Custom Arena and Spectator Mode Videos! Also a Few Dev Notes and a Fan Video Parody.

ArenaNet has released some short videos to help introduce the beta versions of Custom Arenas and Spectator Mode which will be in the April 30th update. (Also, scroll down a little for some developer comments about these new features and Leaderboards, SAB and a few other things including a great parody SAB achievement guide.)

Looks pretty polished to me. You’ll see below there are some things they are already thinking of adding. Come to the forum and tell us what you think of shoutcasting or any other features you’d like to see added to these new features!

Per Jonathan Sharp:

John Corpening, our PvP team coordinator, is in the first vid. I’m in the second vid. Jon Peters, also a design lead, also does a lot of help w/ PvP and balance. Hope that clears it up!

If you don’t want people to see your builds, just disable spec mode when setting your Custom Arena parameters. Source.

Very cool new PVP feature: Mini map will now use profession icons instead of dots to represent your teammates. In Spectator Mode, both teams will show up like that. This works in ANY sPVP map! Source1, Source2.

Things they are already considering adding to Spectator Mode: Free Camera. Being able to spectate from downed players POV. Auto mode that switches cameras for you.

Other notes:
Leaderboards and Trial Accounts. Trial accounts will be removed from the leaderboards, but if you upgrade your trial account to a full game, then your trial account activity will be retained and count toward your account’s leaderboard activity (if you link the full game to your trial account. Per Martin Kerstein.

The actual April 30th update is what will make SAB disappear. It is not going away at a set time. Source.

Speaking of SAB, you have to check out the following fan made parody achievement guide video. I thought it started off a little slow, but around the 3 minute mark, it starts creating GW2 comedy gold! Amazing work ZoCks!

Wintersday Videos & Impressions

No doubt you are all having fun in Wintersday discovering all the new content. Silent Storm has posted some new videos on GWOTV which are well worth checking out, especially the jumping puzzle video.

The Wintersday Advent Calendar is Here!

2012 Wintersday Advent Calendar Being Planned

Back in 2007, the fan artists of GWOnline and GWGuru came together and created a Guild Wars Wintersday Advent Calendar. Perynne, the organizer of the last advent calendar, is again organizing an advent calendar for this year in Guild Wars 2 theme and is looking for artists of any skill levels and any specialty.

The calendar will feature 24 different artists for each day, and so far there are 12 artists with the Wintersday fun in their hearts. The calendar showcases all sorts of art pieces: novice and advanced, analog and digital, painting and crafting, comical and serious, drawn, screenshotted, and collaged.

If you are interested in participating, inquire with Perynne or in the appropriate thread in the Fan Arts forum.

Fan-Made Guild Wars 2 Music Videos

Today we are spotlighting two awesome fan made Guild Wars 2 music videos. First out are Taylor, Lara, and Malukah who made their own cover on the GW2 theme song “Fear Not This Night”, some say it is even better than the original.

And then there are Verse Academy, with what can only be described as an epic rap. Original content at it’s very finest, and I for one cannot wait to hear more.

Guild Wars Dance Party

Now that Guild Wars 2 is drawing ever nearer, those of us who played the original Guild Wars might be getting a bit sentimental. An end of an era and all that. I know I am. This awesome fan made Guild Wars dance video by YouTuber eeglfethr therefore struck a cord with me. Here’s to all the awesome dance parties we had in Guild Wars (clothes optional), and to all the awesome dance parties we will have in Guild Wars 2!

Since the first press beta events, things have been busying up on GWO and we are reaching out to the community to find some new blood to join the team. We are currently looking for the following to help out.

News updaters - An integral part of the GWO experience, we are looking for a couple of newshounds to make sure that the main GWO page is always fresh with the latest news about Guild Wars 2, whether it’s official news, game news or newsworthy stories from the Guild Wars community.

Bloggers – We already have a great blogging team posting their thoughts on the game here on the main page but we are always looking for new blood wanting to join the team. Perhaps you have a keen interest in a specific profession or PvP and want to share your thoughts and experiences with the Guild Wars community.

By now everyone should know that the Guild Wars 2 Beta signup has started. To mark this momentous occasion, we here at GWOnline decided to host our first ever “GWOnline Blog Extravaganza” contest!

The rules are simple. You make a blog post in the Community Blog section titled:

“GWOnline Blog Extravaganza – If I Were In Guild Wars 2 Beta”.
One post per person. You can edit it as many times as you like but the post as it stands one week from now, i.e. the leap day or February 29 PST midnight, is the one that counts.
