GWOnline Events – January Update

Posted 28/12/12 by

Just a quick update this time around everyone. Although Christmas and Wintersday is wrapping up the holiday season is still in full swing for many of us and it is with that in mind that we have decided not to hold any events for January. To compensate for this however the events from December will have their deadline extended to Midnight on January 31st 2013 (UTC). This will not include the Monthly Events race however which will end this month as usual, it is also worth noting a monthly event race will not feature in January.
This means there is still heaps of time to get your entries in. For details on the events currently available and how to enter head on down to this post.

Enjoy your holidays and we will see you all next time!

GWOnline Events – December Update

Posted 29/11/12 by

Welcome back for December’s update on our now monthly round of contests and competitions, or as we like to call them; events. Firstly lets check over Novembers happenings:

Unfortunately we again had technical difficulties on our part involving the Hide and Seek event, we have therefore decided to postpone the event until server guesting is implemented. The staff really want this one to happen and as soon as we can begin hosting it we will let you know. We rolled out a new Screenshot Contest where we had you taking a screenshot of your player in action. As of writing there were only 2 entries (the contest awards the top 3 participants) but its still open! Get your entry in quick for consideration. We also continued our Monthly Achievement Race where we had you racing to be the first to finish your monthly achievements. At the time of writing we have had NO entries however, if you enter now you could win as the contest awards a prize to the first to enter rather than the first to finish.

Raye’s entry for Novembers Screenshot Contest

These contests are open until Midnight on Friday 30th November (UTC) so there is still time to get your entry in! See Novembers post for details on how to enter.

For December we are running three events, the Monthly Achievement Race and the Screenshot Contest will return and we are introducing a new ‘creative writing’ style event. Read on to find out more…

Winners in GWOnline’s BWE2 Key Giveaway

Posted 05/06/12 by

Yesterday at the stroke of midnight (PDT) we closed our very own Guild Wars 2 Beta Weekend 2 key giveaway, and quickly drew the winners using a true random sequence generator. We wish to again thank ArenaNet for this opportunity to put a smile on the faces of 20 community members. Our only wish would be that we could have given one to all the entries!

We had three ways to enter, all giving equal chance for a win. Most people opted for the Twitter password (“Mirror Images”) whereas only one found the password hidden at the forum (“Primordus”) in a thread showing an amazingly detailed papercraft Mesmer model by community member Convex. And in between there were a bunch of people who showed us their way with words and posted limericks.

Here are some of the limericks posted. For some reason Asura and Norn seemed to be reccurring themes ;)

There once was an kid from Rata Sum,
whose very first Golem made an odd hum.
He took it to a squabling Krewe
and before they all knew
a blast knocked’em all back on their bum.
- Sir Jack

There once was an Asura named Stort
Who was so unreasonably short
All the others called him names
and played cruel little games
So he sued them and took them to court
- poketama

There once was a happy Norn,
Who sat on a big *** thorn,
He let out a yell:
“This hurts like hell”
And he wasn’t happy no more
- GrungeLord

How much the small Norn has grown
He wanted to make sure it was shown
A big rock he could pick
He threw like a stick
An Asura was squished by what was thrown
- tcgrad

List of all the winners.

If I Were In Guild Wars 2 Beta – Jono Mozza’s Story

Posted 09/03/12 by

[As promised here is the blog post of the second runner-up in our very first GWOnline Blog Extravaganza - Jono Mozza! This concludes the front page posts for this time, but do make sure to check out the rest of the contestants, as well as other bloggers, over at our Community Blog section.]

The first rule of the Guild Wars 2 beta is: you do not talk about the Guild Wars 2 beta.
The second rule of the Guild Wars 2 beta is: you DO NOT talk about the Guild Wars 2 beta.

That isn’t just me trying to slip in a Fight Club reference, I’m serious. The Non Disclosure Agreement makes sure of that. So I guess I’ll get my coat… Oh, well, okay, I’ll tell you what I’d do. But if I do get in, I won’t actually tell you what I did. Or even that I got in.

If I Were In Guild Wars 2 Beta – Art Yi Mor’s Story

Posted 08/03/12 by

[Art Yi Mor was the first runner-up in our very first GWOnline Blog Extravaganza. Here is his blog post.]

Were I to be one of the lucky few to get into the beta of Guild Wars 2…

…A man can dream can’t he?

First off I’d do as I’m asked – they are needing people to test it for a reason and them choosing me and my below par rig would mean they want me to perform tasks and report back on how my system handled it.

If I Were In Guild Wars 2 Beta – Shawn’s story

Posted 07/03/12 by

[As promised, here is the winning blog post on the topic of "If I Were In Guild Wars 2 Beta", penned by Shawn and slightly edited for the front page. Stay tuned for the first and second runner ups!]

If I were in the Guild Wars 2 beta, well.. it would probably play out similar to my previous ArenaNet testing experiences. I’ve been an alpha tester of Factions and Nightfall, as well as on the Test Krewe. This testing thing is old hat, to be honest.

While I can’t give specifics from anything while I was in, some general information was obvious even from before then. Members of my then-guild would run off into Ventrilo’s passworded alpha channel at certain times, saying it was “all call” time, but nothing else. Of course, now I know the specifics of this, and how they compile their feedback. Perhaps I should turn this around, and say what you should do if you get in the Guild Wars 2 beta.

GWOnline Blog Extravaganza Winners!

Posted 04/03/12 by

Our very first GWOnline Blog Extravaganza is now judged, and the winners are found. We got seven brave contestants who all wrote a blog post on the topic of “If I were in Guild Wars 2 Beta”. Some great ideas there, so something to read for the lucky people who do get in to the beta later this month. It was not easy to find our winner and two runner-ups. But we did, and here they are:

  • First place, and winner of an everlasting Reindeer tonic for Guild Wars 1 and a very special forum title: Shawn! (Still not sure if the blog design helped or hurt though).
  • First runner-up, and winner of a forum title: Art Yi Mor!
  • Second runner-up, and also winner of a forum title: Jono Mozza!

Stay tuned this week as we will post these blog posts on the front page, and make sure to check back later on for another round of GWOnline Blog Extravaganza!
