According to the floorplan like NCsoft, Anet will also not be attending this year looks like that wait for more info on GW2 will now have to wait.

...bloody hell.

Could be because they are not ready to show GW2 yet.

Could be because they are not ready to show GW2 yet... and I am REALLY happy for that, for two reasons:
1. GW2 will be better, longer, deeper, and so on.
2. GW1 will be alive with a lot of players for a longer time.

hasn't it been speculated that they might be doing something at PAX, if anything? (total speculation/random memory here, so probably incorrect)

"Show" and "release" are two completely different things. We know (hope?) that they've made progress on GW2, but we haven't had any new information in 6 months? Give us something to be excited about; concept art, lore, anything.

In the lore area, I don't think there's much they can give unless they go back and put more backstory to some of the mysterious elements. (Mursaat, Forgotten, Seers, etc.) Otherwise they'd be telling us of the GW2 story, and that's not fun.

They have already given us the back-story with that PC gamer thingy.

Would be nice if they could show of some locations or cities from GW2 though.

I always assumed we'd be waiting for PAX to get anything new about GW2, so this isn't a surprise to me.

Also, revealing too much too early is worse than not hearing about it, so I'd even be happy to wait until I play the game to learn more. (Hmm... well, maybe I'd be happy to wait until the Beta... after that would be silly.)

People weren't seriously expecting to see anet show off GW2 at the E3 already.... right?

I mean, there's still such a thing as development time.

That and E3 was always a clusterf*** event because of how ridiculously large and loud it was. It used to be for the non-industry people like Kmart, Walmart, Target, etc. to come and see what the industry is doing and how they're growing. It's gotten to the point where that kind of event isn't needed anymore, and being the case of E3, they don't even have public access to it. Last year's E3 was just lame because no one even went to the booths. Which is why a lot of companies aren't going to it anymore. Our game has been in development for a year and some change now, and we're not going to E3.

Besides, developers get more press from things like magazines and journalists coming to their studios than to have an announcement at an event like that. It's cheaper and far more information can be given out.

If ANet said they were going to show a little bit of something at PAX, then I'd be a happy person

well, they did say there will be a beta for 08, so atleast something should be finished to show us.

Second half of 2008 can mean December and even then, if you compared early beta screenshots to the final version, it looks like 2 different games. There probably just isn't anything they can show at the moment. PAX is the best bet atm to atleast get some concept art and lore. Not counting on more then that personally.

And E3 is basically dead after they changed it.

Hopefully GW2 is going well and all.

But I'd be interested to see more on the Sylvari and some more info on the dragons.

NC Soft and ArenaNet are official sponsors of PAX (Penny Arcade Expo) in Seatle (see the right bar http://www.pennyarcadeexpo.com/index.php). Moreover, ArenaNet is based in Seatle (Bellevue), isn't it? Well, I can't imagine Guild Wars not at PAX! Impossible. Would they be late in the development schedule, they will have something to show august 29th. For sure.

I'm 95% certain something will be seen at PAX. I even seem to think there was a hint from someone on ANET staff about GW2 updates at PAX. I may have been imagining it.

Well, with the downsizing of E3 a couple years back, it's not that big a deal. PAX however...

ANet & NCSoft will be at the GC 2008 in Leipzig, as it is the big Games event in Europe in late August.
There is no info about what kind of GW/GW2 things they will show at that event yet.

Awesome picture. I love looking back at great games in their bare bones. But more to the point, it's worth mentioning that GW game out right before WoW went life if I recall correctly. WoW *did* change the market in that, at least developers believe, they have to release a finished, polished product for any hope of success.

Not saying I agree with that. But that seems to be the norm these days. Games are practically finishing, polishing in beta and then delaying their release to add an expansion these days. ;p Guild Wars 2 -may- follow the same trend.

But, on the other side of the coin, Anet isn't known for following the standard.

I agree with those who think that Anet is probably trying to avoid other franchises to copy their ideas at this point. Reading an article about Age of Conan the other day, I was impressed to see so many elements in that game that we are actually waiting for in GW2. I guess the need for secrecy is a matter of survival here. Well. The market is not what it was in 2004.
