Queen’s Jubilee is now live – Celebrate Jennah’s rule

The Queen’s Jubilee celebrations are now live so it’s time to get online and start playing all thew new content which includes…

In Queen’s Jubilee, players will celebrate 10 years of Queen Jennah’s rule by opting to take a hot air balloon to Divinity’s Reach, the capital of the human nation of Kryta, and home to the opening ceremony. Once there, players can join the festivities and compete in ceremonial combat in the Crown Pavilion, a new gladiatorial arena Queen Jennah has commissioned for the occasion.

New Events

  • Hot Air Balloons: Queen Jennah’s court has sent hot air balloons to transport the inhabitants of Tyria to the celebration. Players can find the hot air balloons in the open world and hop onfor a fun, quick and stylish ride to the party.
  • The Opening Ceremony: Players can attend the dedication of the Crown Pavilion, a new gladiatorial arena the queen has commissioned for the celebration, and watch its inaugural contest.
  • Enter the Crown Pavilion: Players will be tested in this new mini-zone that feature mighty representations of humanity’s enemies. Representing various cities of Tyria, players can be named champion of a nation and gain access to unique reward vendors.
  • Fight in the Queen’s Gauntlet:In single combat, players can attempt to defeat increasingly difficult challenges against unique bosses. Taking risks with special gambit conditions will earn more prestigious rewards.

New Rewards

  • Watchwork Mechanisms: Watchwork technology – the latest and greatest innovation in Tyria – becomes more important as players can use watchwork parts in new crafting recipes or as currency to buy items like new rune and sigil recipes, Watchknight tonics and the new Sovereign Weapon Set.
  • Watchknight Mini: Completing the Queen’s Jubilee meta-achievement will earn players a miniature Watchknight modelled after the queen’s new mechanical sentinels.

New Features

  • Account Wallet for Currency: Players can now keep all of their currencies in one wallet that makes dungeon tokens, coins, karma, laurels, Guild Commendations, Fractal Relics, Badges of Honour, gems and glory accessible to any of the characters on their account.
  • PvP Solo Arena: With new Solo Arena, players can join PvP matches in a competitive environment without having to gather a full team or fight against a pre-formed group. The Solo Arena also features its own leaderboard, so that players can earn rank without affecting their Team Arena standings.
  • New Dungeons Bonus Rewards: Now, there’s even more incentive for braving the dungeons of Tyria. Each day, when finishing a unique path for any explorable or story dungeon, players will receive a bonus reward for completion, improving upon the existing system.
  • Mini-Game Rotation System: Players can take part in the new, daily mini-game rotation that was promised by both of the Captain’s Council candidates in the previous update. The initial rotation includes Sanctum Sprint, Keg Brawl, Southsun Survival and Crab Toss.

  • That just in from the last patch today:

Queen’s Gauntlet Tickets are no longer Account Bound and are now Soulbound on acquire.

    Why?????

  • I assume it’s so that you can’t defeat one boss with one profession, the next with a different profession?

  • QUOTE

I assume it's so that you can't defeat one boss with one profession, the next with a different profession?

And what would be wrong with doing that?

  • QUOTE

And what would be wrong with doing that?

Don’t get me wrong, I much prefer account-wide stuff. I love playing alts, and switching them for fun.

    But.

If you want to understand why they did that, that’s probably why. They want to make sure progress is character-bound, much like WvW traits or Fractals. I hate that, but some people prefer that… usually developers and elitists.

  • You get 5 tickets in mail for each character. I guess that could be easily exploitable by rerolling new ones.

So, that means I have to go out with the character that I might want to do that thing with, and the character that I want to go out with is stuck with all those tickets?

Trash bin will be filled soon…

  • QUOTE

You get 5 tickets in mail for each character. I guess that could be easily exploitable by rerolling new ones.

    That makes more sense.

Which means I should really have started with asking… how do you get these tickets (answered now) and what are they good for?

  • Concerning the Gauntlet tickets:

Now I have a lot of them stowed on the Elementalist which are all soulbound. If I should discover I want to fight a foe with another profession I have to go out and grind me some tickets at events. Yeah, more chores.

I don’t get the balloons. It looks like they do not reset, but still half of them are bugged. I came across three today that I have not visited yet, still the chest was open and I could not claim the tower for the achievement.

Also the torch bearer daily is broken, since I can’t repeat the runs in DR and finished all of them yesterday already.

From a technical POV, this update is a disaster.

  • Well, Crown Pavilion is basically just the whole Southsun farm all over again. Run between two bosses with a huge MF-boost on. Remember to switch the boost from time to time to get all the achievements done. I’m not sure if this is Anet’s vision of moving the MF away from gear… but seriously

Gauntlet has the potential to be great and/or annoying. I’m not far enough into it yet to decide which one it is. I guess they had to make the tickets soulbound to prevent players from just rerolling new chars, though I agree that having to farm them on a particular char could be seen as a chore. As far as I understood, the gauntlet progress is account-bound, the wiki even suggests switching to another build or character when stuck at a fight - obviously, it is impossible to perfectly balance each one for each class.

Haven't really done much with the balloons or torches yet, so I hope that stuff is fixed by the time I take a look...

Living story aside, thank you Anet for the wallet, it is truly fantastic... but why did you have to increase the aetherized weapon tickets to 5 per weapon while I still had 1 sitting in the bank, not having decided about which weapon skin to pick

  • The Torch Bearer event in the central garden worked for me. All the others did not trigger the daily task.

The following ballons are bugged for me:
    >> Gendaran Fields (both)
    >> Queensdale (north of the swamp>
    >> Snowden (in the NE corner)
    >> Wayfarer (south of Svanir Dome)

They did say it was only temporary and would be gone by the time the new update went live… But think positively: now you have more time to think about what skin you’ll get once you have 4 more tickets!

  • QUOTE

The second in Gendaran worked for me (the one in the snowy area) and there was an update that should have fixed the first.

All checked after the latest patch. Still showing open un-lootable chests, even if I have not been there before.

  • QUOTE

All checked after the latest patch. Still showing open un-lootable chests, even if I have not been there before.

Ah, but my bug at the first one in Gendarra was that the event didn’t progress thus I couldn’t go to the top of the platform… The second one had a working event and I was able to loot the chest. And that was before the update.

  • After a 12 hours work shift, I came home to download the latest patch, went to sleep for 4 hours and woke up to play. Managed to play for over 4 hours, and I must admit I kind of enjoy the current installment of Living World despite some reservations. I have been farming the bosses to get the 15 events achievement, even though my 3-year computer ( despite a new graphics card ) is barely able to keep up because of the zergs. I still have lots to do ( not sure I have time to do 16 achievements over 2 weeks), but the creative ideas this time restore some of my faith in ANET. Also, I really love the wallet; I did not realize I have that much gold across all my characters.

  • QUOTE

There are 15 achievements in the LS achievement tab. As you’ll need 16 for the meta, you’ll have to do at least one of the LS achievements that is hidden in the dailies (a new one each day, naturally ). And don’t forget to represent a house in the Pavilion, as that will give you 6 other achievements…

  • Oh noes I have to play new content a few times to get all the cosmetic rewards. This is so haaaaaard.

Sorry, I wasn’t replying to you… I was replying to some others that were complaining about having to farm this.

  • Finished the balloons achiev.
Only chest that was “already opened” (bugged) was the one in Queensdale, near the trading post.

  • I did some story stuff, and I found one bugged chest out of 4 (I forget which, but it was in human territories).

I also found that, by luck or by bug, story events spawned a lot around one of the two towers in the Wayfarer foothills. If that’s a persistent bug, it might be a good place to farm events.

  • The place where you kill endless mobs is pretty fun as long as you aren’t with a large group. I initially jumped over the wall immediately after finishing the story-mission-thing. I saw enemies and dove face first in to them. That was…. interesting. Somehow I made it alive all the way across the map over the course of like 30 minutes to where a commander was. That was awful, it was like doing the shatterer or something. When I went to sell I noticed a close by event, so I jumped in to it with the hopes a couple people would follow. They did and we formed an improptu 4-man group that took down two champs. Very fun.

The enemies respawn so quickly I think you could have like 8 of those tiny groups scattered around and still have room for a zerg.

  • QUOTE

That was awful, it was like doing the shatterer or something.

With one big difference. At most big boss events in the world, there’s only the big boss. All other foes can be ignored. In this instance, the other foes are mostly veterans and a lot of them as well (they do respawn quickly) So you will have to clean them up too.

So far I’ve only focussed on getting my achievements there (6 houses, 600 kills), and the zerg is the fastest way to get those…

  • i do think most players there zerg without concern of other players, i was fighting a veteran there while they were still there and before i knew it the group already left.
what happened to the “team” play, it’s now more a “everyone for them selves” game if this keeps up.

  • The zerg has been like that since launch. Especially at events like the Shatterer, if anyoe goes down people generally just let them die. It’s a little better in WvW where people need your living body.

Maybe it's not even a zerg thing, a couple days ago I fell off a jumping puzzle ON to someone and they just ran off. I had to ask them twice if they'd mind rezzing me.

  • QUOTE

Not in the zergs I've been in. People were generally very good at ressing people who dropped. (though, there are some spots you better not die, because you will not be ressed again unless there's the max amount of ressers around you... Especially those lavaspouts out-damage your ressing somehow... Even for defeated people)

But, a zerg is a mob. And a mob is its own entity. The mob will take care of itself, but will not take care of stragglers. Those are no longer part of the mob. If you're part of a zerg, you need to make sure you'll stay with the zerg yourself.

And Sorudo, fighting a veteran there doesn't say anything. I don't recall seeing anything less than a veteran there...

  • QUOTE

And Sorudo, fighting a veteran there doesn't say anything. I don't recall seeing anything less than a veteran there...

some are still normal, it’s just that because of all the veterans you see nothing else within zergs.

  • The only “normals” I’ve seen so far are the clockwork thingies… And I generally stand outside the zerg, hitting foes that come from the outside (especially as I wanted as many kills as possible for those house achievements…)

  • QUOTE

what happened to the "team" play, it's now more a "everyone for them selves" game if this keeps up.

Team play doesn't mean you have a team following you, unless you happen to have good leadership skills. The team play there was actually pretty good, leaders prioritize bosses and call them out in order, so you can get great loot quick.

if anyoe goes down people generally just let them die.

The waypoint is right next to the fighting area. It's faster to use those. However, people will rez you, not as quick as WvW.

I've seen normals too, and not just clockwork thingies, but the normals die very fast against a big mob.

a good team leader looks out for the team, running away and letting the rest rot is horrible leadership.

  • QUOTE

a good team leader looks out for the team, running away and letting the rest rot is horrible leadership.

    In this context, I disagree.

If leaders stayed behind for the weakest link, it would make for a really bad leader. Especially in a PUG where you have some guys who doesn't even pay attention to what the leader or group is doing. You can't keep wasting time on those guys, because if you do, everyone else suffers for it. Leaders are meant to lead people to common objectives, and move on when it's time to. Followers have to pay attention to this and react accordingly.

In WvW, a good leader might slow down a bit if a tail gets too long. But he shouldn't wait for people who break off to mine or run after single unimportant targets.

In smaller teams where you need good teamwork, like in dungeons, then yes... good leaders look out for everyone in the team. But that is not the context we're talking about.

  • mmm, if i ever get in your team i better walk away then, i am saver on my own then stay with you who let’s ppl rot even if (s)he just has no time to run after you.

also, why ever said i am a weak link, if anything i save a whole lot of ppl because of all the marks and wells supporting everything.
in this context, the leader is actually leaving the strongest link to rot.
anyone with a good sense of leadership knows that it’s a horrible idea to leave the support behind, it’s what causes the wipes.

  • QUOTE

the leader is actually leaving the strongest link to rot

    1) Last I heard, you complained Tixx’s was too hard. Have you completed the dungeons at least?

    2) I know necros are somewhat OP for PvE, but teams can do without necros easily. There is plenty of support in just about any team composition. Generally, if you have some guardians and elementalists, you can safely assume support will happen. My frontlining melee guardian for example has tons of team heals to share.

    3) You did say you only play PvE. There’s a lot to be learned from gameplay types you don’t even try. Like not wasting time on trash mobs when there are higher-priority targets available.

  • Alaris, Sorudo, please do not derail this thread from its topic.

    Gorani

  • I was explaining to Sorudo why zergs and commanders act as they do in Crown Pavilion.

    I believe this is on-topic.

last i heard you need a team to get in dungeons, they are pretty much friend list-only about now since i ones waited half an hour and no one wanted me in the team because “they already have guildies and friends”

    3) You did say you only play PvE. There's a lot to be learned from gameplay types you don't even try. Like not wasting time on trash mobs when there are higher-priority targets available.
oh you mean all the veterans who target me and the champion that keeps on knocking me down, they are my first priorities.

FYI, there is not trying and there is not bothering, i don't bother with the childish kids over at the PvP crowd boasting on how great they are while screaming noob every time they die.

  • QUOTE

last i heard you need a team to get in dungeons, they are pretty much friend list-only (...)

http://gw2lfg.com/ is an excellent site to find a good PUG for dungeons and fractals.

By priority target, I mean targeting in an order to maximize getting goals completed. For most people, that's loot or daily event quotas or whatnot. If you enjoy better beating up low-priority targets, I don't have an issue with it... go ahead and have fun. I'm just trying to help you understand why the group goes for different targets than you. It might help you predict when you'll be left alone, which in turn might help you ... not ... die. That was your initial complain, which I am trying to help you with. You're welcome.

Some foe with a KD ability isn't necessarily a high priority target. It's a more "in-your-face" target, but can easily be lower priority compared to foes with better payoffs, higher damage, higher team support, and/or lower armor rating.

  • After finishing the 30 balloon runs this morning, I am at 15 of 16 achievements. Quite enjoy this portion of the Living Story, despite my original reservations concerning the general direction ANET is taking this game. I had a bit of spare time last night and decided to make a trial run in the gauntlet. Unfortunately, I went in blind ( not knowing what I was supposed to do in the arena ) with no preparation at all and my toon lasted less than 20 seconds. Had a bit of difficulty with one of the torch runs, the one at Lyssa’s WP, even though I had figured out the best route right at the start but being clumsy at jumping it took me about 10 tries to get it done.

  • Sorry about the titles. This was kind of an oversight. I am nearly certain that the Gauntlet will return. Possibly as part of the activity rotation someday. Ideally we’ll extend it with more tiers of bosses, gambits, and achievements (and titles). I’m not sure if its possibly to retro-actively associate a new title with an old achievement but I will investigate. If so perhaps we can add some titles when the Gauntlet returns.

Put it in The Bane in Citadel and make it permanent. OMG... stop doing all that temporary stuff. (yeah, I am in a grumpy mood)

If that’s why you don’t PvP, you should reconsider. It was rampant in GW1, but in GW2 I really don’t see any trashtalking. Honestly, there is very little talking in PvP at all; your fingers are too busy with the buttons.

I find people very polite in WvW as well. Win or lose, there is usually a bow involved after a good fight. (I often have people whisper me and tell me “good fight” or something. How do you find out enemy names in WvW??)

  • I really wish some dates were slapped on the wiki because I have no effin clue when the Queen’s Gauntlet gets removed.

  • I know the event will last till the 3rd of September. But only after digging in the official forums

Yes, that's for the details for the update for the 20th. The website always updates a week before the game updates.

  • World vs. World XP and Point adjustments

We’re making it easier to earn World XP points for playing normally in World vs. World by increasing the WXP rate across the board! As an added bonus, we’re adjusting World vs. World Ability Points so that your total points are equal to your current rank. New characters will start off with one ability point, and all existing characters will receive one more!

I had hoped that they would reduce the insane amount of stuff you need to do for achievements in WvW. More points is fine and will allow new players to catch up. But with relative active gameplay in WvW you can gain a rank a day. Not sure that needs to be sped up right now. The problem still is the rewards for defensive play and the debuff we need for running in huge zergs, to encourage tactical gameplay with small teams and reasonable sized armies.

  • Characters that are one year old will receive a Mini Queen Jennah, a 24-hour Birthday Booster, and a Scroll of Experience.

Any one year old character below lvl 20 would be quite a slow leveler

Jest aside, I'm actually loving the experience scrolls. They partly solve the chore of going through all the initial hand-holding sub-lvl-30 on a new character.

But you can use that scroll on another character! (and I'm not sure how old Blaidd is exactly, but I know I started him last year, and he's lvl11 )

Agreed about the fixed minipet. I doubt the mini will be worth a lot over time and just stacking up spares is sorta meh. Personally I hope they will let you Mystic Forge spares to at least get a chance at other (rare?) minis.

I actually think it does make sense this way, because your character is likely max lvl for a while, has plenty of skillpoints (or means to get them), so because of your history with the game, you get an easier start for alts.

but skill points are always handy if you want to craft stuff in the MF. And once all your characters are lvl20, you won't have any use for that scroll anymore. And if it's a birthday gift, that means you first will get, and your second, etc... (and I only have 6 characters left below lvl20!)
