pet. Higher levels give more benefits like maybe 5% more damage or something of the sorts. Maybe even skills...but that sounds kinda like other mmos...maybe perhaps it will affect the equipment you can give to your pet? I mean this can even go far enough to go into a title...how many high friendship pets you have...ya....but that would also mean we'll need to get a stable of sorts. Well being a giant world that GW2 could be I don't see how hard it might be to implement but I'm thinking wayy too much like Harvest Moon games >.>

I don't like the idea of taking an animal from its mother.
But having more training options after you've tamed an adult would be nice. And I'm hoping we'll be able to have more than one pet, too.
I wouldnt mind having a Baby Dragon that could grow in power and burn all my enemies to ash.
I want racial abilities for each Pet.
oh yeah,
allow us to customize our pets by putting symbols on them and changing their color. I want my dragon to have Red wings with Green body.

Im just thinking this could make a business for a stables etc... care and auction of rare animals. oh the opportunities! >.}
Maybe Signature moves form pet ie: phoenix: Fiery Talons: (Does x amount of damage and the foe burns for 1-2 seconds.) it will do these skills by itself in a fight, you cannot force to do it. Each pet will have one of these skills (these will all have to do equal damge in the end i know.
I don't like the idea of taking an animal from its mother.
Me neither. :)
A quest reward sounds less cruel in that regard.
I also like the idea for the different abilities depending on what kind of a pet you have.
Customisation on the other hand is not something I'd take too far. Seriously, would you ever think of dying your RL pet's fur or tattoo-ing the poor animal?
In my opinion, the customisation should therefore come from before the animal is born.
To go along with the dragon pet: if you want a green dragon with red wings, you'd have to get an egg that is green with red swirls, or something.
Obviously this would not work on mammals off course. I suppose for mammals customisation would ensue from breeding lines and stuff like that.
I don't like the idea of taking an animal from its mother.
why? every pet in the real world has been taken away from its mother at some point.
either way is fine for me.

What I was trying to say was not to be anti-animal rights.... but that it would be a bit more of a chore to cap a pet....
For instance you would have to venture far, or follow clues from people that my have seen one(kinda like the Black Choco er.. i mean Moa).
I think having to take on Glint for one of her dragons eggs would be worth it. Also there should be a fail rate with raising an animal from an egg.... Just ideas.
they could even let you do a quest that has a location as reward that shows the location where your charracter could capture the pet. ofcourse they have to make it so you "need" the quest reward location to be able to cap the pet. instead of people just farming pets from one location.

I don't care about having to do a large battle to cap a pet, but it would be nice if we could outfit them with armor, etc.
Whatever happens I just hope pets in GW2 are actually worth using and not a nuissance like in GW.
why? every pet in the real world has been taken away from its mother at some point.
You do have a point there, I guess. But normally, they're not taken away from the mother right at birth. Somehow, I assumed the idea was that we'd actually have to nurse the pet.
Besides... Having to do a quest is much funner in my opinion anyways. I like doing quests and having to run around.
If there's armour available, I do hope it comes with the option of making it visible or not, like with our guild capes and helms.
Armour means more protection so it's a good thing, but I'm less fond of covering up my beautiful familiar.

I'm all for the idea, but most of all I'd like a signet of taming, that works on pets like signets of capture do on elite skills  no need for a stable, just a new icon of the pet, listed as 'Pet's in the skillmenu

either way is fine for me.
Because Anet will have problems with animal protection organizations.

I like the idea of raising a pet from young and it growing with you in attribute and whatnot. What I think would be cool is if you could show off your pet in town, that would be sweet. But other then that, I like the charming system in place now, but maybe there should be more options in the beginning, or more access to the pets. Maybe a quest to charm a pet is free it from the zoo, the Zoo Crew would be liberating pets forever.
As long as they have a bear in GW2, I'll be happy.

Just for Mookle
I would be happy with some more custom design stuff, like collars, furr colour etc.

Cute! I want one! Then again, if I could charm a bear cub in GW2 I might not want it to grow up. There's another option, maybe find a way we can control the size of our pet.

Does he come with a Coca-Cola Bottle offhand?
I'm wielding a white polar bear with a savage smile and a coca-cola offhand!

I don't think its a good idea. I get a 'Sims' bling bling feeling with it.
A pet kennel would be much nicer. Let's say up till 3 or 5 of your favorite tamed and levelled pets per character. And of course a title with it (when all pets have level 20) , legendary beastmaster or so.
