Beta Stress Test on Monday 14th

A bit of a bonus for pre-purchase Beta testers as this Monday ArenaNet will be holding a stress test from 11 AM to 6:00 PM PDT (-7 GMT). Big day on Monday then, what with Diablo 3 also releasing.

We’ll be conducting a stress test on Monday May 14 from 11 AM to 6:00 PM PDT (-7 GMT).

This special test event is open only to Pre-Purchase customers who have registered their accounts. With your help, we can conduct important tests and address some of the issues we identified during our first Beta Weekend Event. During this event, all you need to do is play normally with a new or existing character on your Beta account using the same game client. Please note that since this is a stress test of our servers, you may experience some in-game performance issues. If you’ve pre-purchased Guild Wars 2 and wish to participate in the stress test, we recommend that you register the account and download the game client.

Pre-Purchase customers, log in to the Beta Forums for more information and/or to download the Beta client if needed.

US Digital Pre-orders Temporarily Sold Out

If you’re in the US I hope you got in nice and early with your pre-order because the digital pre-order are now temporarily “sold out”. Regina posted this a little while ago to explain the situation.

“We have sold out of keys for digital distribution in North America. GameStop and Best Buy still have stock available.

We limit sales to ensure we have enough capacity for our customers. We’re likely to have capacity available after the initial crunch at the start of the weekend. Players who purchase when we’re able to resume digital sales at buy.guildwars2.com will still be able to play for the remainder of the weekend”

European fans are not affected, you can still grab a pre-order of the digital version now.

Since the first press beta events, things have been busying up on GWO and we are reaching out to the community to find some new blood to join the team. We are currently looking for the following to help out.

News updaters - An integral part of the GWO experience, we are looking for a couple of newshounds to make sure that the main GWO page is always fresh with the latest news about Guild Wars 2, whether it’s official news, game news or newsworthy stories from the Guild Wars community.

Bloggers – We already have a great blogging team posting their thoughts on the game here on the main page but we are always looking for new blood wanting to join the team. Perhaps you have a keen interest in a specific profession or PvP and want to share your thoughts and experiences with the Guild Wars community.

Game Informer has posted a 30 minute video with ArenaNet’s Jonathan Sharp who talks them through the gameplay.

The video below touches on a few of Guild Wars 2′s most important elements. Curious about how the game eschews traditional MMO leveling content, or how the combat system works, or what the scoop on the massive “world vs. world” open-world PvP battles is? The Standard/Digital Edition:

Guild Wars 2 EU Fanday Concludes

NCSoft Explain Pricing Discrepancy with CE in US and Europe

Guild Wars 2 Collector Edition Contents. Pricing $149.99.

As many of you wil have noiticed, it’s more expensive to get your hands on a CE of Guild Wars 2 if you are in Europe. So why is that? NCSoft has commented on this because the CE costs $149.99 in the US and €149.99/£129.99 in Europe. With the with the excahnge rate you can see it’s a lot cheaper to buy in the US.  So why is this? Well it’s all down to distribution and local taxes according to NCSoft.

“Currency fluctuations, distribution costs, taxes and market conditions in addition to the cost of goods are all contributing factors when setting pricing. These vary dramatically between NA and EU and our pricing is competitive and adjusted accordingly.”

Sadly it looks like EU gamers are being shortchanged again but NCSoft does have a point, it is generally more expensive this side of the pond.
