London 2013 Community Meet and Greet Q&A with special Guest Colin Johanson

Posted 24/02/13 by

“Hey, wanna go to London?” I was asked, it’s not my most favourite of places so I was hesitant. “Wanna go to London to have lunch with ANet?” Okay, you’ve got my attention.

A luxurious train ride down to the capital city and before I know it I’m in a bar restaurant with a few other Guild Wars 2 fans awaiting the rest of our group, the ArenaNet guys and the guest of honour, Colin Johanson. We chatter amongst ourselves for some time and eventually Colin arrives with a giant beaming smiley, naturally. By pure dumb luck I get the best seat in the house with Colin sat to my left. I may have squealed a little inside (and outside).

GWOnline Events – January Update

Posted 28/12/12 by

Just a quick update this time around everyone. Although Christmas and Wintersday is wrapping up the holiday season is still in full swing for many of us and it is with that in mind that we have decided not to hold any events for January. To compensate for this however the events from December will have their deadline extended to Midnight on January 31st 2013 (UTC). This will not include the Monthly Events race however which will end this month as usual, it is also worth noting a monthly event race will not feature in January.
This means there is still heaps of time to get your entries in. For details on the events currently available and how to enter head on down to this post.

Enjoy your holidays and we will see you all next time!

More Lost Shores Details

Posted 12/11/12 by

A load of info for the Lost Shores update has come our way today detailing more of the new content that’s coming this week.

As well as the new Karka enemy who are rising from the depths to wreak havok on Tyria, there’s a new PvP map set within a Kodan dojo, new gear which includes weapons, item enhancements, a new tier of items called Ascended which are set between Exotic and Legendary, and a new resource which brings 200 new recipes to the game for crafters.

More details on the new dungeon called Fractals of the Mists have also surfaced. The dungeon is made up of nine smaller dungeons which players will take on three at a time. Once three are complete the party is sent to a hub to recuperate. The dungeon difficulty is then raised and special boss encounters occur when the difficult hits an even number.

In related news, Massively has also posted details on some of the new features.

GWOnline Events – November Update

Posted 05/11/12 by

Greetings all!

For those who missed the original post last month GWOnline has begun hosted a range of in-game events for all of you to participate in. In October we held the Monthly Achievement Race (which we had no entries for, remember you’ve got to be in to win!) and we also planned to host a version of Hide and Seek but were unable to due to technicalities on our end.

In terms of prizes we think that Large/Heavy Loot bags and Dungeon Tonics work well. This month we may be able to organise Candy Corn and rare Halloween crafting materials for prizes as well. If you have any suggestions on items that would work well as prizes please let us know.

So what is in store for November? Read on and find out…

2012 Wintersday Advent Calendar Being Planned

Posted 12/10/12 by

Back in 2007, the fan artists of GWOnline and GWGuru came together and created a Guild Wars Wintersday Advent Calendar. Perynne, the organizer of the last advent calendar, is again organizing an advent calendar for this year in Guild Wars 2 theme and is looking for artists of any skill levels and any specialty.

The calendar will feature 24 different artists for each day, and so far there are 12 artists with the Wintersday fun in their hearts. The calendar showcases all sorts of art pieces: novice and advanced, analog and digital, painting and crafting, comical and serious, drawn, screenshotted, and collaged.

If you are interested in participating, inquire with Perynne or in the appropriate thread in the Fan Arts forum.

There are also Twitter and Facebook pages you can follow, MS Walks out in the afk world, and of course all donations to the MS Society are much appreciated.

Once again, Gamers Giving Back and the Gaming World Entertainment Network will be hosting the MS Toga Party! The event is a charity fundraising event, hosted within the game Guild Wars. Its aim is to raise awareness and support for those who are effected by Multiple Sclerosis. The event takes place in April to coincide with the North American Wide Supercities MS Walks. GWOnline Community Feature – Rhonda a.k.a. Malibu Barbie

Posted 01/02/12 by
Colin and Barbie at PAX

The two finalists in the PAX 2011 "Biggest smile" competition, Rhonda and Colin Johanson.

For this next installment of the GWOnline Community Features we had a chat with Rhonda, also known as Malibu Barbie to the Guild Wars community. Rhonda is one of the central figures of the “Pink Day in LA” events in Guild Wars 1, and we were of course thrilled to hear that she and the Gaming World Entertainment Network (GW-EN) are planning to take their good cheer and community spirit on to Guild Wars 2.

GWOnline: Could you tell us a little about the history of the Gaming World Entertainment Network and the Gamers Giving Back organization?

Rhonda: I wanted to create something unique for video gamers to break the stereotypes that we are all lazy and do nothing all day. I wanted to show what big hearts we have. So initially Gamers Giving Back was the first idea that came to mind. From there I decided to combine it with the idea of GW-EN. The combination of the two really seemed to work well together.
