Effigy Lighting, ArenaNet videos, Mist League

Posted 15/06/13 by

Just say NO to dragons! Both the climax of the current Dragon Bash event and start off point for the next Dragon Bash event, the single person instance, Memories on the Pyre is coming on June 18th. Be sure to come see them set fire to the effigy!

Anet also celebrated Drgaon Bash at the 2013 Role Play Convention in Cologne, Germany (click for story and video). And you may recall all the dragon pinata videos they posted a few days ago…well they saved one for themselves and posted it today too. Fun stuff!

Mist League actually starts their first season today, June 15th at 11am Pacific (6pm UTC), and it has not already started as I said in my last post. Check out their Twitch.TV channel to watch!

And recent GWOnline original content:
Alaris’ write up on the game he is making * Guided Daggers’ Event Notifier (Forum thread) * Gorani’s Elementalist Focus write up (Forum thread) * Nemeon’s forum post on Combos in GW2 * Gorani on Elementalist Conjures (Forum thread)

He Did the Bash! …. He Did the Dragon Bash!

Posted 10/06/13 by

I think there's a crafting recipe some where in this stanza!

Double, double toil and trouble; Fire burn, and caldron bubble.

Anet just released a compilation of Dragon Pinata bashing videos. We posted one by Curse here last week, and Anet says “the results were as epic as they were varied.” Check them out then come to the forums and join in our chat about the new Dragon Bash event.

Speaking of the Dragon Bash, Anet also just had a preview on TwitchTV with Will Fairfield. They have part 1 up here (about 21 minutes) and part 2 here (about 14 minutes).

On a more serious note, GWOnline forum member Rob Van Der Sloot just started a thread giving his thoughts on the really big problems with Guild Wars 2′s game play mechanics. Please have a read and tell us what you think.

Two quick notes: Check out the following GWOnline content:
Forum member Guided Daggers’ Event Notifier using the new APIs. Forum thread for more info.
Elementalist Forum Moderator Gorani’s great new piece explaining why the Ele Focus is weak and how to fix it.

Remember to finish up your Southsun Cove events, while a lot of stuff will stay after tomorrow, not all of it will.

Future of WvW, Dragon Bash, GW2 Videos

Posted 05/06/13 by

Devon Carver has just posted a new update on the status and future of World vs. World. Click here to read it, or you can see the text in our forums as well as comment on the post yourself! Title headings to whet your appetite: Current State | Future Plans | Player Roles | Zergs | Variety | Siege | And More…?

Last Stand at Southsun Cove is finishing up
with the big Karka Queen event live. Remember that not all of this content is permanent, so check it out soon if you want to try out anything that isn’t sticking around. Next update is June 11th, so that’s probably the deadline. Harvest Sickle is available until June 24th too, FYI. If you want to complain or praise it, click here to be heard! Anet also just released a new video about Southsun’s creation and future effects and lore. Clickly linky.

Show me.

I know Kung Fu!

As noted below Dragon Bash has been announced and will be hitting the game on June 11th. Come tell us what you think about it in the forum. For GW1 vets, DRAGON ARENA is back! And you can bet on Moa races! lol Sounds like a lot of fun.

Speaking of fun, here are a few funny or interesting GW2 fan created videos/costumes and what not:
Youtube video by Sharm who rewrote and performed Les Miserables’ Castle on a Cloud in honor of the Guild Bounty for Poobadoo. Les Poobadoo.

GW2 fans Liza K. & Sophie L. will represent the Netherlands at the European Cosplay Gathering for their portrayal of Caithe and Faolain.

Also, apparently Anet sent out some Dragon pinata’s to various media outlets to promote Dragon Bash. Here’s the video Curse put up of the unboxing and demolition of their pinata. Pretty funny.

I killed one, Rick... the thing I love most in the world.

Fae…that’s a good look for you.

And GWOnline forum Moderator and frequent WvW poster, Fae, helps show off the new Panda Hat in the gemstore. (Bear and Quaggan hats are available too.)

To close this out, we had some recent GWOnline content you should check out:
Forum member Guided Daggers had made an Event Notifier with the new APIs Anet has released. Forum thread for more info.

And Elementalist Forum Moderator Gorani has also put out a great new piece explaining why the Ele Focus is weak and how to fix it. I really like these kinds pieces as the also usually help you understand the finer details of general game play too.

You’ll only find this adorable helmed version of the moa mini during Dragon Bash! Purchase this mini with vouchers earned from the Moa Racing activity.

New Features in this Release
Fight to Keep Your Spot on the PvP Leaderboards
We’ve improved the way that the PvP leaderboards reflect excellence! Inactive players will automatically start to slip down the leaderboards over time, allowing new and active players an opportunity to fight their way up to a higher rank. This means that the leaderboards will more accurately represent the best PvP players.

Authorized Shoutcaster Program
In the new Authorized Shoutcaster Program, when highly rated PvP teams are matched-up in rated play, authorized shoutcasters will receive a notification and be allowed to enter that match as a spectator to bring you the action on a slight time delay.

Custom Arena and Spectator Mode Videos! Also a Few Dev Notes and a Fan Video Parody.

Posted 30/04/13 by

ArenaNet has released some short videos to help introduce the beta versions of Custom Arenas and Spectator Mode which will be in the April 30th update. (Also, scroll down a little for some developer comments about these new features and Leaderboards, SAB and a few other things including a great parody SAB achievement guide.)

Custom Arenas:

Spectator Mode:

Looks pretty polished to me. You’ll see below there are some things they are already thinking of adding. Come to the forum and tell us what you think of shoutcasting or any other features you’d like to see added to these new features!

Per Jonathan Sharp:

John Corpening, our PvP team coordinator, is in the first vid. I’m in the second vid. Jon Peters, also a design lead, also does a lot of help w/ PvP and balance. Hope that clears it up!

If you don’t want people to see your builds, just disable spec mode when setting your Custom Arena parameters. Source.

Very cool new PVP feature: Mini map will now use profession icons instead of dots to represent your teammates. In Spectator Mode, both teams will show up like that. This works in ANY sPVP map! Source1, Source2.

Things they are already considering adding to Spectator Mode
: Free Camera. Being able to spectate from downed players POV. Auto mode that switches cameras for you.

Other notes:
Leaderboards and Trial Accounts. Trial accounts will be removed from the leaderboards, but if you upgrade your trial account to a full game, then your trial account activity will be retained and count toward your account’s leaderboard activity (if you link the full game to your trial account. Per Martin Kerstein.

The actual April 30th update is what will make SAB disappear
. It is not going away at a set time. Source.

Speaking of SAB, you have to check out the following fan made parody achievement guide video. I thought it started off a little slow, but around the 3 minute mark, it starts creating GW2 comedy gold! Amazing work ZoCks!

Lastly, here are links to some of our most recent GWOnline created content. Hope you find them interesting and you can just click the forum link after each feature if you want to comment or see discussion about the topics. The 10 Tips link in particular has some great follow up posts by our members.

Weekend Roundup

Posted 28/04/13 by

GWOnline’s own Alaris just posted a great piece on how to learn to play GW2 better. Reminded me again that I really need to learn to combo better. Check it out and then join the discussion in our forums!

https://forum-fr.guildwars2.com/forum/community/fangen/Artwork-Fan-art-by-Ashline-1

Beautiful fan art of an Asura from Ashline!

GuildWars2Guru.com held a State of the Game on Friday with Jonathan Sharp & Karl McLain from Anet focusing on the tPVP changes in the April 30th update.Click here to watch the 120 minute video on Youtube. (They started late, so the link skips about 1:35 of not much happening.) Great stuff about changes to signets, Warriors, traits for a few different professions, WvW and PVE effect split for Retaliation and Confusion and lots more. This will be a big balance update too. To give the meta time to settle down there will not be many balance changes for the May patch; they will be focusing on bug fixes instead.

There will be Wiki Maintenance (GW1 & GW2) on May 8th from 4pm to midnite UTC (9am to 5pm Pacific). For the first two hours of the maintenance, both English wikis will be unavailable, then in read only mode for the rest of the time. All non-English GW2 wikis will be read only during the entire duration. They will be upgrading to MediaWiki version 1.20.4

GuildWars2Hub.com has put out an easy to read guide to Runes to help get you started on learning how they work.

Gamersbook is giving away copies of Guild Wars 2 and some TteSPORTS gaming peripherals. While the first copy of the game is being awarded today, they have 4 more copies being awarded throughout May and after that some nice gaming peripherals. There are a few steps to take, but hey, free stuff! Click here to see the rules and to enter.

Laura Vk, Loes Schubert, and Kelsey Hendriks have done some amazing cosplay costume work and put it up on Laura Vk’s Facebook page. Amazing amount of detail, you should really check it out.

See you all in game and don’t forget that Super Adventure Box goes away with the April 30 patch in just a couple days and while the full version of World 2 should be out in a few months (ie. “when it’s done”), there’s a good chance the World 1 skins won’t be coming back any time soon.

London 2013 Community Meet and Greet Q&A with special Guest Colin Johanson

Posted 24/02/13 by

“Hey, wanna go to London?” I was asked, it’s not my most favourite of places so I was hesitant. “Wanna go to London to have lunch with ANet?” Okay, you’ve got my attention.

A luxurious train ride down to the capital city and before I know it I’m in a bar restaurant with a few other Guild Wars 2 fans awaiting the rest of our group, the ArenaNet guys and the guest of honour, Colin Johanson. We chatter amongst ourselves for some time and eventually Colin arrives with a giant beaming smiley, naturally. By pure dumb luck I get the best seat in the house with Colin sat to my left. I may have squealed a little inside (and outside).

GWOnline Events – January Update

Posted 28/12/12 by

Just a quick update this time around everyone. Although Christmas and Wintersday is wrapping up the holiday season is still in full swing for many of us and it is with that in mind that we have decided not to hold any events for January. To compensate for this however the events from December will have their deadline extended to Midnight on January 31st 2013 (UTC). This will not include the Monthly Events race however which will end this month as usual, it is also worth noting a monthly event race will not feature in January.
This means there is still heaps of time to get your entries in. For details on the events currently available and how to enter head on down to this post.

Enjoy your holidays and we will see you all next time!
