Telegraphing 101: A Lesson in Boss Design with Prof. Diablo

Posted 18/06/12 by

oo scarryyy

Warning: This article details the Act 1 boss encounter of Diablo 3. If you haven’t played the game yet and you’re spoilerphobic, you may not wish to read this.

So now that the second GW2 beta weekend is behind us and we’ve had a chance to process everything and settle down, most people have gone back to killing time in other, less exciting, games until the third beta starts. And since the majority of gamers are more or less done with Guild Wars 1 and/or World of Wacraft, that leaves us with the newest Blizzard behemoth to spend some time with: Diablo 3. After finishing off a few acts in Hell difficulty during my last play session, something stuck out in my mind with regards to how boss fights are played out. Diablo 3′s implementation of boss mechanics (and how it conveys the abilities which might one-shot you) are done exceptionally well, while on the other hand.. GW2 has somewhat dropped the ball so far. Or if you’re on the receiving end of a champion’s attention, it would be more accurate to say they’ve dropped the health globe. ..Instantly.

But wait, don’t roll your eyes, cry scrub, and scroll past just yet. Hear me out.

Waiting for the next BWE.

My name is Chris Whiteside, and I’m the lead producer of Guild Wars 2. Normally, I’m head-down in the trenches, making sure we’re producing the best MMO possible, but I wanted to come up for air and share some exciting news with you:

Beta Weekend Event 2 will begin on Friday, June 8th, at noon PDT (GMT-7) and will run until Sunday, June 10th, at 11:59 p.m. PDT (GMT-7).

For Future Refugees of Azeroth and The Republic

Raye Lestrange taking a break from the fighting to enjoy Divinity's Reach.

You know how some games are announced, hailed as the savior of the genre, hyped to absolutely absurd levels, and praised at every turn? Then the time comes and you’re finally able to play it, only to find that it completely sucks, is an entirely different game from what the previews promised, and has crushed all the excitement you had for it?

Well relax, Guild Wars 2 is absolutely nothing like that.

Anet Blog: Choosing and Transferring Worlds in GW2

Posted 25/04/12 by

ArenaNet has posted a blog detailing server selection, including a list of servers at launch:
http://www.arena.net/blog/choosing-and-transferring-worlds-in-guild-wars-2

For our first Beta Weekend Event (April 27-29), home-world selection and world transfers will work just as they will when Guild Wars 2 launches.

When you log in to the game for the first time, you will have the opportunity to pick any available server, or home world. If you choose to select a home world that is in a different region from where you purchased your game, you will be logged out for a short period of time while your account is moved to your new region. Once you have selected a home world, all the characters you create will play on this world and will represent it in our world-versus-world (WvW) format.

Needless to say, there are a lot of important tidbits to be found in this post, so make sure to check it out and discuss server selection in the forums!
