Probably about a year and a couple months. I haven't heard any official release date on even the beta.

Beta supposedly will start the second half of 08 though.
beta(is the beta open?) q3 of 2008 sometime. Release (hopefully) the beggining of 2009.
Isn't beginning on 2009 way too early? GW1 was in beta testing for quite a while before it was released. I remember playing it first in December '04 and it wasn't released until May '05. During that time there were a lot of changes taking place - for one, the addition of pre-searing. I'd rather have it released late '09/early to mid '10 than come out with an unfinished game.
Yeah, I have come to accept the fact that the release won't be for a while, which can be seen as a good thing. But I can't wait till beta testing

Don't forget though that ANet were starting with a blank slate in regards to Guild Wars. With Guild Wars II, they now have the resources to on which to build.
Some people thinks it's going to be released in early 2009 or late 2008...

We have to assume work on GW2 started after NF so we are talking late 06/early 07. This time the difference between the 2 release's if that this one is a sequel so a lot of the Story, some game mechanics ect has already happened which in theroy should lead to a shorter timespan of game development.
Were they? o_o
I know this much: There were two design teams working on GW1. Design team one: Prophecies. In the meantime, the other team is working on Factions. Then, the first design team starts working on Nightfall. So did the second design team do EotN, or was that work plan scrapped and was a bunch of people dedicated to EotN and a bunch of people already working on GW2?
And did they have enough resources to work on both EotN and GW2 at the same time?
And remember, there was going to be a chapter four as well (GW: Utopia) which was scrapped. Concept art exists for this project; I think I saw mention of it in a conceptart.org thread. (Too lazy to look for it now, but I can do that later if you guys don't know what I'm talking about.)
Not saying you guys are wrong, I'm just trying to brainstorm the possible date.

Well I remember reading the article in the PC Gamer (I think, the one with the code for the Mini Asura) about GW
and why they were making EotN and expansion and not another chapter so more staff could actively work on GW2 (this was pre-EotN release).
Thought I'm not holding my breathe. People did that for Half-Life 2 . . .millions died.

Let's just hope the game isn't released filled with bugs and lacking some features like Vanguard was. I don't want to experience that again. Guild Wars 2 will need to be really polished and not in beta condition when released. This is my only worry but judging how awesome ANet is, I can sort of sleep easy.

The Factions team begun work on Utopia but soon after switched to GW2, the NF team took some work of Utopia and worked it into the expansion EOTN before that entire team merged with the GW2 team.
Well Utopia was cancelled between May of 2006 and January of 2007 according to the wiki. I think its safe to say that GW2 has been in developement for about 1.5 years if not a tad bit more. Release dates can often change so I guess we all have to wait and see

I was one of them LOL-
GW2 is a wait and see. O and question. Did they reset progress from GW1 beta to live game? And I wonder if they will do the same for GW2 beta.

They do have a very good track record so far.

Yes, they did. And they probably will.
Speaking of release and news, looks like E3 wont hold anything, as NCsoft will not be attending the event.
How does one get into a beta for GW2?

There will probably be a closed and an open beta. closed first followed by open. This is the general standards that most game devs follow.
I wish i can get into the closed beta and that it comes out while im off uni...

Yeah, that will most likely be the chosen method Closed Beta will mean people will have to apply to get into it. Normally Closed lasts up to 6-12 months based on how smoothly development goes. Open Beta normally lasts a month and not everything is open to the player. I would imagine that with Open Beta they will stick to the chosen method that happened with GW1 open weekends wasnt it?

Seriously, where the heck is the info? This dearth is proceeding from exciting, to upsetting, to now plain idiotic on the part of ANet's marketing team.
Remember Anet haven't confirmed anything yet, so we can't be sure all we can do is guess guess and guess.
But I think that we will see something of GW2 this summer maybe not on E3 but PAX and GC in Leipzig too so, we have too wait and see.

I'm not sure whether ANet is attending E3; NCSoft certainly aren't.
That would seem to make the other venues more likely.

I don't care about when they release it, aslong as its the best they can make it.
The only information I'm hoping is that they create a Gunpowder based class.

If NCSoft wont chances are Anet wont, as far as I am concerned E3 was over the moment they said downsize and no public. Oh well guess I can still go Leipzig much more local anyway, in my eyes that has taken the place of E3.
