GWOnline Events – December Update

Posted 29/11/12 by

Welcome back for December’s update on our now monthly round of contests and competitions, or as we like to call them; events. Firstly lets check over Novembers happenings:

Unfortunately we again had technical difficulties on our part involving the Hide and Seek event, we have therefore decided to postpone the event until server guesting is implemented. The staff really want this one to happen and as soon as we can begin hosting it we will let you know. We rolled out a new Screenshot Contest where we had you taking a screenshot of your player in action. As of writing there were only 2 entries (the contest awards the top 3 participants) but its still open! Get your entry in quick for consideration. We also continued our Monthly Achievement Race where we had you racing to be the first to finish your monthly achievements. At the time of writing we have had NO entries however, if you enter now you could win as the contest awards a prize to the first to enter rather than the first to finish.

Raye’s entry for Novembers Screenshot Contest

These contests are open until Midnight on Friday 30th November (UTC) so there is still time to get your entry in! See Novembers post for details on how to enter.

For December we are running three events, the Monthly Achievement Race and the Screenshot Contest will return and we are introducing a new ‘creative writing’ style event. Read on to find out more…

More Lost Shores Details

Posted 12/11/12 by

A load of info for the Lost Shores update has come our way today detailing more of the new content that’s coming this week.

As well as the new Karka enemy who are rising from the depths to wreak havok on Tyria, there’s a new PvP map set within a Kodan dojo, new gear which includes weapons, item enhancements, a new tier of items called Ascended which are set between Exotic and Legendary, and a new resource which brings 200 new recipes to the game for crafters.

More details on the new dungeon called Fractals of the Mists have also surfaced. The dungeon is made up of nine smaller dungeons which players will take on three at a time. Once three are complete the party is sent to a hub to recuperate. The dungeon difficulty is then raised and special boss encounters occur when the difficult hits an even number.

In related news, Massively has also posted details on some of the new features.

November Event Schedule

Posted 06/11/12 by

Important note from ArenaNet regarding this month’s event. Make sure you have the times noted so you don’t miss anything.

>Something is stirring in the Sea of Sorrows – and we want to make sure that you are not missing out, so here is a schedule (without spoilers) for you, so you can plan ahead:

  • On Friday November 16th at noon PST (20:00 GMT) the weekend will kick off with an Event in Lion’s Arch that you don’t want to miss. This will trigger events in other parts of Tyria as well.
*On Saturday November 17th at noon PST (20:00 GMT), another phase will kick in.
Each phase is triggered by a special event, but you will be able to enjoy additional content afterwards even if you cannot make the kick-off time. There is one exception:

The event will culminate in a big Finale on Sunday November 18, make sure you will not miss it. This will be a onetime only event chain that will run multiple hours, and it will kick off at noon PST (20:00 GMT). Again, this will only run once, so make sure you will be there! There will be plenty of content available to enjoy that will remain permanently in the world as a result of the outcome of this event on Sunday.

We will give you more details once we get closer to the event, but wanted to give you an early heads up so you can plan accordingly.

BOOM! (or How I Came to Love the Engineer)

Posted 03/09/12 by

It’s been over a week since the head start and I can safely say that my favourite profession, thus far, is the Engineer. The liberal use of high explosives this profession has aside, the main reason I’ve been enjoying the Engineer is the sheer amount of versatility that it has at its disposal.

The Edge Project

Posted 24/08/12 by

The Edge Project is a new idea that comes straight from the community for the community. The nature of Guild Wars 2 has a huge focus on story and character we thought we would do the same here. I’m Azure by the way and I would like to introduce you to GWOnline’s new community project called ‘Edge’

As we all know with Guild Wars 2, the developers wanted to tell the player a story, our own personal ones, so we thought we should start telling stories ourselves. What we’ve come up with is a cross between a blog, a let’s play, and fan fiction. Essentially the project involves a large number of gamers, writing about their experiences in game as the character. However, this is just the scratching the surface; this whole project focuses on you, the community.

Destiny's Edge

Tell your story in the Edge project.

The Beginner’s Guide to World vs World Tactics #1

Posted 09/07/12 by

To the new players, World vs World (WvW) can be daunting. It has that effect on me, but that’s usually when I’m solo defending a failing tower. I don’t want new players running around like chickens with their heads cut off.  I have two reasons for this,

  1. Unorganized players risk helping the enemy and I don’t want to lose
  2. I want you to be able to kick ass and feel great doing it

Now how do you go about reclaiming your head and kicking ass? Simple, take notes of these tips I’m going to be giving you. Before I get to tip #1 though, I want to explain how WvW works briefly. There are 4 maps total, 3 Borderlands maps, and 1 Eternal Battleground map. You fight using siege warfare to take keeps, towers, and supply camps from the enemy. You also can take control of an Orb of Power, which provides everyone in your world with a boost. Each of these is worth a set amount of points that add to your total every 5 minutes. You can find their point values below,

Telegraphing 101: A Lesson in Boss Design with Prof. Diablo

Posted 18/06/12 by

oo scarryyy

Warning: This article details the Act 1 boss encounter of Diablo 3. If you haven’t played the game yet and you’re spoilerphobic, you may not wish to read this.

So now that the second GW2 beta weekend is behind us and we’ve had a chance to process everything and settle down, most people have gone back to killing time in other, less exciting, games until the third beta starts. And since the majority of gamers are more or less done with Guild Wars 1 and/or World of Wacraft, that leaves us with the newest Blizzard behemoth to spend some time with: Diablo 3. After finishing off a few acts in Hell difficulty during my last play session, something stuck out in my mind with regards to how boss fights are played out. Diablo 3′s implementation of boss mechanics (and how it conveys the abilities which might one-shot you) are done exceptionally well, while on the other hand.. GW2 has somewhat dropped the ball so far. Or if you’re on the receiving end of a champion’s attention, it would be more accurate to say they’ve dropped the health globe. ..Instantly.

But wait, don’t roll your eyes, cry scrub, and scroll past just yet. Hear me out.
