First.....this is going to be big so I will apologize in advance.
I know its been posted before by myself and others, but now that they have a GW2 area and not just a single merged thread, I thought I might as well post it again with some new thoughts added in. For the current game most of these would be impossible to add. But in making a whole new game it might be possible.
As stated in my previous ones, this includes ideas others have posted and ideas I've had that are LARGELY based on the ideas of others. The main point of this is to combine the posts involving Guild Ranks, Promotions, Rank Displays, and Hall Upgrades.
Promotion/Seniority:
To cover all bases this would need certain things to be monitored. Mainly the amount of time you have spent in-game since joining a guild. What you were doing during that time will determine if you qualify for a specialized rank.
Certain ranks should require approval from the rest of the guild. Easy way to do this would be to have a messaging system In-Game. A yes no poll would pop up the next time one logs in. Since the account name is your email address they could fire off a notice of a vote. Vote lasts say 1 week then if there is enough approval said member gains the new rank.
For the voting system it could give the different ranks greater say in the matter. Could be most of the regular Members were recruited by a prospective Officer and could vote in his favor but if all the Officers dislike the guy they could band together to keep him from their ranks. They do after all have a higher standing.
Time-based Seniority should only count minutes in which your character was active. You cannot wrack up the time by just standing in the field or in town while you sleep.
Ranks:
Rank names are just examples. It would be nice to have them customizable or chosen from a list of name schemes. Some have mentioned linking bonuses to the ranks and specialties and while it would give it more purpose it may not be the best idea.
Some have also suggested a tag with your name to show your rank. A friend of mine gave me a better idea. Use the Cape Border and alter the color to show the ranks. I have added this to my rank list. The (color) is the color the border of the cape has to show ranks. There should also be an option to turn off your rank display if you wish.
Commander (Leader) (patterned silver metallic)
Colonel (up to 3); (silver metallic) Full access to all parts of the Guild. Capes, Hall Upgrades, etc. Able to view the full Guild Rosters for the entire Alliance (online and offline), can nominate members for officer positions and recruit, demote, or kick any of lower but not equal rank.
Colonels are appointed by the Leader. This position is meant for the Leader’s friends/co-founders of the Guild, and has the same powers as the Leader.
Captain (up to 6); (gold metallic) Able purchase and use all Hall Upgrades. Cannot however change the Cape, Hall, or choose Faction Allegiance. Able to view the full Guild Rosters for the entire Alliance (online and offline), can nominate members for officer positions and recruit, demote, or kick any of lower but not equal rank.
Captains must be voted into their position. One may be nominated for Captain by current Captains, Colonels, and the Commander. Must qualify for at least 2 specialty ranks and have spent at least X# hours as a Specialty Lieutenant before being eligible for nomination.
"Specialty" Lieutenants (up to 2 per Specialty); (white-lined specialty color metallic) Able to view the Online Guild Rosters for the entire Alliance as well as the offline portions for the Specialties they qualify for. They can also nominate members for Lieutenant and recruit, demote, or kick any of lower but not equal rank.
Lieutenants must be voted into their position. One may be nominated for Lieutenant by current Lieutenants, Captains, Colonels, and the Commander. Must be a Sergeant for their Specialty and have at least X# hours at that rank before being eligible for nomination.
"Specialty" Sergeant (up to 3 per specialty); (specialty color metallic) Able to view the Online Guild Rosters for the entire Alliance and the offline ones for their specialty only. This rank is the first able to recruit but cannot demote or kick other members.
Sergeant is gained if you have a Specialty Rank and have at least X# hours at that rank. This rank will be first come first serve. Once the 3 slots per specialty are full any others who qualify will have to wait till a space opens up. If more are waiting than space available it then goes to who has the most time in-game.
Soldier; (white) First rank able to utilize the Guild Hall NPC's. Able to view the Online Guild Rosters for the entire Alliance. Specialty Soldiers function the same but get recognized for focusing on certain things and gain access to the offline rosters of the alliance for their specialty only. Their Cape Border also changes to that of their Specialty.
Soldier is gained by having X# hours at Recruit.
Recruit; (purple) Just joined. No access to anything till they have put in their time. The only things Recruits can really do is display the Cape and meet up with others in the Guild Hall.
Specialties: (Account based just like Guild Membership) If new campains or expansions become available you will have a limited number of weeks or months to bring the new area up to specs. If you do not you lose that specialty.
Hunter: (blue) Must meet at least 3 of the following requirements; have a character with 75% or more of all available maps explored, X# of kills of equal or higher level in PvE, X number of high-end chests opened, X# of skills unlocked both normal and elite.
Gladiator: (red) Must have won X# of Non-Guild-Linked PvP battles to qualify. Basically any PvP battle that adds only Balth Faction.
Protector: (dark blue) Must have all missions completed with bonus or masters and at least 75% of all quests from available campaigns completed.
Conqueror: (dark red) Must have won X# Guild-Linked PvP (and PvE if GW2 adds them) battles to qualify. Basically the ones that add Faction other than Balth.
The Roster window would likely need to be changed to a branched chart rather than a single column with dividers for the ranks like it is now, but a column might still work.
Hall Upgrades:
The Hall Upgrades I’ve seen and tend to agree with are;
Vault; Would store materials and gold for those that might need it. Some system for paying back whatever you take out would have to be worked out but it think its possible.
Pet Stable; It would be nice to be able to keep pets incase you ever want to change back to one.
Weaponsmith; This one needs to have a function other than customizing. Having him buy/sell inscriptions and upgrades would be REALLY nice.
Members: I would love to see them add something where little statues of every member’s main character is standing in ranks in the Guild Hall. When someone is online it could add color to their statue. This really does not do anything but would look fairly cool.
Well those are my thoughts on the subject. Feel free to pull it apart, condemn it, praise it, subtract from it, or add to it.
