Anyone else have hotmail? I noticed that for some reason I now have 250 MB of storage. I didnt upgrade, or subscribe to it. It just happened. Did they just decide to up the storage for their free users? Are they no longer charging, or what? Just curious if anyone knew.

I've a hotmail account, but it's lain dormant for a good while, probably dead.

Perhaps they're trying to keep up with gmail's gig of space?

I use Gmail, I used hotmail some years ago, but the 2 MB limit was very annoying, so i got another email service, and now I use Gmail

I now have a 250 MB limit with hotmail. That is what this question is regarding...thats like a what.....125% increase?

Yea, the did indeed expand space. I would wager it's to compete with services like gmail and the thousands of other free email providers popping up. From 2 Mb - 250 Mb is far more than a 125% increase ... 12,500% increase I think? heh

Yep. 2*125=250, so id definatley need to throw in those other two zeros. Silly me

Actually... I think that a 125% increase would only be....

2 MB + 2 MB * 125% = 2 MB + 2.5 MB = 4.5 MB...

So, I think it actually IS a 12500% increase...

Really? Hmm, that's odd ... I do know that I've had my hotmail account for some ... two-three years? How long have you had yours? Perhaps they upgraded based on how long you've been using the service.

Yeah Ive had mine for almost a decade. I just made myself feel old. Curse you kids with your skateboards, and your soft drinks, and your good hips! :grrr:

Anyhow I recently was given a Gmail account as well. And for anyone who doesnt know what that is, its Google's version of e-mail. And I must say...it is the best e-mail service I've ever experienced. The system has a GB of storage (ahem 1000 MB!!!), and it utilizes Googles search technology to retrieve your e-mails in a split second, and it brings up any replies or e-mails associated with the one you request, giving you the full conversation. It's quite remarkable. You also never seemingly have to reload constantly. Oh Google...what will you do next? Today e-mail...tommorrow the woooooorld! Muhahahahahaha

I've had mine about 4 years. The only reason I could think is becuase here in New Zealand MSN has gone into a partnership with telecom's own ISP, Xtra, to create XtraMSN (very clever isn't it), and becuase of that we've been slowed down in the scheme of hotmail storage accounts. Or maybe its just US accounts that have been upgraded. You guys get all the benefits. :grrr:

Well to put this to rest, I just got an e-mail from MSN saying they were increasing it to 250. But the way they said it makes it seem that its in phases, and everyone should expect to have the 250 at the end of the month. I dont know if its permanent or why they are doing it though, as they neglected to mention that. Anyway. Someone was kinda enough to invite me to Gmail. So....Gmail rules...yes. Yes it does.

This is what Hotmail Staff wrote me:

Big News: Free Storage increase to 250MB
FREE 250MB of storage capacity is coming to your MSN Hotmail e-mail account. We are increasing your online storage to 250MB—that’s over 100 times the storage you have now.

That’s not all we are also increasing your attachment size from 1MB to 10MB! This means that you can send and receive more messages without worrying about available storage space. You’ll be able to see party photos, hear new songs and watch video clips that your friends e-mail to you.

You may already have your increased storage—look for this upgrade to your account, between now and the end of November.
