Guild Wars 2 Digital Sales Open Once Again

Posted 10/09/12 by

Following the cracking launch and high sales, ArenaNet took down their online digital download sales of Guild Wars 2. The good news today is you can now purchase Guild Wars 2 once again online. ArenaNet has now added extra server capacity.

NCsoft®, the world’s premier publisher and developer of massively multiplayer online games (MMOs) and ArenaNet, developer of the renowned Guild Wars franchise, announced the reopening of sales of this year’s number-one hit title, Guild Wars 2. Starting today, gamers who have been searching for remaining copies of Guild Wars 2 will be able to join their friends in-game and experience what the entire industry is raving about, as the game is once again available for purchase through buy.guildwars2.com and numerous retail partners.

ArenaNet suspended first-party sales and retail replenishment on August 30—just two days after the game’s retail release—to catch up with record demand and to ensure that players who bought the game would continue to have the best online experience possible. Despite the suspension of first-party sales and retail replenishment, Guild Wars 2 grabbed the number one position in the All Formats charts across 10 European markets— the first PC game in the UK to have accomplished this in nearly two years.

Since suspending sales, ArenaNet and NCsoft have substantially expanded the game’s capacity by deploying new servers in both North America and Europe, and by nearly doubling the number of customer support agents. Game systems that have been under extremely heavy demand, such as the Trading Post, have been bolstered and prepared for the continued influx of players.

“Preserving the customer experience has always been our top priority,” said Mike O’Brien, president and cofounder of ArenaNet. “We’re supporting Guild Wars 2 for the long run. We’ll always do what it takes to deliver the best online gaming experience for our customers, even when that means throttling sales.”

Tim over at pcgamesn has written an article giving his thoughts on why Guild Wars 2 is streets ahead of the competition when it come to the MMO experience. He’s absoutely right in saying that cloning the WoW model is simply not good enough, we all know what happened to SWTOR.

Yesterday’s Malware Warnings

Posted 10/09/12 by

I wanted to post a quick update as some of you will have received malware warnings yesterday. Just to say that it was not GWO that was affected but another site on the IncGamers domain. This sometimes happens and sub-domains get incorrectly flagged. In light of the spate of recent account hackings on another fansite, I wanted to keep you up to date.

Also, as the GW2 account hacking is a problem and probably always will be, we have now got an external third-party organisation scanning the site continuously for any security holes or malware that may appear. It’s a little pricey but we feel it’s important to keep you all as safe as we can. Remember, never use your game password in the forums here, always better to be safe than sorry.
