View Full Version : An Idea: Intelligent and Unintelligent AI

I got an idea while reading another thread:

What if in GW2, the stupider creatures had simple or possibly even negative AI effects (like running arround or even into AI if there is an enemy in there that they want to bash, ect.) and the more intelligent creatures had really intelligent, complicated AI, true battle tactics, such as positioning, avoiding AoE, inturrupting high priority skills, ect. This could even go as far as simpler creatures having okay or maybe even stupid builds, while the more intelligent have very good builds that they use very well.

I'm not saying that the stupid creatures should have such horrible AI that they almost kill themselves, or are too easy to kill, but I think it would be more interesting and make sense.

What do you think?

This sounds very good to me.

Sounds good, but not to the point where it gets annoying. Also, bad AI that runs into walls and other monsters looks like bad programming. You don't want the reviewers to look at that.

I would agree that all high level bosses should at least act somewhat like real players would. That would make it more BOSS battle-like instead of just giving them broken skills.

If the types of critters we encounter in newb areas - the ones that are normally non-aggresive and can be aggroed but not charmed - were extended throughout all the game's areas then I could accept them having "stupid" AI. They would be high level, of course.

I like the idea of wandering through herds of Ntoukas, for example, and just enjoying them as part of the spectacular scenery, ie. as green dots. Having the option to kill them and nick their drops would be fine as long as the choice were mine. If they were to attack me automatically, as they do now, but have only stupid-level AI I can imagine the fighting to be unrewarding and tedious. Hence, I'd like the option.

So, potential enemy mobs that add to the ambience if that's how you want to enjoy them, can be killed for fun and loot if that's how you want to enjoy them, with low-level intelligence to satisfy logic. That would work for me .

What (I hope) the OP means is that the "stupid" mobs would have about the same AI as they do now, which is quite stupid indeed, and that enemies that could be supposed to be more clever actually would be more clever.
